Recent portable devices are so versatile that they have multiple communication channels and play several multimedia formats. Especially, many services are under development for users who connect Internet or nearby devices via WWAN (Wireless Wide Area Network) and/or WLAN (Wireless LAN). In case of paying the telecommunication cost proportional to the amount of data downloaded, it is necessary to reduce the cost by constructing a special ad hoc network in which each participating peer downloads a specific portion of the want-to-be-shared content over the payable WWAN channel and exchanges the remaining portion with other peers using the cost-free WLAN channel. If all peers participate in forwarding packets, some transmissions are redundant which results in the unnecessary consumption of bandwidth as well as the delayed content distribution time. In order to reduce the redundant transmission, this paper proposes both the excluding method which discourages some peers not to forward redundant packets, and the minimum cover set method in which only the minimum number of peers are in charge of forwarding packets. These two methods obviate redundant packet forwarding, and result in reduction of content distribution time by up to around 29%.
In this study, the implementation of science classes by pre-service elementary teachers were explored to foster the digital literacy of elementary students. To this end, interviews were conducted with four university students in their 4th year of study at 'G' Education University in Gwangju, also their teaching plans and class implementation videos were analyzed. Interview questions were divided into the science class planning stage, the science class implementation stage, and the post-science class implementation stage, and the interview contents were transcribed and categorized after recording. The results of the study are as follows. First, in the science class planning stage, pre-service elementary teachers considered the degree of elementary students' familiarity when choosing digital teaching and learning tools to foster digital literacy. While writing the teaching plan, it was difficult to set standards related to fostering digital literacy. Second, while pre-service elementary teachers had positive experiences such as improving students' participation in classes and increasing student-specific guidance through real-time data sharing, class time was exceeded due to poor use of digital teaching and learning tools. Third, after teaching their science classes, pre-service teachers presented reflections and requirements for the class. Based on these results, the necessity of developing digital literacy for pre-service elementary teachers and the need to improve the curriculum of education university were proposed.
This article presents a one and half-year process of Lesson Study conducted at a K-8 school in an urban district in the eastern U.S. Lesson Study, a Japanese form of professional development that centers on collaborative study of live classroom lessons, has spread rapidly in the U.S. since 1999 and has been argued as a promising alternative model for teacher-led school reform through professional development. The Lesson Study group described here was composed of five teachers, one administrator, and one instructional improvement coordinator belonging to the participant school and two instructional super-intendants from the school district. Data was collected from October 2007 to February 2009 and a qualitative case study method was employed for this study. Drawing a case of Lesson Study, this article intended to show how Lesson Study group members participated in planning, teaching, observing, discussing, and improving lessons collaboratively for student learning by enhancing teacher professional competence so that find directions for future implementation in Korea. This article investigates (1) process of Lesson Study, (2) issues Lesson Study group members mainly dealt with, and (3) changes have taken place in Lesson Study as it is conducted over time. (4) Finally, this article concludes with challenges to adopting Lesson Study successfully in Korea.
Objective : The typical decline in function due to aging includes limitations in vision, hearing, cognitive function, and activities of daily living. Therefore, this study evaluated the mediating effect of cognitive function on the relationship between vision and hearing and activities of daily living. Methods : The participants in this study were 36,767 persons from the long-term care database on older adults provided by the National Health Insurance Sharing Service. The extracted variables were: (i) independent variables: visual and hearing; (ii) dependent variables: basic and instrumental daily living activities; and (iii) mediator variables: cognitive function. Regression analysis was performed evaluate the mediating effects of the extracted variables. Results : Cognitive function showed a mediating effect of 30% on the relationship between vision and basic daily life activities and 42% in the relationship with instrumental daily life activities. The mediating effect was 50% in the relationship between hearing and basic activities of daily living, and 53% in the relationship with instrumental activities of daily living. Conclusion : Prevention programs for functional decline due to aging are in progress in Korea. Based on the results of this study, establishing a prevention program would help promote successful aging.

In recent decades, research became more data-intensive in the fast-paced information environment. Researchers are facing new challenges in managing their research data due to the increasing volume of data-driven research and the policies of major funding agencies. Information professionals have begun to offer various data support services such as training, instruction, data curation, data management planning and data visualization. However, the emerging field of data librarians, including specific roles and competencies, has not been clearly established even though librarians are taking on new roles in data services. Therefore, there is a need to identify a set of competencies for data librarians in this growing field. The purpose of this study is to consider varying core competencies for data librarians. This exploratory study examines 95 online recruiting advertisements regarding data librarians posted between 2017 and 2021. This study finds core competencies for data librarians that include skills in technology, communication and interpersonal relationships, training/consulting, service, library management, metadata knowledge and knowledge of data curation. Specific core technology skills include knowledge of statistical software and computer programming. This study contributes to an understanding of core competencies for data librarians to help future information professionals prepare their competencies as data librarians and the instructors who develop and revise curriculum and course materials.
In order to prepare for the Anthropocene, this study aims to provide basic data on the direction of the Anthropocene liberal arts education by sharing experiences on anthropocene perception for undergraduates using the FGI analysis method. Interviews were conducted on 14 people who participated in liberal arts tutoring for about four months from October 2021 to January 2022, and as a result of confirming meaningful concepts according to qualitative analysis methods, a total of three topics, eight subcategories, and 16 sub-units were derived. "The advent of the new geological age" recognized that the anthrop tax was close to our lives, and it was time to predict the future through the meaning, seriousness, and development potential of the anthrop tax, and "Anthropocene Reorganization and Responsibility" emphasized the reorganization and responsibility of individuals, companies, and governments. The Direction of Human Tax Liberal Education proposed future basic liberal arts education, action practice for climate change, measures to overcome the anthropology using ICT technology, and various liberal arts education contents for a positive anthropology. In this regard, this study raised perception of the survival of mankind by in-depth exploration of the anthropocene in terms of liberal arts education, suggested the direction of future liberal arts education necessary in the anthropocene era, and suggested implications for the educational content and method.
This study analyzes the trend of domestic research related to science writing education. The subjects of analysis were 152 research papers related to science writing education in Korea from 2004 to 2021. The analysis criteria were set as the research problem, research subject, research method and research application etc. Result of the analysis shows a steady increase until 2014, but decreased afterwards. In the result of the research problems, it was found that most studies were about finding out the effects of scientific writing activities. The research subjects were mostly elementary, middle, and high school students. Qualitative research occupied a large proportion in the results of the research method analysis, and there were many mixed studies that combined quantitative and qualitative research. As for the research application method, the most applied research in regular classes. As a result of analyzing the effect of application, most of the studies were on science concepts, attitudes towards science, thinking skills, and creative problem-solving skills. Writing education such as experimental and observational writing in science classes has been steadily conducted since before the introduction of the 2007 revised curriculum. In particular, the importance of scientific writing as a text-based education is being emphasized from the 2007 revised curriculum to the 2022 revised curriculum overview. Writing is an important learning strategy in science education for students to generate, share, explain, and expand their ideas. Therefore, examining domestic research trends related to science writing education can provide important basic data for setting the future direction of science writing education.

The rapid development of the Chinese version of Twitter, the groom Weibo has become an important communication means for Chinese SNS users to obtain and share information. As a result, in China, the phenomenon of the power shift has emerged from the traditional opinion leaders to SNS opinion leasers. The relationship analysis of demographic variables of the Chinese SNS users and their Information on the relationship between keywords was made by utilizing the centrality analysis using Social Network Program NetMiner. China's SNS opinion leaders have general interest in daily activities with their families or friends rather than in social issues. And in case of SNS opinion leaders of high betweenness centrality, it was analyzed that general users was a key mediator role that organically out lead to the adjacent information. These properties are not independent of demographic variables, such as professional, therefore, the demographic characteristics of SNS opinion leaders showed a significant effect on the parameters of betweenness centrality. This study analyzed the characteristics of SNS users, especially opinion leaders in China by looking at the aspects of Chinese social phenomenon in terms of information. Through this study, we expect to provide basic information about the social characteristics of China through collective communication.
The realization of carbon neutrality requires cooperation from various stakeholders and the utilization of a governance system. The criteria for participating members are crucial for the successful operation of governance, and it is especially necessary for experts who can provide scientific advice for policy implementation to share a framework for successful consensus. In this study, governance model theory and model structure, governance common success factors by case, and the application of governance cases in the climate and environmental sector of Seoul, were investigated and analyzed to derive common success factors in order to present the activity standards of the science and technology experts participating in governance. The study of the model theory suggested that the model structure is commonly composed of a basic condition-process-result structure, and it was confirmed that common success factors can be derived at the process stage which is the activity period of members. Through the case study of common success factors, overlapping factors were found to be reliability, accountability, transparency, networks, and related factors. The validity of the common success factors was verified using the analysis results of satisfaction survey data from Seoul Governance Committee participants. The results confirmed that reliability was the most valuable factor followed by networks, transparency, and responsibility, and it was found that the related factors were appropriately derived. The findings of this study are expected to be used as an activity factor for science and technology experts to increase the acceptability and effectiveness of carbon-neutral policies in the future.
Rather than an abstract discourse, the purpose of this study is to outline the core concepts in the 2015 revised curriculum as a concrete teaching and learning method in the school context. We interviewed eight secondary science teachers and reported their perceptions and perspectives on core concepts using a backward design model based on the cyclical process of the platform, deliberation, and design for developing teaching and learning materials to understand core concepts. The participants perceived these core concepts differently, such as big ideas corresponding to the ultimate principle, minimum science concepts required for daily life, and primary and significant key concepts. In addition, this affects the association of teaching and learning. When core concepts are understood as transferable and expandable big ideas, there is a tendency to focus on the relationship between concepts and design project learning in a specific direction. However, if core concepts are identified as minimum science concepts at the level of science literacy, that can be recalled within the context of life, there is a tendency to emphasize on activities that make a meaningful difference to the lives of students with focus on case studies that are relevant to everyday life. Once core concepts are identified as key scientific content elements, such as basic or significant concepts, teachers recognize that it is essential to emphasize concept changes by correcting misconceptions, acquiring accurate scientific knowledge, and developing problem-solving items through paper-and-pencil evaluation. As the 2015 revised curriculum is finalized and the 2022 revised curriculum is scheduled for release, effective policy support is required to ensure that the curriculum is revised, which emphasizes the purpose of big ideas by naming core concepts as core ideas, to be stably implemented in schools.
