Magnetic properties of basic rocks samples distributed in the seaside area of Ulleung island were investigated by means of X-ray fluorescence spectroscopy (XRF), M$\ddot{o}$ssbauer spectroscopy and SQUID magnetometer. We found that samples were typical basic rock which had the total amount of iron compounds varies from 10.6 wt% to 14.5 wt% depending on the different regions by XRF. The M$\ddot{o}$ssbauer spectra and magnetic hysteresis behaviors of the samples show ferromagnetic properties due to hematite. Also, temperature dependences of magnetization at applied magnetic field of 1 T for samples show magnetic transitions at 41 K~60 K.
We have studied the effect of a spin-dependence interface electron scattering on the giant magnetoresistance by adding a Fe magnetic material to the Co/Cu interfaces. The $Fe(50\;{\AA})/[Co(17\;{\AA})/Fe(t\;{\AA})/Cu(24\;{\AA})]_{20}$ multilayers are deposited on the Corning glass 2948 and 7059 substrates in a dc magnetron sputtering system. The magnetoresistance ratio is 22 % in the only Co/Cu multilayer, while it is increased to 26 % with inserted ultra thin Fe interface layer and reduced with increasing thickness of the Fe interface layer. It was investigated to the dependence of the magnetoresistance behaviors on annealing temperature. The magnetic properties of the multilayers were measured by vibrating sample magnetometer. Also, the structures and the surface roughness of samples were characterized by X-ray diffraction and atomic force microscope, respectively. The magnetoresistance ratio was increased to annealing temperature $300^{\circ}C$, but reduced at the temperature higher than $300^{\circ}C$ due to the interfacial diffuse.
13Cr-1.5Nb-Fe alloy powder prepared by water atomizing method is reduced with flowing hydrogen gas. The characteristics of a reduced alloy powder is investigated and magnetic cores formed by using the reduction power sintered in the vacuum of ∼10$\^$-5/ Torr. In order to study on the magnetic cores permeability and power loss in alternating magnetic field are also measured. The result of particle size distribution shows the paticle size is 70 ㎛ at volume fraction of 50 %. The saturation magnetization of the reduced alloy powder is 160 emu/g. The relative peak permeability (H$\_$a/=5Oe) of a magnetic core is 400 and the power loss (B$\_$m/=80G) 0.12 mW/cc at sintering temperature of 1,200 $\^{C}$, 10 ton/㎠ forming pressure, and 1 kHz.
We report the magnetic properties, microstructures, and crystal orientations of the CrO$_2$ thin films on TiO$_2$ single crystals. CrO$_2$ thin films were deposited by thermal decompositions with CrO$_3$ source materials. The microstructure of (110) oriented CrO$_2$ thin films deposited on (110) TiO$_2$ single crystals were uniform. As the oxygen flow rates increased, the resistivity, coercive field, and remnant magnetization of the CrO$_2$ thin films on TiO$_2$ single crystals decreased.
The ordering of nanopores in AAO has been improved by using laser interference lithography. After growing Fe and Cu on this substrate in vacuum and removing AAO, Fe nanodots are fabricated. The nanopores in AAO and nanodots are ordered in one dimension following the prepatterning. It has been confirmed from the magnetic hysteresis loop that the Fe nanodots have vortex structure and the dipolar interaction is dominant among them.
We have theoretically investigated torque curve shapes of simple uniaxial magnetic materials by considering conditions for round peaks to exist. These conditions are functions of an applied field, anisotropy field, ans lowest critical field $h_0$ for a domain wall to move or nucleate. The peak having a height of 2h appears when h is lower than h$_1$, the peak having a height of 1 appears when h is higher than h$_2$, ans two peaks having heights of 1 and -1 appear when h is higher than h$_3$. It was found that torque curves of simple uniaxial magnetic materials could be classified into 8 distinct types depending on the existence of hysteresis, the number of the round peaks, and the reversal mechanisms. Simple uniaxial magnetic materials also found to be classifed into the 5 groups depending on $h_0$.
The effect of nanoscopic and microscopic Fe, $Fe_3O_4$, and Ni particles and their shapes and substrate materials on the heating behavior of thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) adhesive films was investigated via induction heating. The heat generation tendency of $Fe_3O_4$ particles was higher than that shown by Fe and Ni particles in the TPU adhesive films. When the Fe and Ni particle size was larger than the penetration skin depth, the initial heating rate and maximum temperature increased with an increase in the particle size. This is attributed to the eddy current heat loss. The heating behavior of the TPU films with Ni particles of different shapes was examined, and different hysteresis heat losses were observed depending on the particle shape. Consequently, the flake-shaped Ni particles showed the most favorable heat generation because of the largest hysteresis loss. The substrate materials also affected the heating behavior of the TPU adhesive films in an induction heating system, and the thermal conductivity of the substrate materials was determined to be the main factor affecting the heating behavior.
Artificial superlattices of Co/Pd were prepared by RF magnetron sputtering Multilayered structure and compositional modulation were analyzed with a side angle x-ray diffractometer. It has been found that expansion of Co lattice occured in this artificial superlattice due to the lattice mismatch between Co and Pd. Perpendicular magnetic anisotropy could be observed when the Co layer thickness became less than 8${\AA}$ and maximum coercivity of 2350 Oe could be obtained in [Co(2.5 ${\AA}$)/Pd(9.3 ${\AA})]_{50}$/Pd$(200\;{\AA})$ with a perfect squareness of magnetic hysteresis loop. Characteristic of perpendicular magnetic anisotropy in Co/Pd superlattices could be related to the expansion of Co lattice caused by Pd layer and it turned out that as the thickness of Pd layer increased, perpendicular magnetic anisotropy increased. The interface anisotropy energy and volume anisotropy energy were calculated to be 0.29 ergs/$cm^2$ and -$6.9{\times}10^6$ ergs/$cm^3$ respectively, which are consistent with the values reported elsewhere.
In order to measure magnetic field difference, we have constructed a fluxgate magnetometer which is based on the measurement of apparent coreci ve field strength from the magnetizing current of two sensors. 'Co-based amorphous ribbon, which has square shape of ac hysteresis loop, was used as core material. Two sensors have 315 turns of the primary and the secondary windings respectively, and core size of 2 mm wide and 30 mm long. The primary windings are connected parallel to measure external magnetic field difference and the secondary windings serieally for the averaged magnetic induction of the cores. The constructed magnetometer could measure magnetic field difference with sensitivity of $1.6{\times}10^{6}V/T$ and resolution of 1 nT at 1 Hz bandwidth.
In relation to the application of magnetic method to the evaluation of irradiation damage (embrittlement) changes in the magnetic parameters(hysteresis loop and Barkhausen noise) and Vickers microhardness due to neutron irradiation and heat treatment were measured and compared. In the case of irradiation $(2.3{\times}10^{19}\;n/cm^2,\; E{\ge}1\;Mev,\; 288{\circ}C)$ hysteresis loop measurements show that susceptibility decreases as coercivity increase. Saturation magnetization do not show any change. Barkhausen noise amplitude and Barkhausen noise energy have decreased while Vickers microhardness has increased. For isothermally heat treated condition of irradiated specimen at 470 $^{\circ}C$ and 540 $^{\circ}C$, Barkhausen noise energy has increased while Vickers microhardness has decreased. Results of BNE and Vickers microhardness are reversed to the results on irradiated condition. All these consistent changes in magnetic parameter and Vickers microhardness measurement, which are thought to be resulted from the interaction between irradiation-induced defects and dislocation, and magnetic domain, respectively, show a possibility that magnetic measurement may be used to the evaluation of material degradation and recovery due to neutron irradiation and heat treatment, respectively, if a relevant large database in prepared.
