Experiences of Ageism and "Self-Ageism" (노인차별 경험과 자기연령주의(self-ageism))

  • This study focuses on the process of internalizing the perception of negative discrimination among elderly people who have experienced age discrimination. The grounded theory method was used to identify the age discrimination experienced by the elderly in their daily lives and to explore the consequences of such discrimination through self-ageism. According to the analysis results, the elderly respond not only to explicit discrimination but also to implicit discrimination. In this process, the stronger the pain of old age (poverty, disease, ignorance, and solitude) and the stronger the memory of failing to respond to discrimination, the higher the level of self-ageism. "Self-ageism" has internalized the negative image of the elderly, who have been discriminated against by age, resulting in disadvantages in terms of quality of life through various reject/separate/suspension actions in reality. In the presence of supportive resources such as health, institutional support, and caregivers, the elderly have room to overcome self-ageism through more active ways. However elderly people who cannot motivate themselves and they lack these resources, elderly are trapped in negative reflux caused by self-ageism and sustained a depressed and shrinking life. In this state, it is not easy to motivate themselves and make physical, cognitive, emotional and social responses. Therefore, in this analysis, we specifically noted two aspects, contextual conditions and interventional conditions, and proposed programs for synchronizing senior citizens and improving resiliency from a microscopic point of view, and argued for the need to develop systems such as supplementing welfare and health service systems related to the entire life cycle, expanding accessibility and 'age-integration' through 'Community Care', awareness improvement and anti-discrimination laws.

Effects of volunteer activities on self-development and sociability-development of undergraduates: focus on meaning of volunteering (대학생 자원봉사활동이 자기개발과 사회성개발에 미치는 영향분석: 자원봉사활동의 의미성 척도를 중심으로)

  • The present research aimed at investigating the impacts of volunteer activities on self-development and sociability-development. In study 1, the scale comprised of 15 items was developed to measure the meaningfulness of volunteer activities. An exploratory factor analysis was conducted on the data obtained from 428 undergraduates (193 males and 235 females). A confirmatory factor analysis was then conducted on the data obtained from 280 undergraduates (124 males and 156 females). In study 2, the impacts of volunteer activities on 947 undergraduates (461 males and 486 females) were analyzed in terms of self-development and sociability-development. Self-development consisted of self-evaluation, self-esteem, and quality of life. Sociability-development consisted of pother-acceptances, sense of community, and democratic citizenship. The results showed that not more volunteer activities itself but more meaningfulness of those activities had stronger relations with self-development and sociability-development. Finally, a values of the undergraduates internalized for volunteer activities and their levels of self-development and sociability-development expectation were discussed.

How Do People Experience Changes and Growths of the Self in On-line Game World? (온라인 게임 세계 속에서 게임 사용자들은 시간이 흐름에 따라 자신의 모습에서 어떠한 변화와 성장을 경험하는가?)

  • This research was conducted in an attempt to understand changes and growths of the self in on-line game world. Q methodology was used to investigate players in Mabinogi, which is an on-line game(MMORPG). Based on 57 behavior statements, Players distributed their changing experiences from when they were novices in on-line game world to the current state. In early start phase, they recognized that on-line game world was different from the reality. And they perceived their experiences in on-line game as separated from the real ones. However, as they spend more time in on-line game world, they began to realized that on-line game world is as real as the world because they function as an individual living in a society in both the game and the real world. They felt and learned that in on-line game life, they also need to follow the rules and order. In addition, trust and politeness were essential in order to live with other players. As time passed, the players realized that on-line game experiences have the same meanings and values as the real life ones. 3 types of self-changing patterns were found : Achievement change, Control change, and Relation change. The behavior patterns of the 3 types were then compared to Identify similarities and differences amongst them in psychological meanings and values in the on-line game life. This result illustrates that on-line game world can be defined as new behavioral setting or developmental context established by digital technology. In this new setting, people can experiment and understand their behavior patterns and also experience changes and growths of the self.

The Analysis on the Efficiency of the Program for Job-seeking Efficacy of the Disabled (장애인의 구직효능감을 위한 구직역량프로그램 효과 분석)

  • This study analyzed the efficiency of a program designed for enforcing the job-seeking ability to overcome the career-barriers as well as the effect of the job-seeking efficacy toward the job-maintaining willingness of the disabled. For this research, the job-seeking ability enforcement program, which was started by the Korea Employment Agency for the Disabled, was executed towards the 86 disabled by 7 sessions, which has been operated 6 hours a day for 4 days per week from December in 2012 to November in 2013. The survey for the study was taken twice with the same questionnaire toward the same object; one was a pre-survey that has been done before operating the program and the other was a pro-survey that was done after operating the program. The data was analyzed to obtain the 4 variables of job-seeking efficacy to overcome the career-barriers, which were self-efficacy, job-seeking skill, interpersonal relationship skill and job-information exploration and the 5th variable, job-maintaining willingness. The study findings were as follows. Firstly, the program efficiency was significant in interpersonal relationship skill and job-information exploration, while not significant in self-efficacy and job-seeking skill. Secondly, the self-efficacy and interpersonal relationship skill among the job-seeking efficacy to overcome career-barriers positively affects the job-maintaining willingness.

The Convergence Effect of Career Education Program for Freshmen of Nursing Department on Learning Motivation, College Life Adaptation and Self-efficacy (간호대 신입생을 위한 진로교육프로그램이 학습동기와 대학생활적응 및 자기효능감에 미치는 융복합적 효과)

  • The purpose of this study was to identify the effect of Career Education Program(CEP) on freshmen of nursing department. A non-equivalent pre-post test of quasi-experimental design was used. 44 freshmen were assigned to an intervention group and 36 freshmen to a control group. The intervention program was composed of introduction, self-navigation, explore the world of work, career design and termination during 12 weeks from March to June, 2014. Data were collected before-and after program, and analyzed using the SPSS 22.0 program. There were significant increases in learning motivation (t=8.92, p<.001) and college life adaptation (t=3.51, p<.001) in the experimental group compared to the control group. This study suggests that CEP would be an efficient way to adapt to school and take learning motivation for nursing students. It is necessary to develop a systematic and tailored career education program for nursing students from a freshmen to a senior.

Who Needs Life Insurance? - Focusing on Recognition of Insurance and Socioeconomic Values - (어떤 사람이 보험을 필요로 하는가? - 보험 인식 및 사회경제적 가치관을 중심으로 -)

  • The study identified 1,500 adult consumers aged 25-54 years with life insurance within the last year as three groups, top, middle and bottom of need recognition, and demonstrated differences in insurance and finance perception and socioeconomic value perception. In particular, the study sought to identify the influence of socioeconomic value recognition factors in addition to overall recognition factors related to insurance and finance, the number of insurance held and insurance satisfaction. Overall recognition factors related to insurance and finance were classified as 'recognition of insurance as a means of professional management and finance', 'self-directed insurance design and contract' and 'recognition of economic burden on insurance'. Socioeconomic value recognition factors were divided into 'socioeconomic self-sufficiency', 'work-life value pursuit' and 'economic value pursuit'. We identified factors that affect the recognition of a higher need for insurance needs as a higher recognition of need for insurance needs. In particular, the most influential factor for the median group was the recognition of insurance as a professional management asset-tech product, and the upper group was found to be a work-life balance factor. The second influential factor was self-directed insurance design and contract factors for both groups. In order to increase the rate of insurance subscription in the future, insurance should be recognized as an essential product to pursue work-life value, and continuous improvement in information exploration conditions for consumers to explore information and compare products will be important to revitalize the insurance market.

A Study on the Development of Career Program for Senior Student-Athletes in College (대학 졸업을 앞둔 학생선수의 진로준비과정을 위한 진로프로그램 개발 연구)

  • Student-athletes identify themselves as athletes first and students second and experience identity foreclosure in which they rarely consider other possibilities for their career besides professional athletes. There is a gap between the career education that college student-athletes and regular students get, so we conducted this study to test the effectiveness of a career education program. The proposed career education program was based on Super and Ginsberg's career development theory and Holland's career choice theory. Data were collected from 13 college student-athletes using a pretest-posttest research design and analyzed using a t-test. The program was conducted in the form of 90-minute weekly sessions over 3 weeks. The program's effectiveness was measured in terms of participants' stress from a lack of career information, career preparedness, self-understanding, and career decision-making self-efficacy. The results showed that each variable, except stress from a lack of career information, was significantly improved after the program compared to before the program, indicating that the program was effective. Theoretical and practical implications regarding career education for student-athletes are discussed in this paper.

Indigenous psychological analysis of trust in Korean culture (한국인의 신뢰의식에 나타난 토착심리 탐구)

  • The purpose of this paper is to examine the concept of trust in Korean culture using the indigenous psychological analysis. First, this paper raises central questions that arise in Korean families, schools, companies and society: 1) Why are some Korean families disintegrating? 2) What core values do Korean schools teach? 3) What are the goals that Korean companies pursue? 4) Does trust exist in Korean society? Second, this paper reviews a series of empirical studies conducted using the indigenous psychology approach. The results indicate the following three major themes: 1) trust is based on relational culture and ingroup identity; 2) emotional attachment and bond provide the basis of trust; 3) the emphasis on cultivation of virtue through constant self-cultivation rather than ability and the control of the environment. Third, this paper raises central issues that need to be addressed: 1) the extension and expansion of trust beyond the narrow confines of the family and ingroup to include outgroup members; 2) recognition and balance of public rationality and private emotions and relations in society; 3) the achievement of balance between self-regulation and the control of the environment.

  • 현장조사학습은 학습자로 하여금 생생한 현실에 직면하게 함으로써 보고 듣고 느끼는 구체적인 학습을 통하여 생활경험과 시야를 넓히고 사회사상 간의 관계를 보다 잘 이해할 수 있게 하며 사회과 교수, 학습과정에서의 문제해결을 위해 교실을 벗어나 고장을 중심한 우리도의 현지학습을 위주로 하는 것을 말한다. 그러나 21세기 정보화시대를 맞아하여 우리는 수많은 정보를 일일이 다 경험하기에는 한계가 있으며 현실적으로도 매우 어려운 실정이다. 또한 초등학교 사회과 편성의 주요방향인 정보화능력을 바탕으로 학습자가 정보화 사회에 나아가 다양한 정보를 취득하고 활용하여 현대사회의 문제를 창의적이며 합리적으로 해결하는 능력을 길러야 한다. 이러한 능력을 기를 수 있는 기틀을 마련해 주기위해 학습자가 원하는 시간과 장소에서 자기 학습력과 속도에 맞춰 자기 주도적인 학습을 할 수 있도록 학습자에게 다양한 미디어를 결합시킴 형태의 WBI를 설계하고 구현하여 학습효과를 극대화 하고자 한다. 본 연구에서는 사회과 4학년 1학기 보조교과서 "우리 경상남도의 생활"을 재구성하여 서부경남의 7개 시 군의 교통, 관광, 인구, 특산물, 문화재, 등에 대하여 정보를 탐색, 분석, 활용할 수 있는 능력을 길러주고자 한다.

A Study on Clothing Consumption Value: A Qualitative Approach (의복 소비가치에 대한 질적 연구)

  • 본 연구는 소비자의 실제적인 의복 소비 행동을 설명할수 있는 가치 개념을 제시하기 위하여 의복 소비가치의 구체적 유형을 밝히고, 적합하고 신뢰성 있는 의복 소비가치 척도를 구성 할 수 있는 기초자료를 제시 하고자 하였다. 본 연구에서는 Sheth(1991)의 소비 가치 이론과 의류학 및 소비자 행동분야의 다양한 이론을 토대로 초점집단면접(Focus Group Interview)을 통하여 소비가치에 대한 탐색적 접근을 시도한 결과를 논의하였다. 의복의 구매와 착용의 선택상황에 영향을 미치는 소비가치는 Sheth(1991)의 5가지 소비가치 유형인 기능적 가치, 사회적 가치, 감정적 가치, 진귀적 가치, 상황적 가치 및 의복제품의 특성에 따른 자기표현적 가치로 분류되었다. 기능적 가치는 물리적 속성, 물리적 기능, 도구적 성과와 관련되었으며, 사회적 가치는 사회계층, 준거집단, 인구통계 적 특성 집단, 문화-민족적 집단과의 관련성 에 대 한 가치로 구성되었다. 감정적 가치는 긍정적, 부정적 감정 및 심미성 요인으로 구성되었으며, 진취적 가치는 다양성추구행동 요인 및 유행성의. 새로움 추구 요인과 관련되었다 또한 상황적 가치는 의복착용상황, 구매상황, 커뮤니케이션 상황으로 구성되었으며, 자기표현적 가치는 성격, 이미지 표현, 개성추구, 유행추구 등의 요인으로 구성되었다. 본 연구의 이러한 결과를 바탕으로 소비가치에 대한 양적 연구를 실시한다면, 보다 객관적인 구조를 파악하고 신뢰성 있는 측정 문항을 개발할 수 있을 것이다.
