Physical Separation and Leaching for Recovery of Valuable Metals from Waste Printer PCBs (폐프린터 기판으로부터 유가금속회수를 위한 물리적 처리 및 침출)

  • 폐 프린터의 발생량이 해마다 증가하고 있으며 이에 대한 재활용이 필요하다. 폐 프린터의 재활용에 있어서 다른 구성성분보다 기판의 처리가 문제가 된다. 본 연구는 폐 프린터의 기판을 재활용하는 데에 습식처리공정을 적용하기 위하여 먼저 전처리로 분쇄와 분리를 실시하였다. 기판을 1cm 이하로 분쇄한 다음 자력선별기를 이용하여 자성물질을 제거하고 비자성물질을 대상으로 4, 12, 40 mesh의 체를 이용하여 시료를 분리하였다. 전처리를 통하여 금속성분 특히 구리가 다량 함유된 12/40# 에 속한 시료를 대상으로 산에 의한 침출실험을 실시하였다. 실험 변수로는 산의 종류, 산 농도, 반응 온도, pulp density 등이었다.

Synthesis of Si-SiC-CuO-C Composite from Silicon Sludge as an Anode of Lithium Battery (실리콘 슬러지로부터 리튬전지(電池) 음극용(陰極用) Si-SiC-CuO-C 복합물의 합성(合成))

  • As a recycling of Si sludge from Si wafer process, a Si-SiC-CuO-C composite material was synthesized and investigated as an anode material for lithium batteries. The Si sludge consisted of Si, SiC, machine oil, and metallic impurities. The oil and metal impurities was removed by organic washing, magnetic separation, and acid washing. The Si-SiC-CuO-C composite from the recovered Si-SiC mixture was prepared by high-energy mechanical milling. According to the electrochemical tests such as charge-discharge capacity and cycling behavior, it showed the improved cycle performance. The SiC and CuO-related phases were presumed to restrain the volume expansion of the anode and Fe, however, should be removed below 10 ppm prior to synthesis of the composite because it caused the capacity loss of the active material itself.

A Refining of Natural Diatomite and Synthesis of SiC Powder (규조토 정제 및 탄화규소 분말합성)

  • For high value-added applications of natural blue diatomite, the physical refining process and synthesis of SiC from refined diatomite were investigated. Approximately 30 percent Fe ($Fe_2O_3$) in raw blue diatomite was removed by a particle sieve separation process; the Fe composition for 325 mesh down powder was approximately 2 percent. Although a wet and/or dry magnetic separation process had some influence on the separation and/or refining of Fe composition, the Fe composition in the non-magnetic by-product was approximately 2 percent. Water leaching separation was effective in removing the Fe composition; approximately 40 percent of the Fe in raw blue diatomite was removed. The synthesis of ${\beta}$-SiC by a carbothermal reduction of the $SiO_2$ in the refined diatomite using carbon (graphite, carbon black), the effects of an acid-treatment on removing the Fe, and the specific surface area for the synthesized powder were also investigated. The impurities were mostly eliminated and the specific surface area was increased to $52.5m^2/g$.

Sulfuric Acid Leaching of Zinc and Manganese from Spent Zinc-Carbon Battery (황산에 의한 폐망간전지로부터 아연과 망간의 침출)

  • Characteristics on the sulfuric acid leaching of zinc and manganese from the spent zinc-carbon battery powders obtained by cushing and magnetic separation, were investigated with the variation of sulfuric acid concentration, reaction temperature, stir-ring speed and solid/liquid ratio. The sample powders were composed of Zn metal, ZnO, $MnO_2$ and $Mn_2$$O_3$. and it was found that the selective leaching of zinc was difficult in this system. At the condition of S/L ratio 1:10, IM H$_2$$SO_4$, $60^{\circ}C$ and 200 rpm, leaching rate of Zn and Mn are 92% and 35% respectively. The concentration of Zn and Mn in the leaching solution are 19.5 g/l, 7.8 g/l and pH of that solution is 0.75. It was confirmed at reducing agent should be added to increase e leaching rate of manganese with sulfuric acid.

  • The objective of this study is to investigate the possibility of beneficiation of low grade iron ore. Iron ore A might be upgraded by the mineral liberation effect, while iron ore B was expected to be difficult to upgrade. However, the Fe contents of iron ore B were increased from 68% to 81% by the heat treatment process. Iron ore A was found to possibly enrich the Fe components through the physical separation process, such as magnetic separation, floatation and gravity concentration. In the case of iron ore B, it was possible to concentrate the Fe components through the heat treatment process.

  • Purification of silica mineral has been investigated by acid leaching of pulverized silica. A series of studies has been carried out on the effect of leaching silica powder as a function of the leaching time at the constant temperature of $80^{\circ}C$ in oxalic acid, aqua regia, and two mixed acids of HF/HCl, $HF/HNO_3$. The impurities of silica and leachantes were measured by neutron activation analysis (NAA), inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectrometry (ICP-AES), atomic absorption spectrometry, x-ray fluorescence (XRF) method and wet analysis (WA). Certain metals, such as sodium, calcium, iron, aluminium and titanium, have been found in concentrations of hundreds or even thousands of mg/kg. Comparison of purification processes of silica and analytical methods of impurities in the silica was conducted in this study.

The Exploration Methodology of Seafloor Massive Sulfide Deposit by Use of Marine Geophysical Investigation (해양 지구물리 탐사를 이용한 해저열수광상 부존지역 탐지 방법)

  • Lau basin of the south Pacific, as an active back arc basin, is promising area bearing seafloor massive hydrothermal deposit that is located in a subduction zone between the Pacific ocean plate and Indo-Australian continental plate. We performed multi-beam bathymetry survey in the Lau basin using EM120, to find out high hydrothermal activity Bone. Fonualei Rift and Spreading Center (FRSC) and Mangatolou Triple Junction (MTJ) area were selected for precise site survey through seafloor morphology investigation. The result of surface and deep-tow magnetometer survey showed that Central Anomaly Magnetization High (CAMH) recorded which is associated with active ridge in FRSC-2 and revealed very low magnetic anomalies that can be connected to past or present high hydrothermal activity in MTJ-1 seamount area. Moreover, the physical and chemical tracers of hydrothermal vent flume, i.e., transmission, hydrogen ion concentration (pH), adenosine triphosphate (ATP), methane (CH4) by use of CTD system, showed significant anomalies in those areas. From positive vent flume results, we could conclude that these areas were or are experiencing very active volcanic activities. The acquired chimney and hydrothermal altered bed rock samples gave us confidence of the existence of massive hydrothermal deposit. Even though not to use visual exploration equipment such as ROV, DTSSS, etc., traditional marine geophysical investigation approach might be a truly cost-effective tool for exploring seafloor hydrothermal massive deposit.

A Study on the Purification Chara00cteristics of Bentonite with Dry-Based Process (벤토나이트광의 건식 정제 특성 연구)

  • Dry-based processes such as crushing, milling, sieving, magnetic and gravity separation were employed in order to investigate the purification characteristics of bentonite. The CECs of Gampo 13 and 35 bentonites were estimated at 88.3 and 93.3 meq/100 g and the samples contained quartz and feldspar as impurity minerals. According to the physical properties of constituent minerals of bentonite, the purification techniques were adopted to enhance the grade of montmorillonite High grade of montmorillonite could be obtained by the combination of each process. Consequently, the recovery of final products of Gampo 13 and 35 bentonite were 68.6 and 49.5%, and the CECs of them were 96.9 and 109.6 meq/100 g, respectively.

  • In the present paper, a current technical progress for recycling of used steel can is described. The developed technology was a kind of pre-treatment through an automatic equipment system to increase recycling and melting efficiency of used steel co. The process consisted of several unit processes such as breaking of steel can bale, removing dust, separation of aluminum can, delacquering, and compressing to bale. Also, aluminum powders were recovered as a by-product at the delacquering step. The process was carried out automatically through by use of the developed equipment system. The automatic system could be very available in mass treatment of used steel can.

A Study on the Resource Recovery of Fe-Clinker generated in the Recycling Process of Electric Arc Furnace Dust (전기로 제강분진의 재활용과정에서 발생되는 Fe-Clinker의 자원화에 관한 연구)

  • The amount of dust generated during the dissolution of scrap in an electric arc furnace is approximately 1.5% of the scrap metal input, and it is primarily collected in a bag filter. Electric arc furnace dust primarily consists of zinc and ion. The processing of zinc starts with its conversion into pellet form by the addition of a carbon-based reducing agent(coke, anthracite) and limestone (C/S control). These pellets then undergo reduction, volatilization, and re-oxidation in rotary kiln or RHF reactor to recover crude zinc oxide (60%w/w). Next, iron is discharged from the electric arc furnace dust as a solid called Fe clinker (secondary by-product of the Fe-base). Several methods are then used to treat the Fe clinker, which vary depending on the country, including landfilling and recycling (e.g., subbase course material, aggregate for concrete, Fe-source for cement manufacturing). However, landfilling has several drawbacks, including environmental pollution due to leaching, high landfill costs, and wastage of iron resources. To improve Fe recovery in the clinker, we pulverized it into optimal -sized particles and employed specific gravity and magnetic force selection methods to isolate this metal. A carbon-based reducing agent and a binding material were added to the separated coarse powder (>10㎛) to prepare briquette clinker. A small amount (1-3%w/w) of the briquette clinker was charged with the scrap in an electric arc furnace to evaluate its feasibility as an additives (carbonaceous material, heat-generating material, and Fe source).
