Effect of Particulate Contamination on the Friction and Wear of Pico/Nano-Slider (오염입자가 pico/nano-slider의 마찰 마모에 미치는 영향)

  • The effect of particulate contamination on the friction and wear between a negative-pressure picoslider/tri-pad nanoslider and laser-textured disk was studied. Particles of different concentration were injected at the head-disk interface consisting of disks with various textures and slider types at different speed. Durability increased and coefficient of friction decreased as the disk speed increased in a contaminated environment. Frictional characteristics and durability in the data Bone were better than those in the laser-textured zone. It was also found that durability of head-disk interface (HDI) decreased as the particle concentration increased. The interface durability with a picoslider was better than that with a nanoslider at any condition in a contaminated environment. Based on the test results, mechanisms were proposed to explain the reasons why durability with a picoslider was superior to that with a nanoslider.

  • Since air pollution has become a globally critical issue and exhaust emissions from automobiles cause a major source of air pollution, many countries including advanced countries have stipulated stringent emission regulations. This test was conducted on the effect of continuous regeneration diesel particulate filter and cooled-EGR, and 15ppm low sulfur diesel was used as a test fuel. Exhaust emissions, PM, NOx, CO, HC and Soots were measured and compared under D-13modes. Through durability test on diesel particulate filter, regeneration characteristics and control technology on PM were investigated in overall.

  • Diesel engines which emit a lot of PM and NOx have been known as a main air polluter. Especially, diesel particulate matters (OPM) including black smoke are hazardous air pollutants to human health and environment. The nations retaining advanced engine technologies have reinforced emission regulations. To meet these regulations diesel engine manufacturers have developed low-emission diesel engines, aftertreatment equipments, alternative fuel technologies and so on. In this study, particle number concentrations characteristics according to particle size and engine driving conditions were analyzed when these low-emission technologies were applied. There was a tendency of increasing particle number concentrations from heavy-duty diesel engines with increasing engine rpm and load rate. In the cases of COPF (Catalytic Diesel Particulate Filter), CNG (Compressed Natural Gas) engine and ULSD (Ultra Low Sulfur Diesel) more than 99% of particle number concentration were removed.

  • The characteristics of particulate matters (PM) from an exhaust gas for conventional and low temperature diesel combustion (LTC) in a compression ignition engine was experimentally investigated by the elemental, thermogravimetric analysis. Morphology of PM was also studied by the transmission electron microscopy. PM for LTC shows that it contains more volatile hydrocarbons, which can be easily evaporated than conventional regime. PM for LTC is comprised of smaller primary particles.

  • In this study, Particulate carbon were determined from 1990 to 1995. The annual variation were investigated. The sampling was carried out using high volume air sampler. Average concentrations of EC and OC during the yellow sand event were $25.70{\mu}g/m^3$ and $13.91{\mu}g/m^3$, respectively, $22.10{\mu}g/m^3$ and $10.33{\mu}g/m^3$ during the non-yellow sand event. TC concentration of TSP were 10.7% during the yellow sand event and 20.6% during the non-yellow sand event. Average concentration rate of EC and OC of TC were 64.9% and 35.1%, respectively during the yellow sand event, 67.6% and 32.4% during the non-yellow sand event.

  • This paper addresses influence on the flow field by varying the length of DPF Inlet pipe in 5 ways. Numerical analysis is carried out by using PIV and commercial code and as a result, PIV and commercial code shows correlation correspond to 87%. Furthermore, in the same velocity condition, as stable and high pressure value is shown when the Inlet pipe length is 20mm, particulate filtering rate can be increased.

  • Because of their simplicity, efficiency, and economy, slow sand filters are appropriate means of water treatment for small water systems. In this study, the effect of filtration velocity and dirty skin (Schmutzdecke) was evaluated on the performance of turbidity removal. Also, removal characteristics of particulate were investigated in the case of the usage of non-woven fabric on the surface of sand and the application of PCF as pretreatment process. Comparative column tests were carried out for the various operation condition. From the result of column tests, filtration velocity had little effect on the turbidity removal rate. The formation of algal biofilm on the surface of media is helpful in turbidity removal, while non-woven fabric is not as effective as expected. The relative contribution of biomass and accumulated particulates to head loss development in slow sand filters requires further study.

  • Among after treatment devices which reduce exhaust gas of diesel engine, diesel oxidation catalyst(DOC) with high reduction efficiency for gaseous matter and particulate matter is now being studied actively. In this study, an experiment was conducted to analyze the effects on factors of oxidaton characteristics and conversion efficiency of DOC. We tested to estimate change of engine performance whether a 11,000cc diesel engine equipps with DOC or not. We conducted test to estimate the reduction efficiency of exhaust gas in P-5 mode, in D-13 mode of heavy duty diesel regulation mode and in somoke opacity mode for two samples and also we conducted test to analyze the effects about both exhaust gas velocities 1,100rpm and 2,200rpm

  • Recently, The world is faced with the very serious problems related to the increasing use of the conventional petroleum fuels. The air pollutions in big cities have been occurred by the exhaust emissions from automobiles. Many researchers have been attracted various oxygen-enriched for the measure of these problems. In this study, Oxygen-enriched air supplied to a diesel engine has significant benefits in reducing the particulate matter emission but detects in increasing the NOx. This study concluded that the oxygen-enriched and cooled-EGR might be a good measure to reduce smoke, particulate emission and NOx in diesel engine.

  • The ambient concentrations of gaseous and particulate phase ionic species and gaseous organic species in the Yochon industrial estate were measured during the spring ans summer of 1996. A three-stage filter pack sampler was used to collect particles and gaseous species, and stainless steel air sampling containers were used to collect air samples for organic species analyses. The concentrations of ions in aerosol wree comparable to those measured in Seoul. Aerosols measured were acidic, thus, most volatile acidic species were in the gas phase. The concentrations of organic species were highly variable, implying those were strongly dependent on the emissions of organic species from petrochemical plants. The concentrations of a few hazardous organic components were higher than those in Seoul or some populated areas in USA.
