  • This paper is to elucidate geographical implications of fieldwork activities of everyday-life space of students of an elementary teachers college. The students depended mainly on questionaries and interview for gathering data during fieldwork. They had difficulty in processing data to visual-spatial representation, i.e. map, tables, and diagrams. But they were favourable for appling their fieldwork experiences to teaching the elementary geography. This is viewed as an unique behavioral orientation or desirable attitudes of students of an elementary teachers college. On the basis of the self-assessment and peer-assessment of fieldwork activities, it could be ascertained that the students came to understand the geographical value and significance of fieldwork activities. The fieldwork activities made them to heighten their interest of everyday-life space, and so to internalize positive their senses of place, to enforce their identities of place. According to the results of this research, we need to develop a systemic contents for fieldwork activities in geography curriculum of elementary teachers colleges.

  • Objectives. The purpose of this investigation was to study the correlation between cognitive impairment and activities of daily living(ADL) In the elderly of rural area. Methods. The study population consisted of 210 elderly people aged 65 years and older, living in a district of Kyongju City. The cognitive impairment was measured with the Korean version of mini-mental state examination(MMSE-K) and newly constructed the Korean version of mini-mental state examination (K-MMSE). Bristol activities of dally living scale developed specifically to be used with people with dementia was used to measure ADL Results. The mean scores of both MMSE-K and K-MMSE were significantly different by sex groups and by .age groups, respectively(p<0.05). The mean scores of ADL were significantly different by age groups(p<0.01) not by sex groups. Among the 4 components of ADL(instrumental activities of daily living(IADL), self care, orientation, and mobility), the mean score of the orientation was significantly higher in men(p<0.01); and IADL, orientation and mobility components were significantly different by age groups(p<0.01). ADL correlated well with MMSE-K (r=0.54) and K-MMSE(r=0.52) and showed higher correlation in female (r=0.73, 0.71) than male(r=0.27, 0.29). IADL and orientation showed significant correlation with MMSE-K(r=0.52, 0.62) and K-MMSE(r=0.50, 0.63), respectively(p<0.01). Conclusions. In developing and establishing a care model for people with dementia in the community, both cognitive impairment and the activities of daily living(ADL) need to be considered.

  • This study developed a occupational therapy convergent activity program to provide dementia patients admitted to the daytime ward, and investigated the program's effect on the hand and cognitive functions and instrumental activities of daily living. A total of 34 dementia patients were divided into two groups: a convergent occupational therapy program and medication were provided for 17 patients, and medication alone was provided for a control group of 17. The intervention was performed for 24 weeks, 8 times per week, 192 times in total. A handgrip strength test was performed to examine hand function before and after the intervention, and the MMSE-K and GDS were performed to evaluate cognitive function. In addition, the K-IADL was used to assess instrumental activities of daily living. With intervention, the experimental group showed significant improvements in hand and cognitive function and instrumental activities of daily living. In contrast, the control group did not show improvements in hand and cognitive function or instrumental activities of daily living. In conclusion, the study showed that a convergent/integrated activity program for occupational therapy has a positive effect on hand and cognitive function as well as instrumental activities of daily living.

This study firstly set up the population as the Korean elderly who were aged over 65 and living at Seoul as of 2009, 300 persons were chosen by sampling. The numbers, used in actual analysis is leisure sports' activities participant 162, non participant 128. total 300. The statistics method utilized in this study for analyzing the collected data were ANCOVA analysis, multiple regression analysis, path analysis. Activities of daily living reliability is $\alpha$=.876 above and successful aging reliability is $\alpha$=.807 above. The conclusions of this study were as being follows. First, according to the experience of in leisure sports' activities of older adults, it was not difference between the activities of daily living. Secondly, the experience of in leisure sports' activities of older adults had positive effect on successful aging. Thirdly, more intensity of in leisure sports' activities of older adults, had positive effect on instrumental activities of daily living. Fourth, more frequency and intensity of in leisure sports' activities of older adults, had positive effect on social successful aging, more frequency and period(time) of participated in leisure sports' activities of older adults, had positive effect on psychological social successful aging. Finally, the degree of in leisure sports' activities of older adults, had direct or indirect positive effect on activities of daily living and successful aging.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of mental practice about functional performance of affected limb to unilateral neglect and ADL(Activities of Daily Living) in person with stroke. A single subject experimental research with ABA design was employed in this study. The experiment formed 18 sessions in total: 5 sessions for baseline, 10 sessions for mental practice treatment, and 3 sessions for the second baseline. Mental practice was composed of performing 3 functional activities(dressing clothes, make-up with materials and arrangement, folding clothes). It took 5 minutes at once and 15 minutes in total daily. The unilateral neglect was measured by reading test, writing test, and Baking Tray Task. ADL was assessed by COPM. The results indicated that unilateral neglect test scores were all reduced, and the score of COPM was clinically significant. Mental practice for performing of functional activities was effective method to reduce unilateral neglect and improve ADL in person with stroke.

  • This research reviewed the instrumental ADL for patients with mild cognitive impairment, which is one of the most interested topics, and hope that this research helps evaluating and treating the mid cognitive impairment patients in occupational therapy. The treatment for dementia patients are actively in progress, but there has not been treatment approach about mild cognitive impairment patients, who are in risk of moving on to dementia. In this review, we have dealt with the foundation of matching the point to instrumental ADL from the occupational areas of mild cognitive impairment patients and normal elders. We have discussed the that essential consideration about instrumental ADL is needed to prevent mild cognitive impairment developing into dementia. In conclusion, there is a need of regular evaluation about instrumental ADL considering the occupational areas of mild cognitive impairment patient groups, who are highly in risk of developing into dementia, and occupational therapeutic approach is needed as well.

  • The aim of this study is to identify the influence of low back pain experienced by emergency room (ER) nurses and the mediating effect of impairments in the activities of daily living (ADL). The subjects of the study were 188 clinical nurses employed in emergency rooms at high-level hospitals in Daegu and Gyeongsangbuk-do. The collected data were analyzed using a program called SPSS 22.0, and the methods used include descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson correlation analysis, and regression analysis. The results of the study are as follows: First, low back pain in emergency room nurses positively correlated with impairments in the ADL and depression. Impairments in the ADL also positively correlated with depression. Second, low back pain in ER nurses influenced their depression, which was found to be mediated by the ADL.

  • The purpose of this study was to analyzed the correlation between upper extremity function, activities of daily living, quality of life and therapeutic flow in stroke clients and identify the factors influencing therapeutic flow. Total 249 stroke patients from 13 hospitals were measure at therapist and researcher for upper extremity function, activities of daily living, therapeutic flow and quality of life. Factors that affect the quality of life correlation as s result of positively correlated with upper extremity function(r=.312, p<.001), activities of daily living(r=.605, p<.001), therapeutic flow(r=.525, p<.001). And the effect on quality of life in stroke clients variables affecting therapeutic flow(${\beta}=.344$, p<.001), activities of daily living(${\beta}=.293$, p<.05) and Time since of onset(${\beta}=.145$, p<.05) were the order of analysis. The regression model explained 35.9% of variances(F=35.736, p<.001). Therefore, it was found that therapeutic flow in stroke clients is an important factor for quality of life, future therapeutic flow study will continue to be needed.
