An Analysis of the Efficiency and Determinants of Coffee Franchises that Use DEA (DEA를 이용한 커피 프랜차이즈의 효율성 및 결정요인 분석)

  • This study aims to utilize DEA, analyze the efficiency of Korean coffee franchises, look into the factors that affect efficiency, and improve the efficiency of Korean coffee franchises. The main results of this study are as follows. First, according to CCR model standards, there are a total of 9 efficient coffee franchises and according to BCC model standards, there are a total of 12 efficient coffee franchises. A total of three of the inefficient DMUs were found to have a value of 1 for BCC, while the other 25 were found to be inefficient for both technology and scale. Second, of 28 franchises, 11 were analyzed to be decreasing return to scale and through future increased investments of optimum levels, business performance can be improved and efficiency can be enhanced. Analysis showed that 9 franchises appeared as CRS and it is most ideal to maintain the yield of future output elements at current levels and the work efficiency of 8 franchises in increasing returns to scale states expands as production scales increase according to specialization and role division and yield can relatively improve a lot. Third, the analysis of factors affecting the efficiency of franchises through the Tobit regression analysis showed that the number of franchises and operating periods had a positive (+) effect on efficiency. Based on this study, the efficiency of coffee franchises should be analyzed to establish strategies to maximize efficiency. An Evaluation of Service Quality Priorities between Air Cargo Service Providers and Customers (항공화물운송서비스 품질에 대한 서비스 이용자와 제공자간의 중요도 인식 차이에 관한 연구)

  • This paper analyzes the differences in the service quality priorities of air cargo service providers and customers. After having identified what constitutes the decisive factors with regards to air cargo service quslity, research was carried out to evaluate the differences in the service quality priorities of air cargo service providers and customers. Moreover, this paper analyzes these differences by separating air cargo service providers into Korean and international air cargo service providers. In order to attain the objectives of this research, the air cargo service sectors were divided into three general categories: supply capability(H/W), service accountability, and competitiveness of service fees and management capability(S/W). The researchers then placed 6 different criteria into each service category, for a total of 18. The evaluation of the service quality priorities of air cargo service providers and customers revealed very little difference between these two groups. With regards to the service criteria found in each service category, our research found marked differences between the service quality priorities of providers and customers in only three of the 18 criteria. However, we found marked differences in service quality priorities in 7 of the 18 criteria when the air cargo service providers were divided into Korean and international air cargo providers. While domestic air cargo service providers evaluated management's capability to handle cargo accidents and incidents as the most important priority, international air cargo service providers placed the highest priority on the cargo rate system. The results of this research imply that in order to properly evaluate the differences between the service quality priorities of air cargo service providers and customers, the air cargo service providers itself should be separated between the Korean air cargo service providers and the foreign providers because of their respective inherent perception on service quality.

An Analysis of the Efficiency of Korean railroad container freight station with Data Envelopment Analysis-Assurance Region (DEA-AR) (DEA-AR을 활용한 철도 컨테이너 화물역 효율성 분석)

  • Because the transport policy of Korea has overemphasized road, the physical distribution function of railroad has dwindled a great deal relatively. Recently, the railway has started to be embossed due to the rise of oil prices and environment problems, in addition the government is investing greatly in railroad. The railway corporation took a big step in its history in changing to a public corporation in 2005, and it has been making every possible endeavor to improve management. This research analyzed the trend and stability of the efficiency of railway container handling goods station in korea from 2002 to 2007 based on time of after being changed to a public corporation in 2005 in order to look into the trend of efficiency. The DEA- AR(Data Envelopment Analysis-Assurance Region) and the DEA-Window, widely used as the estimation techniques of the efficiency, were used. According to the results, the efficiency was a little enhanced in 2003 in comparison with 2002, after which it continuously decreased up to 2006 and again rose in 2007. The efficiency of the railway corporation was 0.6777, but after changing to a public corporation, it showed a trend of better efficiency after some transition period had passed.

Efficiency Analysis of Public Services Regarding Technical and Vocational Education and Training Using DEA : Focusing on Chungnam Province's Case (DEA를 활용한 직업능력개발 공공서비스의 효율성 분석 : 충남 지역맞춤형일자리창출지원사업을 중심으로)

  • In this research, in order to analyze the efficiency of vocational education and training public services, we analyzed 27 projects conducted in Chungcheongnamdo province in 2014 using DEA. Also we compared the efficiency of 2014 projects with 2013 projects, and verified 3 representative DMU's inefficiency to suggest how to improve the efficiency. The DEA examined the efficiency using CCR model, BCC model and SE(CCR / BCC). As a result of this analysis, the total project costs and the number of projects were increased in 2014 from 2013, but it turned out that the number of inefficient projects were increased and the overall efficiency is decreased. Therefore, in order to improve efficiency, we proposed to allocate labor costs and direct project costs appropriately. In the case of large-scale projects, it was confirmed that reducing the scale of the project is important to increase the overall efficiency. Based on this research, we are presenting a research model that analyzes the efficiency of vocational education and training, and expanding the research area of performance management into the area of various public services.

  • Owing to the complexity and modernization of weapon systems, the role of the defense industry in producing military companies has become increasingly important. In the past defense industries, price competitiveness is a key factor in product choice. On the other hand, product quality is becoming increasingly important compared to price competitiveness. In particular, improving the quality efficiency of small and medium defense suppliers is a necessary part of realizing completed weapon systems, and measures are required to evaluate the quality efficiency of small and medium defense suppliers objectively. This study measured the efficiency of quality using DEA, which is one of the decision methodologies. To use DEA, the number of employees (QA Team) and the number of improvement requirements (Through the activity of onsite quality-support team in aeronautical system center) were set as the input variables. In addition, the output variables were based on sales and the number of certification acquisitions (QMS). To analyze the quality efficiency of small and medium defense suppliers in the aeronautical field, both CCR and BCC models were analyzed, and the scale efficiency values were derived. Strategic development plans for small and medium defense suppliers can be guided using the research results.

A Study on Technology Forecasting of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) Using TFDEA (TFDEA를 이용한 무인항공기 기술예측에 관한 연구)

  • Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) are essential systems for Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) operations in current battlespace. And its importance will be getting extended because of complexity and uncertainty of battlespace. In this study, we forecast the advancement of 96 UAVs during the period of 32 years from 1982 to 2014 using TFDEA. TFDEA is a quantitative technology forecasting method which is characterized as non-parametric and non-statistical mathematical programming. Inman et al. (2006) showed that TFDEA is more accurate in forecasting compared with classical econometrics (e.g. regression). This study got 4.06% point of annual technological rate of change (RoC) for UAVs by applying TFDEA. And most UAVs in the period are inefficient according to the global SOA frontiers. That is because the countries which develop UAVs are in the middle class of technological level, so more than 60% of world UAVs markets are shared by North America and Europe which are advanced countries in terms of technological maturity level. This study could give some insights for UAVs development and its advancement. And also can be used for evaluating the adequacy of Required Operational Capability (ROC) of suggested future systems and managing the progress of Research and Development (R&D).

  • This paper analyzes the relative efficiency of Korea's logistics industry with the DEA-ANP model from 2003 to 2005. To measure the efficiency, this paper used the numbers of employees, fixed assets. total capital. and operating costs as input factors and sales amounts and net incomes as output factors. The average efficiency score of the entire logistics industry is 0.175, so most logistics companies in Korea should improve their current inefficiencies. The industry with the highest efficiency score is marine transportation. with an average three-year efficiency score of 0.3692. In terms of sales and high efficiency. most of the highest-ranked companies belong to the marine transportation industry, so marine transportation has the most influence on raising the efficiency score of Korea's logistics industry. To improve the inefficiency of inputs that exists overall in the logistics industry it is necessary to control excessive numbers of employees. To improve the amount of sales, it is necessary to make a policy of satisfying various logistics demands, continuous investments, and attracting foreign logistics demand: such things will help strengthen the international competitiveness of Korea's logistics industry.

A Study on the Measurement and Effect Factors of Productivity of the Korean Ocean Carriers (금융위기 이후 국적 외항선사의 생산성 측정과 영향요인에 관한 연구)

  • In this study, we first measured the Malmquist productivity index by DEA among the Korean ocean carriers. Second, it was intended to present measures to improve productivity by identifying the influence and discriminating power between productivity and the major financial ratios (profitability, financial stability, liquidity, efficiency and value-added productivity). Compared to 2017, there are 11 more shipping carriers with decline in productivity (MPI) than those with an increase in 2018. The increase in productivity is attributed to an increase in the Technology Change Index (TCI) affected by the external environment. There is strong significant correlation between the productivity (MPI) and the management efficiency (CRS). Additionally, the TECI (TECHI) index of the technological efficiency changes from internal factors of the shipping carrier is significantly higher than that of the efficient shipping carrier. This is because of the differences in scale efficiency. The ratio of charter cost/sales is also lower than that of the carriers with high productivity (0.17) and with low productivity (0.21). With 7% of the shipping carrier with MPI>1, only 1% of MPI <1 is found to have a significant impact on its productivity.

  • Despite the recovery of consumer expenditure and retailing in the Korean economy after 2001, the domestic apparel industry has been aggravated by negative growth in both productivity and production. The purpose of the stud? is to diagnose the develop competitive of the Korean apparel industry and derive implications for this after estimating the efficiency of the Korean apparel companies with Data Envelopment Analysis. Data Envelopment Analysis(DEA) is a methodology based in non-parametric analysis and linear programming. It was developed for measuring the relative efficiency of a set of firms that use inputs to produce outputs. Data used fer input and output variables in the analysis are drawn from financial statement recorded by the Korean Financial Supervisory Service. The initial input data comprise the number fo the employees, fixed assets, general management and selling expenses, and cost of sales. The initial outputs are the operating profit and the gross margin. To summary the results, the efficiencies of the Korean apparel companies has increased yearly in spite of being overabundance of investment in Labour and Capital. According to correlation between input and output variables, the Korean apparel industry has been revamping gradually from labor intensive industries to the capital. The companies need to reduce costs in the results from the number of employees, fixed asset and cost of sales to transform into an efficiently enterprise. The companies owning or obtaining a brand had bitter establish an outsourcing strategic in production, while OEM corporations are called far setting up a manufactory in domestic or abroad. Although the paper is derived some implications with production efficiencies, the relation between apparel companies and brand power, consumption level of consumer, and social trend is remained on a limitation to the study. The next research necessitates a topic with Fashion industry or examining the correlation between brand value, social propensity and profit margin.

  • According to IEEE 1662(2009), IPS is a power system where all prime movers produce electrical power that is shared among propulsion, mission, and ship service loads. Discriminating attributes of integrated power systems are flexibility of movers' arrangements, mechanical decoupling between prime movers and propulsors, an increased level of energy conversion and transmission redundancy, and flexibility of redistributing available electrical power for future electronic weapons. IPS could have various steps of power that can be produced at optimal load of movers. In this study, an evaluation method for optimal arrangement of movers was investigated when an IPS warship is projected. The two factors are utilized for the quantitative analysis which are the weight of system as the fighting power and the fuel consumption per year as the economic feasibility. And also the ways for arrangement of system were studied according to existence of small diesel generator. The evaluation method that decides the optimization level is based on the DEA(Data Envelopment Analysis)
