  • The study aims to make it possible to analyze the solar rights of a building quantitatively at duilding design stage. The solar rights analysis method utilzing Waldram diagram and solar rights table is suggested, and computerized for an accurate, quick and quantitative analysis. To make the suggested analysis method can be applied at any location, Waldram diagram generating process for a given latitude was computerized. The solar rights analysis for a selected sample building block was processed in accordance with the development of analysis method. The results of the study are : 1) An algorithm to present the solar rights of a building on Waldram diagram was developed and computerized. 2) An algorithm to generate the solar rights table was developed and computerized. 3) An algorithm to generate the solar rights table to analyze the difference of two dalternatives was developed and computerized.

  • Computer simulation of buildings and solar energy systems is being used increasingly in energy assessments and design. For the six locations (Seoul, Incheon, Daejeon, Deagu, Gwangju and Busan) in South Korea where the global hourly solar irradiation (GHSI) is currently measured, GHSI was calculated using a comparatively simple cloud cover radiation model (CRM) and sunshine fraction radiation model (SFRM). The result was that the measured and calculated values of GHSI were similar for the six regions. Results of cloud cover and sunshine fraction models have been compared with the measured data using the coefficient of determination (R2), root-mean-square error (RMSE) and mean bias error (MBE). The strength of correlation R2 varied within similar ranges: 0.886-0.914 for CRM and 0.908-0.934 for SFRM. Average MBE for the CRM and SFRM were 6.67 and 14.02 W/m2, respectively, and average RMSE 104.36 and 92.15 W/m2. This showed that SFRM was slightly accurate and used many regions as compared to CRM for prediction of GHSI.

  • Computer simulation of buildings and solar energy systems are being used increasingly in energy assessments and design. This paper discusses the possibility of using sunshine duration data instead of global hourly solar irradiation (GHSI) data for localities with abundant data on sunshine duration. For six locations in South Korea where global radiation is currently measured, the global radiation was calculated using Sunshine Duration Radiation Model (SDRM), compared and analyzed. Results of SDRM has been compared with the measured data on the coefficients of determination (R2), root-mean-square error (RMSE) and mean bias error (MBE). This study recommends the use of sunshine duration based irradiation models if measured solar radiation data is not available.

  • In this work a new correlation has been made to predict the solar radiation for 16 different areas over Korea by estimating the regression coefficients taking into account cloud hours of bright sunshine. Particularly, the multiple linear regression model proposed shows reliable results for estimating the global radiation on a horizontal surface with monthly average deviation of -0.26 to +0.53% and each station annual average deviation of -1.61 to +1.7% from measured values.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the effect of sunshine on the heating energy consumption of apartment houses by a field investigation in Haeundae, Busan. In the field, heating energy consumption of every household is researched by reading a calorimeter and the duration of sunshine of every household is calculated by Sunlight V1.0. Then, the duration of sunshine and heating energy are done regression analysis by SPSS 10. According to this study the apartment houses by orientation spend more energies order of east, west, southeast, southwest, and south. When apartment houses are same orientation, there is difference of $29{\sim}58\%$ in heating energy consumption by the duration of sunshine. And the heating energy consumption in worst condition of sunshine increases $67\%$ on the best condition of sunshine.

  • This paper presents the results of a case study of a dispute for the damage of the right to sunshine between B and W Apartment Complex in the N city. Recently a number of disputes for the right to sunshine increase in urban areas because the residents' demand for pleasant residential environment is getting stronger. In particular, problems related to sunshine, which were not recognized during the construction, have come up to the surface over time as people's concern over residential environment is growing. According to a recent interpretation of the right to sunshine in urban areas, moreover, there have been a series of legal decisions starting that damage of the right to sunshine to neighboring apartments must be indemnified for even if the violating apartment was designed and constructed legitimately according to relevant construction laws applied when the building was constructed. Thus this study examined the effects and the scope of damage on the right to sunshine through a case study in order to provide basic materials necessary to rope with related civil affairs.

  • This study aims at analysing the daylight condition of the existing and the newly planned apartment complex due to the azimuth angle, and throughout that result, presenting the necessity of new concept of architectural law for apartment complex design in the matter of daylight condition. For this purpose selecting one apartment complex which showed typical shape of '=' or 'ㅁ', 3D daylight analysis was applied for the existing condition. And then after new complex was planned according to the architectural law, additional 3D analysis on the daylight with the various conditions were accomplished. This 3D analysis for daylight condition can give accurate results and design direction which are suitable for the new complex plan of apartment houses.
