A Design for Solid-State Radar SSPA with Sequential Bias Circuits (순차바이어스를 이용한 반도체 레이더용 SSPA 설계)

  • In this paper, we present a design for solid-state radar SSPA with sequential bias. We apply to variable extension pulse generator to eliminate signal distortion which is caused by bias rising/falling delay of power amplifier. There is an optimum impedance matching circuit to have high efficiency of GaN-power device by measuring microwave characteristics through load-pull method. The designed SSPA is consisted of pre-amplifier, drive-amplifier and main-amplifier as a three stages to apply for X-Band solid-state radar. Thereby we made a 200W SSPA which has output pulse maximum power shows 53.67dBm and its average power is 52.85dBm. The optimum design of transceiver module for solid-state pulse compression radar which is presented in this dissertation, it can be available to miniaturize and to improve the radar performances through additional research for digital radar from now on.

  • In this paper, a selective feedback low-noise amplifier (LNA) has been realized in a $0.18{\mu}m$ CMOS technology to cover a number of wireless multi-standards. By exploiting notch filter, the SF-LNA demonstrates the measured results of the power gain (S21) of 11.5~13dB and the broadband input/output impedance matching of less than -10dB within the frequency bands of 820~960MHz and 1.5~2.5GHz, respectively. The chip dissipates 15mW from a single 1.8V supply, and occupies the area of $1.17\times1.0mm^2$.

  • In this paper, we have developed a new type of the microwave phase conjugator for the active retrodirective antenna array. The circuit topology is consisted of a 2-port structure to avoid the complexity of LO and RF signal combination and matching, using the cascade connection of two single-ended mixers. The operating frequencies are 4.0 GHz, 2.01 GHz and 1.99 GHz for LO, RF, and IF, respectively. Conversion loss is measured to be -7 dB and 1-dB compression point 15 dBm with the LO power of 9 dBm. For the most important parameter, the isolation between RE leakage and IF signal is as high as 25 dB.

  • Two types of small wideband antennas are proposed for UWB application. One type is small biconical structure fed by coaxial probe, which is easy to be installed on the circuit board. The other type is of planar bow-tie type fed by coplanar transmission line. Generally, the bandwidth of the latter type is significantly narrower than that of the former type. It is shown, however that the bandwidth of the latter type can be made to be comparable to that of the former, if some series inductive component is introduced in the center conductor line in the CPW transmission line by replacing some part of center line with narrower line of higher characteristic impedance. The series inductance component play an important role of neutralizing the capacitive component of the small bow-tie antenna, thereby making broadband impedance matching possible. The small planar bow-tie antenna was fabricated and experimented. The experimental results for return loss are observed to be in good agreement with simulated results. The radiation pattern is also investigated experimentally.

A Study on Characteristics of the Twin Tree Array Structure of the Triangular Patch Array Antenna (삼각형 패치 트윈 트리 배열 안테나의 특성 연구)

  • This paper is based on the triangular inset patch antenna as the basic structure, and the array structure is the twin tree form to improve the antenna's main lobe gain and reduce the side lobe gain. A twin tree structure was implemented by placing two identical trees of 2-4-6 arrays of triangular inset patches side by side. The parametric analysis confirmed that the gap between tree structures arranged side by side is most effective for impedance matching. The fabricated antenna has a gain of 16.74 dBi at 24.15 GHz, and the beam width of the main lobe is 22° in the E-plane and 6° in the H-plane. The antenna size was 125 mm × 50 mm, and a Taconic TLC substrate with a dielectric constant of 3.2 was used. Although the main lobe gain is improved over the twin tree structure, The directivity in the beam pattern due to the mutual interference of the two tree array structure can be improved.

  • In this paper, X/Ku band waveguide diplexers with H-plane T-junction for satellite communication systems is proposed and its characteristics is cinfirmed. Two frequency bands such as X(7.25 ~ 8.4 GHz) and Ku(12.25 ~ 14.5 GHz) can be separated by the proposed waveguide diplexers. A diplexers is normally including low pass filter, high pass filter and junction waveguide. To simplify the structure of the proposed diplexers, the proposed waveguide diplexers is using impedance matching technique on H-plane of the high pass filter without low pass filter. To use vertical and horizontal polarization, the proposed diplexers with orthomode transducer(OMT) characteristics is also designed. Therefore, it is confirmed that the proposed waveguide diplexers can be used as dual-band and dual-polarization diplexers for satellite communication feed systems.

  • In this paper, a novel waveguide low pass filter for satellite communication is proposed. The proposed low pass filter is designed to obtain wideband characteristics without the interference of higher order modes, sufficient attenuation in the stop-band and small sized lightweight characteristics by evanescent-mode ridge structure. To improve return loss and rejection loss, rectangular ring is inserting around the ridges in the waveguide. Input and output ports of the low pass filter is designed by using the impedance step structure for the impedance matching of the filter. The proposed waveguide low pass filter is fabricated and then measured as return loss over 19.5 dB, insertion loss less than 1.41 dB at the pass-band of 7.25 ~ 8.4 GHz and rejection loss over 67.2 dB at the stop-band of 12.25 ~ 14.5 GHz.

Design of Rectangular Planar Monopole Antenna with a Double Sleeve (이중 슬리브를 갖는 직사각형 평면 모노폴 안테나 설계)

  • In this paper, a wideband antenna accomplished by adding a double sleeve of a rectangular planar monopole structure is proposed. In order to impedance matching of proposed antenna, the antenna performance was improved by adding two gap sleeves and outer sleeve for double sleeve structure. HFSS simulator of ANSYS corp. was used in order to confirm the antenna parameter characteristic. According to the simulation results, the VSWR was less than 2 for the range of 2.5GHz~10.5GHz. The frequency bandwidth is 8GHz. The frequency range of the actual fabricated antenna was 2.92GHz~10.32GHz, the frequency bandwidth is 7.4GHz. The measured radiation pattern frequency is 3GHz, 6GHz and 9GHz. The results are similar with dipole antenna pattern in all frequency. The antenna size is $40{\times}40mm^2$. The utilization possibility of the ultra-wideband planar monopole antenna could be confirmed according to compare and analyze the simulation and measurement data.

  • In this paper, a compact MIMO(Multiple Input Multiple Output) antenna for smart glasses is proposed. The proposed MIMO antenna is designed using T-shaped isolator inserted between two closely located Inverted-F Antenna(IFA) and using two slots located in the ground for isolation enhancement and impedance matching characteristic. The proposed antenna has only the overall dimensions of $35mm{\times}9mm{\times}0.8mm$ and operates in the 2.4 GHz industrial, scientific, and medical(ISM) band. To verify human body effect, the phantom is used for antenna performance. The measured specific absorption rate(SAR) value is 1.38 W/kg with an input power of 18 dBm. The performance of the proposed antenna is compared with that of previous works for verification.

  • In this paper, a compact and wideband CLAS(Conformal Load bearing Antenna Structure) was studied using smart skin technique. In order to satisfy the electrical performance of the CLAS antenna, the proposed CLAS antenna is composed of conductive mesh, face-sheet, radiator, honeycomb, housing. Especially, radiator is composed of composite magneto-dielectric material and radiating element etched on the PCB (Printed Circuit Board). The radiating element is inserted into the composite magneto-dielectric material and has sloted Folded LP(Log Periodic) structure. By fabricated composite magneto-dielectric, the resonance frequency is decreased and the impedance matching characteristics is improved. We verified that the antenna has wideband characteristics and compact size using the antenna test results.
