The performance of the Electric Vehicle and Hybrid Electric Vehicle depends on that of the battery pack composed of series connected batteries. And thermal property is one of the main factors which decide the performance of the battery pack. So heat generation rate from the battery under the various driving mode must be measured as precise as possible because thermal characteristics of the battery affect the driving performance and battery pack's life cycle. Besides, to design and develop the battery thermal management system for the EV and HEV, the measurements of the thermal properties of the batteries are needed. However, the established calorimeter is not adequate to test an EV's battery because its cavity is too small to accommodate the EV's battery. Therefore we developed the calorimeter to test the thermal property of the EV's battery. Its cavity size is 120mm long, 75mm wide and 200mm high. The calorimeter is calibrated by the dummy cell which generates the heat rate from zero to 200W. The measuring accuracy of the calorimeter is within $2\%$ and its voltage stability is 2.5mV in the constant temperature bath.
The earth has been warming due to $CO_2$ gas emissions from fossil fuel cars and a ship. So the hydrogen fuel cell vehicle(FCV) using hydrogen as a fossil fuel alternative energy is in the spotlight. Hyundai Motor Company of Korea and a car companies of the US, Japan, Germany is developing a FCV a competitive. Obtained hydrogen as a by-product of the coke plant, oil refineries, chemical plants of steel mill, coal is reacted with steam at high temperatures, methane gas, manufacture of high purity hydrogen Methane Steam Reforming and hydrogen detachable reforming method using the Pressure Swing Adsorption or Membrane Reforming technical or decomposition of water to produce electricity. Hydrogen is the electronic industry, metal and chemical industries, which are used as rocket fuel, etc. are used in factories, hospitals, home of the fuel Ene.Farm system or FCV. And a method of storing hydrogen is to store liquid hydrogen and a method for compressing normal hydrogen to the hydrogen container, by storing the latest hydride or Organic chemical hydride method is used to carry the hydrogen station. Korea is currently 13 hydrogen stations in place and in operation, plans to install a further 43 places.
The paper presents the rotordynamic performance measurements and model predictions of a fuel cell electric vehicle (FCEV) air compressor supported on gas foil bearings (GFBs). The rotor has an impeller on one end and a thrust runner on the other end. The front (impeller side) and rear (thrust side) gas foil journal bearings (GFJBs) are located between the impeller and thrust runner to support the radial loads, and a pair of gas foil thrust bearings are located on both sides of the thrust runner to support the axial loads. The test GFJBs have a partial arc shim foil installed between the top foil and bump strip layers to enhance hydrodynamic pressure generation. During the rotordynamic performance tests, two sets of orthogonally installed eddy-current displacement sensors measure the rotor radial motions at the rotor impeller and thrust ends. A series of speed-up and coast-down tests to 100k rpm demonstrates the dominant synchronous (1X) rotor responses to imbalance masses without noticeable subsynchronous motions, which indicates a rotordynamically stable rotor-GFB system. Finite element analysis of the rotor determines the rotor free-free (bending) natural modes and frequencies well beyond the maximum rotating frequency. The predicted damped natural frequencies and damping ratios of the rotor-GFB system reveal rotordynamic stability over the speeds of interest. The imbalance response predictions show that the predicted critical speeds and rotor amplitudes strongly agree with the test measurements, thus validating the developed rotordynamic model.

PHEV(Plug in Hybrid Electric Vehicle) and BEV(Battery Electric Vehicle) equip high voltage batteries to drive motor and vehicle electric system. Those vehicle require OBC(On-Board Charger) for charging batteries and LDC(Low DC/DC Converter) for converting from high voltage to low voltage. Since the charger and the converter actually separate each other in electrical vehicles, there is a margin to reduce the vehicle weight and area of installation by integration two systems. This paper studies a 1.5kW LDC converter that can be integrated into an OBC using an isolated current-fed converter by simplifying the design of LDC transformers. The proposed LDC can control the final output voltage of the LDC by using a fixed arbitrary output voltage of the bidirectional buck-boost converter, so that Compared to the existing OBC-LDC integrated system, it has the advantage of simplifying the transformer design considering the battery voltage range, converter duty ratio and OBC output turn ratio. Prototype of the proposed LDC was made to confirm normal operation at 200V ~ 400V input voltage and maximum efficiency of 91.885% was achieved at rated load condition. In addition, the OBC-LDC integrated system achieved a volume of about 6.51L and reduced the space by 15.6% compared to the existing independent system.
Manufactured thermoplastic composite materials to replace the metal materials used as battery housing materials for electric vehicles with lightweight materials. As the matrix material, nylon 6 which is a polymer material was used. Boron Nitrate(BN), which has high thermal conductivity, was used to provide heat dissipation performance. The heat dissipation characteristics of the thermally conductive polymer composite material according to the BN content and particle size were analyzed. The thermal conductivity value increased as the filler content increased, and composite materials particle size of 60 to 70㎛ and BN content of 50%, the thermal conductivity was 1.4 W/mK. The larger the particle size, the wider the inter-particle interface contact surface, which means that a thermal path was formed. wider the interfacial contact surface between the particles, and the thermal path was formed. A battery housing was manufactured using the manufactured thermally conductive polymer composite material, and the temperature change during charging and discharging of the cell was observed, and the possibility as a substitute material for the battery housing was confirmed.
In this paper, an estimation algorithm for state of charge (SOC) was applied using an equivalent circuit model (ECM) and an Extended Kalman Filter (EKF) to improve the estimation accuracy of the battery system states. In particular, an observer was designed to estimate SOC along with the aged capacity. In the case of the fresh battery, when SOC was estimated by Kalman Filter (KF), the mean absolute percentage error (MAPE) was 0.27% which was smaller than MAPE of 1.43% when the SOC was calculated by the model without the observer. In the driving mode of the vehicle, the general KF or EKF algorithm cannot be used to estimate both SOC and capacity. Considering that the battery aging does not occur in a short period of time, a strategy of periodically estimating the battery capacity during charging was proposed. In the charging mode, since the current is fixed at some intervals, a strategy for estimating the capacity along with the SOC in this situation was suggested. When the current was fixed, MAPE of SOC estimation was 0.54%, and the MAPE of capacity estimation was 2.24%. Since the current is fixed when charging, it is feasible to estimate the battery capacity and SOC simultaneously using the general EKF. This method can be used to periodically perform battery capacity correction when charging the battery. When driving, the SOC can be estimated using EKF with the corrected capacity.

Throughout all industries, eco-friendliness is being promoted worldwide with focus on suppressing the environmental impact. With recent international environment policies and regulations supported by government, the electric vehicles demand is expected to increase rapidly. Battery system itself perform an essential role in EVs technology that is arranged in cells, modules, and packs, and each of them are connected mechanically and electrically. A multifaceted approach is necessary for battery pack bonding technologies. In this paper, pros and cons of applicable bonding technologies, such as resistance welding, laser and ultrasonic bonding used in constructing electric vehicle battery packs were compared. Each bonding technique has different advantages and limitations. Therefore, several criteria must be considered when determining which bonding technology is suitable for a battery cell. In particular, the shape and production scale of battery cells are seen as important factors in selecting a bonding method. While dealing with the types and components of battery cells, package bonding technologies and general issues, we will review suitable bonding technologies and suggest future directions.

The spinel-type oxide (Nix, Mny, Co3-x-y)O4 (NMC) is widely utilized as a material for temperature sensors with a negative temperature coefficient (NTC), finding applications across various industries including electric vehicle battery management systems. Typically, NMC is manufactured using solid-state reaction methods employing powders of Ni, Mn, and Co compounds, with the densification process through sintering recognized as a crucial factor determining the electrical properties of the temperature sensor material. In this study, NMC pellets were synthesized via solid-state reaction and their crystallographic and microstructural characteristics were investigated. Also, the activation energy for densification behavior during the sintering process was determined. According to the analysis results, the room temperature resistance of the NMC pellets was measured at 10.03 Kohm, with the sensitivity parameter, B-value, recorded at 3601.8 K, indicating their potential applicability as temperature sensors across various industrial fields. Furthermore, the activation energy for densification was found to be 273.3 ± 0.4 kJ/mol, providing valuable insights into the thermodynamic aspects of the sintering process of the NMC.

Real-time target signal processing techniques for FMCW LiDAR are described in this paper. FMCW LiDAR is gaining attention as the next-generation LiDAR for self-driving cars because of its detection robustness even in adverse environmental conditions such as rain, snow and fog etc. in addition to its long range measurement capability. The hardware architecture which is required for high-speed data acquisition, data transfer, and parallel signal processing for frequency-domain signal processing is described in this article. Fourier transformation of the acquired time-domain signal is implemented on FPGA in real time. The paper also details the C-FAR algorithm for ensuring robust target detection from the transformed target spectrum. This paper elaborates on enhancing frequency measurement resolution from the target spectrum and converting them into range and velocity data. The 3D image was generated and displayed using the 2D scanner position and target distance data. Real-time target signal processing and high-resolution image acquisition capability of FMCW LiDAR by using the proposed parallel signal processing algorithms based on FPGA architecture are verified in this paper.
