Counter shaft transmission is a popular automatic transmission power train in construction vehicles such as wheel loader and forklift. The gear train layout of counter shaft transmission is a very basic and important development stage because it affects the most of components design including hydraulic system and shift control algorithm, etc. This paper presents a design methodology for the gear train layout from the analysis of power flow path and clutch hook-up of the existing counter shaft transmission that is adopted in commercialized construction vehicles. Also, independent constraints for the meshed gear ratios are derived in order to realize forward 4-speed and reverse 3-speed gear ratio. The layout design principle proposed here was applied to the new original counter shaft transmission that is underdevelopment.
An automatic transmission, which consists of several decks of planetary gear sets, provides multiple speed and torque ratios by actuating brakes and clutches (mechanical friction components) for connecting central members of the planetary gear sets. The gear set consists of the sun gear, the ring gear, and the carrier supporting multiple planet gears with pin shafts. In designing a new automatic transmission, there are many steps to design and analyze: gears, brakes and clutches, shafts, and other mechanical components. Among them, selecting thrust bearings that not only allow the relative rotation of the central members and other mechanical components but also support axial forces coming from them is important; doing so yields superior driving performance and better fuel efficiency. In selecting thrust bearings, the magnitude of axial forces on them is a critical factor that affects their bearing size and performance; its results are systematically related to the direction of the helical angle of each planetary gear set (a geometric design profile). This research presents the effects of the helical angle direction on the axial forces acting on thrust bearings in an automatic transmission consisting of planetary gear sets. A model transmission was built by analyzing kinematics and power flows and by designing planetary gear sets. The results of the axial forces on thrust bearings were analyzed for all combinations of helix angle directions of the planetary gear sets.
Shift quality of an automatic transmission in a vehicle is mainly affected by transient pressures in the hydraulic system during shifting. In this study, dynamic modelings of the hydraulic system and the power train of an automatic transmission are made systematically by a bond-graph method. The dynamic characteristics of the line pressures and clutch/brake pressures during shiftings are investigated by simulations and verified by experiments. The effects of clutch/brake pressures on the shift torque are also investigated through driving simulation.
In this study, as a strategy to improve shift characteristics, the authors developed a new style pressure modulator which can reduce shock torque during power shift by modulating the pattern of pressure increase in the cylinder for actuating the clutch. The remarkable merits of this new pressure modulator lie in its structural simplicity and durability, because the modulator is only composed of a poppet type valve and a few orifices. The usefulness of the new pressure modulator is confirmed by experiments and numerical analyses on a clutch control hydraulic system simplified for easy test. Also, the excellency of the transmission with the new pressure modulator is verified by experiments on a test bench for simulating the running power train of an excavator.
dynamic modelling method is applied to the driving simulation which has the calculable model of engine, transmission, vehicle. And driving pattern is used for database by actual tests and analyzed in neural network system. The simulation is compared to real test results and structures to the tracked vehicle powertrain.
The electric vehicle industry is rapidly developing because of enforced environmental regulations, and several studies have been conducted on the multispeed transmission to improve the fuel efficiency of electric vehicles. Among these studies, research on the power density improvement of electric vehicle transmission is critical. Thus, the optimal design of the gear train is necessary to enhance transmission efficiency. In this study, an optimal design methodology for the lightweight two-speed transmission of electric vehicles is proposed. Because a multispeed transmission has many operating conditions and equality and inequality constraints, a new gear design method that combines analytical and iterative methods is applied without using complex optimization algorithms. Sets of possible design variables are generated considering the operating conditions and various design variables. The modules and face width ratios of each stage gear that satisfy the corresponding operating conditions are analytically calculated. The volume of the gear train is calculated, evaluated, and arranged using these values to determine the optimal solution for minimizing the volume, and the proposed methodology is applied to the actual model to verify its effectiveness. The design of a two-speed transmission with multiple operating conditions and constraints without complicated optimization algorithms can be optimized.
