Implementation of Image Transmission Server System using Embedded Linux (임베디드 리눅스 기반의 영상전송서버 시스템 구현)

  • In this paper, we performed the implementation of image transmission server system using embedded system that is for the specified object and easy to install at any places and move to wherever. Since the embedded system has lower capability than PC, we have to reduce the quantity of calculation and transmission. The image compression like JPEG, needs that the server calculates for making compressed image, makes the server carry the load. So we compresses the image at the server and transmit the codes to the clients connected, then the received codes from server are decoded and displayed at the clients. In this process to make the image compression and transmission effectively, we decrease the procedure as simple as possible to transmit the data in almost real-time. We used the Redhat linux 9.0 OS at the host PC and the target board based on embedded linux. The image sequences are obtained from the camera attached to the FPGA board with ALTERA chip. For effectiveness and avoiding some constraints, we made the device driver. Generally the image transmission server is PC, but using the embedded system as a server makes the server portable and cheaper than the system based on PC.

  • In this paper, we propose a flight data storing system for effective data processing. Since the flight data contains critical information and their sizes are vast, encryption and compression would be needed to manage the flight data in effect. And we implemented the flight data storing system using an embedded board with DSP based on DPCM compression and AES encryption. Especially, we applied the reordering technique to advance the security function. From the simulations for two type data of voice and avionics, we found the developed system is well performed.

  • Density of Phase-Change Memory (PCM) devices has been doubled through the employment of multi-level cell (MLC) technology. However, this doubled-capacity comes in the expense of severe performance degradation, as compared to the conventional single-level cell (SLC) PCM. This negative effect on the performance of the MLC PCM detracts from the potential benefits of the MLC PCM. This paper introduces an efficient way of minimizing the performance degradation while maximizing the capacity benefits of the MLC PCM. To this end, we propose a location-aware hybrid management of SLC and MLC in compressed PCM main memory systems. Our trace-driven simulations using real application workloads demonstrate that the proposed technique enhances the performance and energy consumption by 45.1% and 46.5%, respectively, on the average, over the conventional technique that only uses a MLC PCM.

  • In wireless sensor networks, increasing the sensing rate of each node to improve the data accuracy usually incurs a decrease of network lifetime. In this study, an energy-adaptive data compression scheme is proposed to efficiently control the sensing rate in an energy-harvesting wireless sensor network (WSN). In the proposed scheme, by utilizing the surplus energy effectively for the data compression, each node can increase the sensing rate without any rise of blackout time. Simulation result verifies that the proposed scheme gathers more amount of sensory data per unit time with lower number of blackout nodes than the other compression schemes for WSN.

  • In this paper, we propose an efficient memory architecture for coeff_token encoding in H.264/AVC standard. The VLCTs used to encode the coeff_token syntax element are implemented with the memory. In general, the size of memory must be reduced because it affects the cost and operation speed of the system. Based on the analysis for the codewords in VLCTs, new memory architecture is designed in this paper. The proposed memory architecture results in about 24% memory saving, compared to the conventional memory architecture.

  • In this paper, we implement a lossless compression technique for time-series data generated by IoT (Internet of Things) devices to reduce the disk spaces. The proposed compression technique reduces the size of the encoded data by selectively applying CNN (Convolutional Neural Networks) or Delta encoding depending on the situation in the Forecasting algorithm that performs prediction on time series data. In addition, the proposed technique sequentially performs zigzag encoding, splitting, and bit packing to increase the compression ratio. We showed that the proposed compression method has a compression ratio of up to 1.60 for the original data.

  • In recent times, mobile phones that play an important role in voice communication have became increasingly exciting due to the ability to transmit multimedia contents. However, user's communication cost and service usage fees for digital context exchange are still prohibitive. In this paper, we consider the task of transmitting a facial image in the context of mobile avatar generation. We present image compression as a useful technique to reduce service usage costs of data exchange in mobile communications. In view of this we propose an image compression algorithm that performs better than existing techniques. The suggested algorithm in this paper uses the location of significant coefficient on the wavelet image by detecting facial region as well as the spatial correlation between decomposed bands by wavelet transformation. The algorithm perform well and archives an efficient compression ratio. The proposed method recognizes location information of significant coefficient in advance, thus it is more suitable than existing general compression methods for mobile avatar generation systems.

  • In this paper, we propose a system that the Linux is ported in embedded system with peripheral devices of CIS(CMOS Image Sensor) and GPS module. The system acquires GGA sentence from GPS module by recognizing camera and GPS is used module in Linux kernel. And then the received location information is used to include still image acquired through CIS According to this paper, We compose hardware for embedded system, attach board (including camera), port Linux BootLoader and Kernel. And. then we realize that it insert kernel in CIS control device driver and GPS module device driver.

An Embedded Text Index System for Mass Flash Memory (대용량 플래시 메모리를 위한 임베디드 텍스트 인덱스 시스템)

  • Flash memory has the advantages of nonvolatile, low power consumption, light weight, and high endurance. This enables the flash memory to be utilized as a storage of mobile computing device such as PMP(Portable Multimedia Player). Potable device with a mass flash memory can store various multimedia data such as video, audio, or image. Typical index systems for mobile computer are inefficient to search a form of text like lyric or title. In this paper, we propose a new text index system, named EMTEX(Embedded Text Index). EMTEX has the following salient features. First, it uses a compression algorithm for embedded system. Second, if a new insert or delete operation is executed on the base table. EMTEX updates the text index immediately. Third, EMTEX considers the characteristics of flash memory to design insert, delete, and rebuild operations on the text index. Finally, EMTEX is executed as an upper layer of DBMS. Therefore, it is independent of the underlying DBMS. We evaluate the performance of EMTEX. The Experiment results show that EMTEX can outperform th conventional index systems such as Oracle Text and FT3.

  • 자바의 가장 중요한 특성 중 하나는 플랫폼 독립성이다. 즉, 자바가상머신(Java Virtual Machine: JVM)이 탑재된 모든 플랫폼에서 운영체제의 종류와 상관없이 Java로 작성된 프로그램을 수행시킬 수 있다는 것이다. 이를 위해서는 각각의 플랫폼에 맞는 JVM이 적재되어야 한다. 본 논문에서 구현하게 될 가비지 콜렉션은 JVM의 성능을 좌우하는 중요한 요소이다. 가비지 콜렉션을 구현할 때 이용되는 알고리즘에는 여러 가지가 있다. 본 논문은 stop-copy와 마크-회수 알고리즘에 대해서 설명하고, 마크-회수 알고리즘을 개선한 마크-회수 압축 알고리즘을 이용한 가비지 콜렉션의 설계 및 구현한 내용을 기술하고 있다.
