Studies on the Root Nodule Formation of Soybean Cultivars (재배대두의 근류형성에 관한 조사 연구)

  • Earliness of the nodule formation was significantly different among soybean varieties. The numbers of the nodules were much various due to the origins of the soybean varieties and the date of observation. The significant positive correlations were shown between the weight of nodule and soybean yield and also between the weight of nodules and number of nodules but the correlations among the other characters were not significant.

  • 지상부 생육상태는 일본 원시 표준액에 비해 농심 표준액에서 더 좋았으며, T/R 율은 일본 원시 표준액과 농심 표준액에서 유의차가 없었다. 또한 괴경형성시기는 Atlantic 품종이 일본 원시 표준액에 비해 농심 표준액에서 8일 늦었으며, 다른 품종들과 유의차를 보였다. 주당 괴경중량은 품종별, 양액조성별 유의차를 보였으며 Norchip 품종은 농심 표준액에서 주당 590g으로 가장 높았다. 반면 Gemchip 품종은 농심 표준액에 비해 일본 원시 표준액에서 2배 많았다.(중략)

  • This study was conducted to investigate the responses to photoperiod of some Korean rice cultivars at four levels of the day length, 10, 12, 14 and 16 hours. Generally the days to heading were reduced in the short day length. Japonica varieties seemed to have shorter basic vegetative growth phase and, were more sensitive to day length, while Japonica crossed Indica varieties showed longer basic vegetative growth phase and, were less sensitive to day length. All tested varieties could be classified into 19 ecotypes based on the periods of the basic vegetative growth phase and the sensitivity to day length.

Studies on the Growth of Excised Root between Indica- Japonica Hybrids and Japonica Type in Paddy Rice (통일형수도와 일본형수도에 있어서 종근.분리근의 생육에 관한 연구)

  • The experiments were carried out to compare the growth characteristics of excised seminal roots in Japonica type, Indica- Japonica hybrids and its parents. Based on the modified culture medium by Kawata et al., several levels of pH. sucrose and casamino acid were varied in the culture media. The excised root length at 27$^{\circ}C$ incubator was little different between Japonica type and Indica-Japonica hybrids, but at 30$^{\circ}C$ incubator the excised root elongation of Indica-Japonica hybrids was much better than that of Japonica type. The dry matter weight of excised root in Indica- Japonica hybrids was significantly heavier than in Japonica type at both 27 and 30$^{\circ}C$ incubators. The difference of dry root weight between Japonica type and Indica- Japonica hybrids was caused from the number of lateral roots, especially the root numbers of 25 cm length. The main and lateral seminal root growth of Japonica type grew best at the lot of 0.2 percent casamino acid. However, the lots of 0 and 0.2 percent casamino acid showed good results in the main and lateral excised root growth. respectively of Indica-Japonica hydrids. The growth of excised roots was better in Indica-Japonica hybrids than in Japonica type at even various levels of pH, sucrose and casamino acid. Between the parents of Indica - Japonica hybrids, the excised root growth of Indica type was more predominant than that of Japonica type, and the effect of casamino acid on the excised root growth in the formar was similar to that of Indica type. This result indicated that the growth characteristics of excised seminal roots in Indica Japonica hybrids were derived from the parent, Indica type.

  • This experiment was carried out to select adaptable winter wheat varieties to deep seeding for developing early maturing, cold tolerant, and high yielding varieties. Varieties adaptable to deep seeding had deep crown and cold tolerant or early maturing characteristics. Varieties which had deep crown at 6cm seeding depth were Namkwang, Wonkwang, Suweon #202, Milyang #5, Milyang #7, Kitagamigomugi, Norin # 4, J ukoku # 81, Sage, Blueboy, Expection, Oasis, C.I. 14034, Rossalka, Benhur, Biserka, Martonvasar-1, and Martonvasar-2.

  • To know the varietal differences of ethylene evolution, 55 rice varieties were tested at seedling stage. And, also, 6 rice varieties were tested the biosynthesis of ethylene production. The group of japonica varieties produced higher amount of ethylene than the indica and indica x japonica crossed varieties. The content of ACC in rice seedlings of japonica varieties was higher than in seedlings of indica and indica x japonica varieties. And, also, the conversion rate of mathionine and ACC to ethylene in seedling of japonica varieties was higher than in seedling of indica and indica x japonica varieties.

  • Forth soybean (Glycine max (L.) Merr.) cultivars were evaluated to determine the extent of crop injury caused by differential sensitivity of cultivars to two rates of alachlor, linuron, and metribuzin. Most cultivars were relatively tolerant of alachlor at 120 and 240g/10a and also linuron at 62.5 and 125g/10a. However, many cultivars were highly sensitive to metribuzin at 50 and 100g/10a. Some of the most sensitive cultivars were ‘Kyungnam 2’, ‘Toyosuzu’, ‘Noki 1’, ‘Iwade 2’, and ‘Hampton’. Metribuzin also showed a very narrow margin of safety to soybean cultivars.

  • Severe outbreak of necrotic. soybean mosaic virus. (SMV -N) strain has been observed on soybean (Glycine max) in the central northern pans of Korea. Thirty soybean cultivars developed from Korea. Japan, and USA were tested for the estimation of infection percentages and ratings at 4 different planting dates. SMV-N infection was decreased by delaying the planting dates, but no differences were observed in conmon mosaic virus. Most of the soybean cultivars developed in Korea, and Japan were more susceptible to SMV- N than the US developed cultivars. Infection ratings of SMV-N showed highly significant negative correlations with common SMV regardless of planting dates.

  • Korean wheat varieties were tested to evaluate quality characters and the degree of deterioration due to simulated rainfall treatment. The result indicated that old varieties were generally superior in milling, flour color and dough properties to new varieties. And the quality properties of Korean new varieties were not exceeded those of Japanese varieties.

임진왜란 때 들어왔다는 왜개자는 과연 한국 고추인가?

  • 여러 품종의 고추에 대한 자료를 통하여 생물학적으로 고추의 품종과 다양성(원산지의 다양성)을 확인하고 고문헌 상에서도 고추의 종류가 다양함을 확인하였다. 즉 우리가 사용하고 있는 고추는 생물학적으로 볼 때 남아메리카의 고추인 아히(Aji)가 될 수 없음이 분명해진다. 또한 우리나라에는 고추를 나타내는 '초(椒)' 가 예부터 있었으며 음식재료로 사용되고 있었음을 알 수 있다. 일본으로부터 들어왔다는 번초의 종류를 분석한 결과 임진왜란 때 일본으로부터 왜개자(또 다른 개자일 가능성도 있음)가 들어온 것은 사실임이 틀림없고 그 번초(왜개자)는 우리나라에 이미 존재하는 초(椒)(고추)와는 분명히 다른 종류의 고추 또는 초(椒)임이 확인되었다. 더군다나 번초를 남번초, 남만초, 당초, 당개자로 부르는 것으로 보아 이성우가 주장하는 남아메리카의 아히가 아님은 문헌적으로도 분명하다. 아울러 우리나라 고추도 임진왜란 때 일본으로 건너갔다는 일본문헌 역시 사실에 근거한 기록으로 보인다. 고추 품종의 다양성과 생물학적인 다양성을 인정하고 모든 고문헌에 나오는 기록을 보면 중국, 일본, 우리나라 문헌에 서로 상위되는 것이 없이 아무런 문제점이 없음을 보여주고 있다.
