The Korea Convergence Society. The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of suicidal attitude, perception of life, and depression on adolescents' suicide(ideation, plans, attempts). Data on general characteristics, the Attitude Toward Suicide, the Perception about Life, and the Korean version of Center for Epidemiologic Studies Depression Scale-Revised were collected in 889 second-year middle school students in the I area. Two hundreds forty six students (27.67%) indicated they had suicide ideation, 85 had suicide plans (9.56%), and 46 had suicide attempts (5.17%). The proportion of female students was significantly higher than that of male students. The suicide indices (ideation, plans, attempts) increased as one shows lower body image satisfaction, higher depression, lower subjective mental and physical health, and lower leisure satisfaction. Predictors of suicide ideation included suicidal attitude (solution and permissiveness), depression, subjective mental health, and body image satisfaction. Predictors of the suicide plan were permissiveness and solution among suicidal attitude, and depression, subjective mental health, and those of suicide attempts were permissiveness and depression. Conclusion: This study suggests that much effort is required to decrease depression and improve perception of life and suicidal attitude in the suicide prevention education for adolescents.
Previous studies indicate that depression is strongly correlated with suicide, suggesting that individuals with higher levels of depression are more likely to commit suicide. Statistical data, however, show that depression is more prevalent among females whereas suicidal incidents are much higher among males. Using the 1st Seoul Welfare Panel Data, this study aims to examine the association between depression and suicidal attitudes and further examine whether there is gender and age difference in the relationship. Sample consists of 7,396 individuals aged 18 and over. Research questions were answered through the structural equation modeling(SEM) and multi-group SEM. The results showed that (1) depression is significantly associated with suicidal attitudes, replicating the previous findings, (2) the association was much higher among males than females, suggesting that depressed males are more vulnerable to suicide than depressed females, and (3) the gender difference was primarily caused by the group of women aged 65 and over. Based on these findings, implications for theory and practice were discussed.

This study examined the effect of past acceptance on suicidal ideation in older adults and verified double mediation effects of attitude to aging and depression. The responses of 329 aged 65 years or older who participate in senior welfare centers in Seoul and Gyeonggi-do were used. As an analysis method, the double mediation effect was confirmed through serial multiple mediation model verification using the SPSS PROCESS macro program. The followings are the results of the study. First, the past acceptance had a significant effect on the aging attitude, the aging attitude on the depression, and the depression on the suicidal ideation, but the direct effect of past acceptance on the suicidal ideation was not significant. Second, double mediation effects of attitude to aging and depression were significant in the relationship between past acceptance and suicidal ideation. Based on these results, practical and policy interventions to prevent suicide in old age were suggested.
This study attempts to analyze the effects of public advertising about suicide prevention and to investigate how the attitudes and perceptions of the message recipients differ according to the message framing type (positive vs. negative) and the appeal type (self-oriented/other-oriented). Positive messages, rather than negative messages, have a greater impact on people's respect for life and on attitudes to suicide. Respect for life attitudes were more positive among subjects who received an other-oriented message than among those who received a self-oriented message. Among the individual characteristics variables, the level of cognitive emotion regulation showed a significant impact on attitudes to respect for life and on attitudes to suicide.
Media reports of suicides has been found to increase suicide cases that were temporally and spacially proximal to the reports, but the psychological mechanisms, social learning, underlying the negative effects was not directly tested. The present study examined the cognitive processes of social learning that media reports of suicides, especially positive contents toward suicides, might change people's perception, memory, and attitudes toward suicides positively and subsequently increase subsequent suicide intentions and behaviors. Through an internet survey, 300 adults reported their perception, memory, and attitudes toward news reports of suicides, and rated whether the suicides were described positively or negatively in the reports. Finally they reported their suicide intentions and behaviors. The results revealed that people tended to remember more the contents of suicide reports suggested to increase copycat suicides. Also, people were found to have an ironic view to suicide reports of media that they acknowledged the dangers of suicides reports and approached the reports with curiosity. More importantly, the perception of the positive reward that suicides might achieved through suicides was related with positive attitudes toward suicides and behavioral intention to suicides. The present findings was discussed in the social learning understanding of copycat suicides and their implications for suicide-prevention strategies.

The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship between suicidal attitude and suicidal ideation of college students and also to provide the fundamental data in order to strengthen both the standard and the recommendation of media coverage in Korea. A total of 249 college students over the age of 18 years in B city and G do were enrolled for this study. The data were collected between June 9 and July 7 of 2014 and analyzed by using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficients, and multiple regression with SPSS 21.0. The mean score of a message of suicidal motivation reports 2 was $51.06{\pm}10.55$, which was the highest. The score of suicidal ideation was $10.41{\pm}12.88$. There were sign&ificant differences in suicidal thought with respect to school system, family income, pocket money, time of physical activity, smoking, and smart-phone usage in university students. It was shown that suicidal thoughts were significantly correlated with message of simple suicidal reports 1(r=.303, p<.001), message of suicidal motivation reports 2(r=.251, p<.001), and message of suicidal mourning man reports 3(r=.225, p<.001). As the suicidal attitude have a close association with reports of suicide, it is necessary that studies on a variety of factors influencing suicidal thoughts of students be repeated.

Purpose: The purpose of this study is to examine the relationship between attitude toward death among Korean hostess (room salon/bar) in Busan and their suicide-related factors. Methods: The questionnaires were administrated to 120 Korean hostess. The questionnaires consist of 7 major concepts: death as liberation, death as natural phenomenon, fear of death, avoidance of thought about death, fear for the impact of death on family, frequency of thought of death, their capacities to resist suicidal impulses. Results: Interestingly, satisfaction for hostess working in room salons with their monthly incomes was negatively correlated with frequency of thought of death and was positively related to their capacities to resist suicidal impulse. Moreover, in terms of the factors influencing 'their capacities to resist suicidal impulse', for hostess working in room salons, 'fear for the impact of death on family,' and 'satisfaction with their monthly income' were found to significantly influence 'their capacities to resist suicidal impulses'. However, for hostess working at bars, 'death as liberation' was found to be the only one factor showing significant effect on 'their capacities to resist suicidal impulses'. Conclusion: For hostess working in room salons, their perceived monetary reward seems to affect their attitudes toward death and suicide-related thoughts. Understanding a person's attitudes toward death can be another way to help people in a difficult situation to prevent them from carrying out the worst.

Data were analyzed by regression analysis with SPSS 18.0 version. Results showed significant relationships between socio-economic variables and main variables. Female showed higher depression and suicidal ideation than male. Higher performance group perceived parental attitude more positively, showed lower level of depression and suicidal ideation, and higher level of school adjustment than lower performance group. In addition, perceived parental attitude was a predictor of adolescent' mental health. School adjustment proved to have the mediating effect on depression and suicidal ideation overall. The specific interventions are associated with the increase of professionals and prevention program with parents, and the activation of school welfare.
