Analysis on the Heat-resisting Coating of High Heat-resisting/Smoke Retardancy Fireproof Fabrics and Products (고내열/차연성 방화제품의 내열 코팅에 관한 연구)

  • 현대사회에서 화재에 의한 물적 피해는 물론 인적피해가 현저하게 증가하고 있으며 희생자의 사망원인이 종래에는 화재시 발생한 열에 의한 화상을 중심으로 하는 소사였지만, 최근에는 화염보다 독성가스로 인하여 사망하는 경우가 많아졌고, 희생자는 거의 화상을 확인할 수 없거나 화상자이더라도 혈액 중에서 일산화탄소를 중심으로 한 유독가스가 확인되기 때문에 이들 유독가스의 흡입으로 인하여 행동불능상태 이후 열의 영향으로 사망한 것으로 추정되는 사례가 증가하는 추세이다. 따라서 대규모 건축물에 있어서는 화재발생시 유독가스가 건물 전체로 연소 확대되는 것을 방지하기 위하여 넓은 면적을 일정한 면적으로 구획하거나 계단실 등과 다른 부분 또는 층별 등으로 구획하고 있으며, 국내의 방화구획은 크게 다른 층으로 화재전파를 막기 위한 층간 방화구획, 연소면적을 제한하기 위한 면적별 방화구획, 다른 용도로 인한 화재 위험성 감소를 위해 용도별 방화구획으로 3가지를 법에서 채택하고 있다. 방화구획은 방화문 또는 자동방화셔터를 이용하거나, 내부구조의 바닥, 벽, 각종 방화문으로 구획할 것을 정하고 있다.(피난방화규칙 제14조) 본 연구에서는 철제방화셔터 대체용으로 직물방화셔터용의 실리카 소재를 이용하여 제직한 직물에 내열/차연 기능성 코팅의 공정 조건을 변화하여 최종 방화시험을 거치기 전 내열성 테스트중 하나인 불꽃열 통과량 실험을 실행하여 방화 직물의 내열성을 비교 분석하였다. 이러한 결과를 토대로 본 연구는 고내열/차연성 방화 제품 기술을 개발하는데 필요한 연구를 수행하는데 목적이 있다.

A Study on the Toxic Gases Released from Fire Retardant Finishing Materials (가스검지관법에 의한 방염시료의 연소가스 독성평가)

  • 본 연구는 방염성능시험에 의한 필름 및 도료처리 시료를 대상으로 화재 시 발생하는 연소가스 중의 독성에 대하여 NES 713 방법에 의해 분석하고, 독성지수를 확인함으로써 연소 시 인체에 미치는 영향을 간접적으로 확인해 보고자 하였다. 기존 방염제품 중 필름과 도료처리 그리고 도료처리 후 기간이 경과한 시료의 3가지로 실험군을 구분하였으며, NES 713 방법으로 연소가스를 분석하고 독성지수를 평가하였으며, 추가로 기존의 국내 노출기준과의 비교를 수행하였으며, 국내 NES 713 방법을 활용한 선행연구들을 참조하였다. 발암가능 추정물질인 아크릴로니트릴은 총 18개의 시료에서 검출되었으며, 포름알데히드는 9개의 시료에서 검출되었다. 염화수소와 브롬화수소는 각각 5개의 시료들에서 검출된 반면에 도료처리된 시료에서는 각각 1개만이 검출되었다. 그 외 일산화탄소와 이산화탄소 그리고 질소산화물은 모든 시료에서 공통적으로 검출되었다. 독성지수는 최소 3.5에서 최고 9.4의 값을 갖는 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구에서 수행한 NES 713 분석결과와 독성지수 산출 및 기존 국내 노출기준과의 비교를 수행해 본 결과는 다음과 같았다. 첫째, 현행 국내 기준 상 방염제품의 독성시험 등에 관한 기준이 없고, 둘째, 방염제품에 대한 연소가스 독성 등을 평가한 선행연구가 제한적이라는 점에서 의미가 있을 것으로 사료된다. 하지만 독성지수의 적용이 국내에서 이루어지고 있지 않은 현실에서 산출도나 독성지수의 위해정도를 평가하기 어렵고, 시료의 수량이 총 18개로서 많지 않았다는 점에서 전체 방염제품의 연소가스 독성의 잠재적인 위험성을 추정할 수는 있지만 대표성을 갖기에는 문제점이 있다는 한계성을 벗어날 수 없었다. 따라서 향후 후속 연구에서는 보다 많은 방염제품들을 대상으로 무작위 선정을 통한 연구 설계 및 실험 연구가 수행된다면 보다 객관적이고 대표성을 지닌 연구결과를 도출할 수 있을 것으로 기대한다.

  • In the era of energy climate, IGCC technology is one of the powerful solutions for the demands of new energy with low carbon green growth. The present study is conducted to investigate the combustion characteristics of syngas from the coal gasifier to predict problems when it is fed to the gas turbine. Through high and low combustion tests, we understood that hydrogen is the main reason of NOx emission but easily controled by injecting the dilution of nitrogen. CO emission of syngas was comparable with that of methane and pressure fluctuation of syngas was not significant. The data from this study will be used for the optimization of combustion in the Korea first IGCC plant in 2015.

  • Since $CO_2$ emissions are recognized as the biggest contribution to climate change, the needs and international efforts for $CO_2$ emissions reduction are increasing. The developed countries are driving strategies to boost green industry as a new growth engine. Following this global trend, based on the ongoing U-City project as a new city model, it is required to analyze the changes of $CO_2$ emissions in U-City to identify its potential for reducing carbon dioxide emissions. This study aims at identifying the potential and effects on $CO_2$ reduction by analyzing the level of $CO_2$ emissions before and after introducing U-City. Bundang-Gu, Seongnam-City & Ilsan-Gu, Goyang-City among Phase I new tow ns were selected as model cities before introducing U-City and Dongtan-Dong, Hwaseong-City as a model city after introducing U-City. The result showed 30% reduction of $CO_2$ emissions in the comparison of tw o models.

  • A fire in a subway station platform, completely isolated by screen doors, was numerically simulated to investigate problems in smoke control and find their countermeasures. A part of the platform, $40m{\times}5m$ floor and 3 m high, and a fire of 1 MW were considered, and the smoke extraction system was assumed to start operation at the onset of the fire. For three different values of the exhaust air flow rate, 0.1, 2, and $4m^3/min-m^2$, the distributions of temperature, concentrations of soot and carbon monoxide, and those of visibility were compared. The time-variations of the number of randomly distributed particles in the space were also investigated for the air flow rates to see the efficiency in smoke control. It was shown that smoke control takes time by lack of air supply. It was also confirmed that air supply from the railway to the platform at emergency is needed so that smoke is able to be controlled efficiently, and that opening the doors at the both ends of the platform is desirable until the fire is completely extinguished.

Preparation of Pt/porous Gold Electrode for CO Oxidation (CO 가스 산화를 위한 백금/다공성 골드 전극의 개발)

  • Management of gas safety is becoming important with increasing use of gas facilities. U-safety system is being promoted as part of national management of gas, and thus real-time and in-situ gas sensor should be developed. Detection method for When the gas sensor is installed in gas conduit, explosion may be likely, because hydrocarbon gases is usually used the difference of thermal resistance between reference and working electrode. Therefore, it is required to detect the hydrocarbons, such as $CH_4$ and CO, at room temperature via electrochemically catalytic reaction. In this study, Pt nanoparticle was doped on the porous gold powder by electrolytic plating method, and then it was used as catalytic electrode for CO oxidation. For Pt/PAu electrode, approximately 21% of CO conversion was obtained. It is noted that Pt/PAu electrode could be used to react the oxidation of hydrocarbon gases at room temperature via applying of external voltage.

A study on the Combustion Characteristics of Wall Paper (내장벽지의 연소특성에 관한 연구)

  • Combustion characteristics and toxicity of combustion gas of wallpaper samples were analyzed to evaluate the fire risk of wallpaper furnished in living space. In this study ash residue ratio was measured with high temperature electric furnace, and thermal analysis was carried out with TGA. Combustion time and smoke concentration were measured with cone heater and combustion gas analyzer. Smoke density of samples was measured using smoke chamber of ASTM E 662. The experimental results were showed as followings. Pyrolysis of silk wallpaper started at lower temperature compared to the other samples. It means that the silk wallpaper can be ignited at low heat flux and will have more fire risk than the others. Ignition time by radiation heat flux of silk wallpaper is shorter compared to the other samples, so evacuation time must be reduced. In the case of vinyl coated silk wall paper, carbon mono oxide concentration is the highest and the toxicity and damage effect to consciousness was stronger compared to the other samples. Smoke density of silk wall paper and fire retardant mixed coated silk wall paper were very high due to vinyl coating.

Analysis of statistical models on temperature at the Seosan city in Korea (충청남도 서산시 기온의 통계적 모형 연구)

  • The temperature data influences on various policies of the country. In this article, the autoregressive error (ARE) model has been considered for analyzing the monthly and seasonal temperature data at the northern part of the Chungcheong Namdo, Seosan monitoring site in Korea. In the ARE model, five meteorological variables, four greenhouse gas variables and five pollution variables are used as the explanatory variables for the temperature data set. The five meteorological variables are wind speed, rainfall, radiation, amount of cloud, and relative humidity. The four greenhouse gas variables are carbon dioxide ($CO_2$), methane ($CH_4$), nitrous oxide ($N_2O$), and chlorofluorocarbon ($CFC_{11}$). And the five air pollution explanatory variables are particulate matter ($PM_{10}$), sulfur dioxide ($SO_2$), nitrogen dioxide ($NO_2$), ozone ($O_3$), and carbon monoxide (CO). The result showed that the monthly ARE model explained about 39-63% for describing the temperature. However, the ARE model will be expected better when we add the more explanatory variables in the model.

Reduced-Scale Experiments of the Partial Smoke Extraction System in Tunnel Fires (풀화재를 이용한 터널화재 부분배연 모델실험)

  • Smoke extraction in tunnel fire is investigated experimently with thermal model. The object is a immersed tunnel, of which the partial extraction system exists between the tubes. The model tunnel is measured 12 m long, 0.5 m wide and 0.35 m high. The fire is simulated to pool fire and the size corresponds to full scale fire of 5 MW based on Froude modeling. The performance of partial extraction system is determined under two ventilations, natural and longitudinal ones. The results show that compared with longitudinal ventilation, the smoke extraction efficiency of natural ventilation is increased about 30% because of smoke stratification in tunnel. Also the efficiency is identical to the iso-thermal model. The results will be help for activation of the ventilation system in emergency such as in the event of tunnel fires.

A study of the HRR and fire propagation phenomena for the fire safety design of deep road tunnel (대심도터널 화재 안전 설계를 위한 승용차의 열방출률 및 화재전파 특성에 관한 연구)

  • The study performed an actual fire experiment in order to propose the heat release rate of automobile that is the most basic architectural element for the fire safety design in a tunnel, whose importance has been recognized as the underground traffic tunnels are planned in Korean metropolitan cities. The heat release rate of a van is measured by the large scale calorimeter, in which the law of oxygen consumption is applied, and the fire expansion characteristics in a tunnel by placing two passenger cars nearby one another in the tunnel. As the results, the heat release rate of the van was revealed to be 5.9 MW, and carbon monoxide was emitted 482 ppm at a maximum. In case of two passenger car experiment for the fire expansion characteristics, the adjacent car was ignited about 3 minutes 30 seconds after the fire occurrence, and the complete fire was developed after 15 minutes. The maximum heat release was 9 MW. The results from the actual fire experiment can be an important input data for future quantitative analysis as well as an element applicable to a tunnel disaster preventive equipment design.
