  • In electrical impedance tomography (EIT), we use boundary current and voltage measurements to provide the information about the cross-sectional distribution of electrical impedance or resistivity One of the major problems in EIT has been the inaccessibility of internal voltage or current data in finding the internal impedance values. We propose a new image reconstruction method using internal current density data measured by NMR. We obtained a two-dimensional current density distribution within a phantom by processing the real and imaginary MR images from a 4.7T NMR machine. We implemented a resistivity image reconstruction algorithm using the finite element method and sensitivity matrix. We presented computer simulation results of the image reconstruction algorithm and furture direction of the research.

  • A fault location algorithm using estimated local source impedance after a fault is proposed in this paper. The method uses after fault data only at the local end. It uses the negative sequence current distribution factor for more accurate estimation. The proposed algorithm can keep up with the variation of the local source impedance. Therefore, the proposed algorithm especially is valid for a transmission line interconnected to a wind farm that the equivalent source impedance changes continuously. The performance of the proposed algorithm was verified under various fault conditions using the Simpowersystem of MATLAB Simulink. The proposed algorithm is largely insensitive to the variation in fault distance and fault resistance. The test results show a very high accurate performance.

  • Soft ferromagnetic materials are very useful for many sensors using magnetic materials with high permeability, low coercivity and low hysteresis loss. Among them, FeCoSiBNi amorphous magnetic films show us a good impedance change(about 3.05%/Oe, at 12MHz) by the exterior magnetic field in this experiment. These are produced by rapid solidification from the melt and the material is ejected in a jet from a nozzle and quenched in a stream of liquid. After that, we make them a shape of wire with different sizes of width. Thus, we can find that the impedance change (122.16%, at 12MHz) is occurred and the fabricated magnetic wire has the characteristics of good sensor element.

  • In this paper, a new CPW-fed cross shape fractal antenna having a self-affinity is presented. This novel configuration, which has anisotropic scaling symmetry, makes smaller profile characteristic compared to the fractal antenna using a self-similarity. Increase of the iteration coefficient, which leads to decrease of the fundamental resonant frequency, shows a good impedance matching condition and multi-band characteristics due to new surface current paths. The radiation patterns are similar to those of monopole antennas. In the K3 stage of iteration, the proposed antenna shows a measured maximum gain 2.27 dBi at 940 MHz. A commercially available software based on the FDTD algorithm has been used to obtain the predicted results. In addition, an RT/Duroid 5880 substrate has been employed for the experimental results.

  • A Simple equivalent circuit model is developed for a wireless energy transfer system via coupled magnetic resonances and a practical design method is also provided. Node equations for the resonance system are built with the method, expanding on the equations for a transformer, and the optimum distances of coils in the system are derived analytically for optimum coupling coefficients for high transfer efficiency. In order to calculate the frequency characteristics for a lossy system, the equivalent model is established at an electric design automation tool. The model parameters of the actual system are extracted and the modeling results are compared with measurements. Through the developed model, it is seen that the system can transfer power over a mid-range of a few meters and impedance matching is important to achieve high efficiency. This developed model can be used for a design and prediction on the similar systems such as increasing the number of receiving coils and receiving modules, etc.

  • We designed and fabricated an improved null-type torque magnetometer for measuring magnetic anisotropy of magnetic materials. This torque magnetometer has a measurement range of $~{\pm}15$ dyne.cm, and the range can be controlled. Resolution is ~0.0005 dyne.cm. Noise level is less than 0.01 dyne.cm with one measurement, and less than 0.004 dyne.cm with 10 averaged measuremets. The precision is less than 0.5 %. In contrast to typical null-type torque magnetometers, we placed a small ferrite magnet in the Helmholtz coil, instead of placing coil in the permanent magnet. From this novel sturucture, we can design a geometrically isotropic and relatively light-weight sample rod. Also, we can prevent the effect of input and output lines of coil exposed in the magnetic field in torque meter. Consequently, our novel null-type torque magnetometer can have a better sensitivity, faster response time, and smaller distortion of torque curve than commercially available torque magnetometers.

  • We perform MT soundings in Bendigo, the northern part of Victoria, Australia, to investigate the deep subsurface geologic structure. The primary purpose of this survey is to figure out whether the discontinuity such as faults extends northward. The time series of MT signal were measured over 11 days at 71 measurement stations together with at remote reference, which help enhance the quality of impedance estimation and its interpretation. The impedances are estimated by robust processing using remote reference technique and then inverted with 2D MT 2D inversion. We can see that known faults are clearly imaged in MT 2D inversion. Comparing resistivity images from MT 2D inversion with interpreted boundary from reflection seismic exploration, two interpretations match well each other.

  • In Magnetic Resonance Electrical Impedance Tomography (MREIT), we inject current through electrodes placed on the surface of a subject and measure the induced magnetic flux density distribution using an MRI scanner. This requires a constant current source whose output pulses are synchronized with MR pulse sequences. In this paper, we present a design and performance analysis of a current source used in a 3.0T MREIT system. The developed current source was tested using a saline phantom. We found that its performance is satisfactory for the current MREIT system. We suggest future improvements for better SNR(signal-to-noise ratio).

  • This paper describes a read-only CMOS transponder IC for RFID applications. A full-wave rectifier implemented using NMOS transistors supplies the transponder with a dc supply voltage using the magnetic field generated from a reader. A 64-bit ROM has been designed for a data memory. Front-end impedance modulation and Manchester coding are used for transmitting the data from the transponder memory to the reader. A new damping circuit which has almost constant damping rate under the variations of the distance between the transponder and the reader has been employed for impedance modulation. The designed circuit has been fabricated using a 0.65${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$2-poly, 2-metal CMOS process. Die area is 0.9mm$\times$0.4mm. Measurement results show that it has a constant damping rate of around 20~25% and a data transmission rate of 3.9kbps at a 125KHz RF carrier. The power required for reading operation is about 100㎼. The measured reading distance is around 7cm.

  • As the design complexity and performances are increased in satellite electronic board, noise related problems are also increased. To minimize the noise issues, various design improvements are performed by power integrity and signal integrity analysis in this research. Static power and dynamic power design are reviewed and improved by DC IR drop and power impedance analysis. Signal integrity design is reviewed and improved by time domain signal wave analysis and PCB(Printed Circuit Board) design modifications. And also power planes resonance modes are checked and mitigation measures are verified by simulation. Finally, it is checked that radiated noise is reduced after design improvements by EMC(Electro Magnetic Compatibility) RE(Radiated Emission) measurement results.
