The Role of Space-based Social Capital in Retailing Industrial Cluster: The case study of Dondaemun-gu Dapsimni Auto-parts shopping area (유통산업 집적지에서 장소기반 사회자본의 역할: 동대문구 답십리 자동차 부품상가를 사례로)

  • This research investigates that role of space-based social capital presented in Dapsimni auto-parts shopping area considering Korean auto-parts industry and the regional characteristics of retailing industrial cluster. For this, it went through the process with in-depth interview and surveys of the owner of Dapsimni, social capital of retailing industrial cluster studied using Lin(1999)'s social capital model by separating formation, accessibility and mobilization of it. The result is that auto-part sellers in Dapsimni make themselves space-based social capital, which provides the profit from certain area: strengthening auto-parts of transaction cost and information exchange among them, creating new market for selling auto-parts. This meant that main factor sustaining the characteristic of retailing industrial cluster despite gradually decline of its role.

An Empirical Study on the Factor Analysis of Dependence on Japan in the Korean General Machinery Industry : Focusing on the Manufacturing Companies of Components and Parts (일반기계산업의 대일 의존 유발요인 분석에 관한 실증 연구 : 부품생산업체 중심으로)

  • The machinery industry provides infrastructure to many manufacturing industries and it has strong influences on performance and quality of products. However, Korean economic growth has been constantly causing the korean general machinery industry to significantly depend on Japan. To solve this problem, many industrial policies have been tried. In this paper, we divide the value chain of general machinery industry into four steps; technology development step, manufacturing step, marketing step, and after-sales management step. We study the relationships between each of these steps and the awareness of dependency on Japan. For empirical analysis we surveyed 207 domestic companies in general machinery industry. The findings are that the three factors, technology development competency, marketing competency and after-sales management competency have significant relationships with dependence on Japan. Manufacturing competency is not a significant factor. As control variables, the type of manufacturers has effect on dependency on Japan. The company size, the kinds of products and technology levels of products don't have effects on the relationship between the four steps of the value chain and dependency on Japan. To overcome the trade imbalance with Japan in the general machinery industry, we recommend to develop technology development competency, marketing competency, and after-sale management competency. Also we need to adopt industry supporting policies, not depending on all three control variables of company sizes, the kinds of products and the technology levels of products, but depending on the type of manufacturers.

Changes in City Classification by Wholesale Activities in Korea (都賣業 販賣活動에 의한 韓國의 都市類型 變化)

  • Wholesaling is important industry that is remarkable by the function and characteristics of city. This paper aims at examing the recent changes in hierarchy of cities and city classifi-cation by wholesale activities in Korea. In order to grasp the stydy purpose, this paper is to analuze the changes of categories by wholesale industry, and to grasp the change in the city classification with city hierachy of wholesale sales in 1968, 1979, and 1991. The data were obtained from the statistics in the Census of Wholesale and Retail Trade published by the National Statistical Office, in 1969, 1981, and 1992. As the result of examination, the following finding were obtained: 1. Wholesaling has developed form that of production and consumption goods wholesale, especially 'Wholesaling of Farm Products, Foods and Beverages' to that of investment goods that is 'Wholesaling of Machinery and Equipment' and 'Wholesaling of Transport Equipment and Parts'. 2. Wholesaling has developed in the medium and small cities in 1970's, and in the larger cities in 1980's. And the concentration ratio of six larger cities were lower than another cities in terms of wholesale sales, especially Seoul and Pusan. 3. Recently with income increment and a purchasing power, city classification was changed by the increasing number of wholesale establi-shments of 'Automotive Parts and Tyres' in 1970's and of 'Office, Computing and Accounting Machines and Motor Vehicles' in 1980's.

The transition & forecast of motor cycle production (이륜차의 생산추이와 전망)

  • 한국에 이륜차가 소개된 것은 일차 경제개발 5개년계획이 시작된 1962년부터이며 초기 기아산 업에서 차체일부를 제외한 KD부품을 일본 본전기연으로부터 수입하여 조립 생산하였으며, 1975년 6월까지 약 14년간 총 93,000대를 생산한 후 1975년 7월부터 기아기연이 별도 법인으로 설립되면서부터 본격적으로 생산이 증가하게 되었고 1979년까지 독점 공급하게 되어 당시 년산 10만대를 돌파하게 되었다. 이때부터 국내 여러 업체가 출현하여 경합시대에 들어갔다. 즉, 1979년 한국 제네랄모페드(GMK)에서 이태리 Minarelli로부터 엔진 23,700대를 도입 유럽풍의 모페드(Moped)를 조립 생산하기 시작하였으나 1983년부터는 생산이 중단되었다. 1980년대는 대 림공업과 효선기계에서 각각 이륜차를 생산하기 시작하였다. 대림공업은 일본 "호다까"로부터 설비 및 기술을 도입하였으며, 효성기계 역시 일본 "스즈끼"로부터 기술을 도입하였다. 같은 해 진주 소재 동야정기에서는 서독으로부터 Sachs 엔진 6,600대를 도입하여 모페드(Crown)를 생산 판매하였으나 1982년부터 생산을 중단하였다. 다음 해인 1981년 마신산업은 이태리 피아지 오(Piaggio)로부터 엔진을 도입하여 125cc 급스쿠터를 생산하기 시작하였다. 1980년도에는 5개 업체가 이륜차 생산에 참가하였으나 자연소멸되고 또 81년 2월 28일 자동차산업 합리화조치로 대림공업과 기아기연이 합병되어 대림자동차공업(주)가 1982년 4월 설립됨으로써 현재는 효성 기계, 마신산업과 함께 3개업체가 존재하고 있다. 1975년에는 불과 3개 모델뿐이던 것이 79년 에는 5개 모델, 지금은 30개의 모델을 3개 업체에서 생산하고 있으며 그 동안 없어진 모델이 18개기종이 된다.

  • The purpose of this study is to develop an automatic inspection system for a part of the differential drive gear into the transmission. This technology will make using the microvision automatic test equipment and automatic test equipment microlaser. This is that the operator intends to make the defect rate 0 in the inspection stage of the product which has been carelessly processed. The equipment developed in this research project will be applied to many areas. Packaging companies, nut bolt processing company, precisely supplier for printing on top of the semiconductor, SMT, etc. The company wants to sell the vision inspection equipment for various applications. If the defective rate of 0 is achieved through this research project, it is also possible to secure a stable supply from the parent company, and to lay the foundations for exporting based on product reliability. When the automatic inspection system is applied to domestic automobile parts processing companies, the reliability of automobiles in Korea will be greatly increased.

  • The industrial design in American sense has never been the design movement for socio -cultural change, nor the organized plan for man-made environment. It has been an efficient tool to modify machine and gadgetry into dream products for American people, and at best, to express its futuristic images. In fact, its real function is to expand sales volume and contribute manufacturers profit. The potential market of mass consumption has been led by the technological achievement from the parts changability to automatic assembly line has been combining with industrial design function. Industrial designers in this nation have grown under the circumstance and become design stars of the 20th century.
