자궁암은 물론 자궁의 건강 상태를 점검할 수 있는 자궁암 검사는 세포를 채취하기만 하면 끝이다. 유방암 검사 역시 간단한 촬영과 초음파 검사를 통해 유방 상태를 점검할 수 있다. 자궁암 검서와 유방암 검사는 절차가 복잡하지도 다른 준비가 필요하지도 않다. 부인과 검진에 대해 알아보자.

’건강할 때 건강을 지키자‘는 말만큼 당연히 지켜져야 하면서도 쉽게 지키기 어려운 일이 또 있을까. 건강이란게 그렇다. 좀 이상하다 싶어도 그냥 낫겠지 하기 십상이고, 확실한 증상이 있어 아차 싶을 때에야 병원엘 가게 된다. 여자들의 경우는 좀 더하다. 가정에서 살림만 하다 보니 건강검진은커녕 6개월에 한 번씩은 해야 한다는 자궁암 검진을 받는 일조차 쉽지가 않은 것이다. 그러나 여성암, 특히 자궁암은 웬만해서는 증상이 전혀 없이 악화되는 경우가 대부분이다. 지난 해 한국건강관리협회 대전 · 충남지부에서 자궁암 검진을 받고 유소견 판정을 받은 사람들을 상대로 조사한 결과 대부분이 처음으로 검진을 받았고 발견 전에 증상을 전혀 느낄 수 없었다고 대답했다. 여성 건강은 가정생활에 있어 가정 중요한 부분이라 할 수 있다. 즉 지키기 힘들지만 건강할 때 꼭 건강을 지키는 지혜로운 여성이 되어야 한다는 것이다.’94년 대전 · 충남지부에서 자궁암 검진을 받고 수술 후 건강을 되찾은 두 사람의 이야기가 건강을 생각하는 여성들에게 좋은 본보기가 되기를 바란다.

Several proteolytic activities and the level of and-trypsin in neoplastic tissues of human cervix and liver were compared to those in normal tissues to examine if any correlation exists between malignant behavior of the tumors and the changes in overall proteolytic capacity. Proteolysis against casein and insulin in cervix tumor was increased to 2-to 3-fold while that in liver tumor was reduced to one-tenth to one-half. By contrast, the level of anti-trypsin in cervix tumor was lowered to nearly one-tenth of that in normal tissues while the level rose to about 2-fold in malignant tissues of liver. On the other hand, the activities of plasmin-like protease and plasminogen activator were enhanced 10-20% over the activities in normals. These results suggest that the changes in proteolytic capacity are at least in part due to outbalance in either of proteolytic or its inhibitory activity over the other and occur distinctively to each tumor systems for their malignant behavior.

농업협동중앙회는 ‘86년부터 공제 계약자에 대한 환원산업의 일환으로 계약자 건강검사를 실시해오고 있다. 간염, 자궁암 검사를 중심으로 건강검사를 실시해온 농협은 그 동안 많은 농민들에게 혜택을 주어왔다. 농협전남도지회의 경우 지난해에 간염 19,488명, 자궁암 11,070명, 소변검사 30,588명을 검사해 내고 자궁암의 경우, 유소견자가 발견되었을 때는 건협과 함께 치료를 받을 때까지 권유와 사후관리를 소홀히 하지 않았다. 뿐만 아니라 검사결과 전반을 분석 · 검토하여 농민의 건강상태, 건강에 관한 의식정도, 검사과정의 문제점, 개선 방안 등을 모색하여 농민복지에 기여해야 한다는 복지 환원사업을 성실히 이끌어 나가고 있다. 이러한 노력은 어느 곳에서나 마찬가지였지만 특히 전남농협도지회는 이성재도지회장을 비롯한 직원들 모두가 일심동체가 되어 농민 건강에 대한 각별한 관심을 가지고 일해 왔다. 그것은 이 건강검사를 받은 농민들 특히 질병을 발견해 치료를 받은 사람들이 농협공제사업에 대한 필요성과 고마움을 이야기하는 데서 충분히 느낄 수 있었다. 기자는 지난해에 있었던 전남도지회 검사에서 자궁암을 발견한 17명 중 몇 사람을 만나 이야기를 들어봤다.

To evaluate the impacts of the health education programs including smoking cessation, pap smear and breast self-examination(BSE), a community trial was conducted during one year from December 1996 to December 1997 in Kyongju City. Before health education, a base-line survey was implemented and the target population was allocated randomly to case and control groups. The case and control groups were divided into three categories which were smoking cessation, pap smear and BSE. The series of health education leaflets about anti-smoking, pap smear and BSE were mailed to case group and the evaluation survey was conducted at the end of this trial to compare the change of health related behaviours of case and control groups. Smoking prevalence of case group did not decline significantly after anti-smoking education but the cessation rates of the elderly and low educated were higher than others. The knowledge level of case group on the health risk associated with smoking was higher than that of control group and the willingness of case group to quit smoking was higher than the control group. The case group's compliance with pap smear for cervical cancer was more increased compared to control group after health education. Of the case group, the younger and lower educated women were screened at a higher rate than others. The knowledge level of case group on the risk factors of cervical cancer and how to prevent it was higher than that of control group. Nearly 60 percent of case group reported that the health education leaflet influenced them to have the pap smear. The unscreened cases were highly motivated to get the pap smear test in the future.

This study was conducted to identify the level of quality of life and factors influencing on quality of life in Korean women with breast cancer and cervical cancer. This study was secondary analysis using The seventh Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (KNHANES). In the result of this study, women with the lower age, higher household income, and higher self-rated health status, had the higher level of quality of life. Following the result, intervention strategies are needed to enhance self-rated health and to improve quality of life in women with lower age and lower household income.

때때로 우리는 살기 위해 일하는지, 일하기 위해 사는지를 반문하고 한다. 살기 위해 일하는 것이지만 흔히 그 일을 망각하고 산다. 건협의 순회검진에서 자궁암 검사를 받아 이상을 발견한 권남이씨(만43세, 경북 청송군 청송읍 부곡1동). 발견 즉시 수술을 받아 건강을 회복한 그녀는 삶의 중요성과 가족에 대한 사랑, 그리고 건강 건사가 왜 필요한지를 새삼 느꼈다며 밝게 웃었다.
