Astilbe (Saxifragaceae) is a genus well known for its disjunctive distribution in Asia and eastern North America. In this study, we reconstructed a molecular phylogeny of the genus using the sequences of ITS regions of nuclear ribosomal DNA. A total of 17 species representing major lineage of Astilbe and closely related taxa were included in the phylogenetic analyses. We obtained a Bayesian phylogenetic tree in which Saxifragopsis was positioned as a sister group to Astilbe. The Japanese endemic species, A.platyphylla was the most basal lineage within the genus. This species is well known for its distinct morphological features such as unisexual flowers, apetaly, and calyx with 7-11 lobes. Two species, A. biternata, a New World representative of the genus, and A. rivularis widely distributed in S. Asia, branched off early in the evolution of Astilbe. The remaining species formed a strongly supported core clade, which diverged into two robust geographical lineages: the first ("Japonica" clade) of species distributed in Japan, Taiwan, and Philippines and the other ("Rubra" clade), of taxa in China and Korea. The ITS phylogeny indicates that the Bering land bridges were the major route for the origin and dispersal of A. biternata. The two Taiwanese taxa and A. philippinensis were found to derive from the Japanese member, as the genus advanced southwards. The ITS phylogeny suggests that apetaly originated independently at least two times within the genus. Our results do not support Engler's classification system of the genus based on the leaf type (simple vs. compound), but reaffirm Hara's taxonomic idea which primarily considered the features of calyx.

In a nationwide survey of the occurrence and density of the migratory locust (Locusta migratoria), high density was continuously observed in the reclaimed areas of Mangun-myeon in Muan-gun, Jeollanam-do, and Sanye-myeon in Haenam-gun, Jeollanam-do, Korea. We have analyzed the nucleotide sequences of NADH dehydrogenase subunit (NAD) 2, NAD4, and NAD5 genes in order to determine the origins of the migratory locusts at two sites. According to the analysis, the migratory locusts in Haenam-gun were closely related with those in Liaoning Province and Heilongjiang Province in the northeast China. In contrast, the migratory locusts in Muan-gun were most similar to those in Japan. Because Korean migratory locusts were not included in the previous global study on the evolution and migration of migratory locusts, we did not know the origin of Korean migratory locusts, earlier. Phylogenetic analyses this study suggested that the migratory locusts from the northeast Chinese population might have migrated and settled in Haenam-gun in Korea. Moreover, another northeast Chinese population might have migrated to Muan-gun in Korea though Sakhalin, Russia and Hokkaido, Japan. However, the possibility that the migratory locusts moved from northeast China might be isolated from each other in Korea, and that the Muan population might migrate to Japan cannot be excluded.

This paper examines the history of karate, its utilization as military training, and its value as a national defense sport. Originating from Okinawa, karate was introduced into Japanese military training in the modern era and spread worldwide. During World War II, the Japanese military intensified karate training for close-quarters combat. Post-war, karate was introduced to Western society through the U.S. military presence in Japan. In contemporary militaries, various martial arts, including karate, are utilized in training programs such as the U.S. Marine Corps Martial Arts Program (MCMAP) and the Israeli military's Krav Maga. These programs integrate techniques from karate, judo, boxing, and other martial arts to create systems optimized for real combat. In military education, karate enhances individual physical and mental capabilities and improves unit combat effectiveness. Rigorous training develops physical fitness, mental resilience, and practical skills for close-quarters combat. Group training fosters camaraderie and unit cohesion. However, due to the changing nature of modern warfare, it is necessary to reconsider the proportion and methods of martial arts training in military education. With the advancement of high-tech weaponry, team operations have become more critical than individual combat skills. Rather than applying traditional karate techniques unchanged, it is essential to modify and develop them to suit modern warfare. Nevertheless, the value of martial arts training, including karate, remains significant in cultivating key soldier qualities such as physical strength, indomitable spirit, and camaraderie. It is anticipated that militaries worldwide will continue to evolve their martial arts training systems in line with changing times.
Study population was described at the previously published paper(23). Body Mass Index of 10751, 5th grade students from nation-wide were calculated . From this distribution lowest 10% and highest 10% were selected as group 1 and group 5, respectively. In this paper, between group 1 and group 5 anthropometric data, demographic data and other health related factors were compared. 1) Using Japanese criteria for obesity, the prevalence for obesity at 5 th grade was 5.8% at nation wide and 7.8% at urban area. 2) The proportion of students who skipped breakfasts everyday was 5.8% of whole student surveyed and 8.4% for group 5. The proportion of students who took medicine for health was 29.4% for group and 22.5% for group 5. 3) The students who are at group 5 had larger height and weight velocity than other groups. Group 5 had large increase of BMI by increasing grade, but group 1 had almost no change. 4) In physical fitness examination, group 3 who mean BMI was in the highest class than other groups 5 was in low class.
The sweetpotato whiteflies, Bemisia tabaci(Gennadius), were found recently in Korea on Glycine max, Euphorbia pulcherrima, and Rosa hybrida. The biotype identity of Bemisia tabaci in Korea was determined by several DNA markers including the random amplified polymorphic DNAs, and restriction fragments length polymorphism of mitochondrial 12S and 16S rRNA genes. The electromorph profiles of DNA fragments from the rose(Jincheon) and poinsettia(Seoul) populations in Korea are both identical to those of B biotypes distributed in Australia, Israel, and Japan. The populations of B. tabaci collected on Glycine max, Ipomea batatas, and Perilla frutescens in different localities retained the same DNA markes with the population from Lonicera japonica and shikoku of Japan. These populations are non-B biotype and considered as an indigenous type in the Far Eastern Asia Region including Korea and Japan, Morphological Characteristics of B. Tabaci were also observed by the scanning electron microscope and described with the comparison to the other important whitefly pest, Trialeurodes vaporariorum (Westwood).
Diversity of endophytic fungi of two species associated with host plants, Pinus densiflora and Larix kaempferi in Mt. Oser were investigated. Endophytic fungi were isolated from surface sterilized leaves of the 13 host plants and identified by morphological traits and rDNA ITS sequences analysis. Totally 37 isolates were discovered and identified into 17 taxa. Of them, 59% isolates belonged to Leotiomycetes, 30% isolates Sordariomyetes, 8% isolates Dothideomycetes and 3% isolates Agaricomycetes. Results showed a similar diversity pattern with previous studies. Also, species diversity (H') of endophytic fungi isolated from L. kaempferi was higher than that from P. densiflora. The endophytic species composition showed significant differences between host plants. Particularly, taxon of Lophodermium is a major genus in the host plants. However, critical research of the endophytic species diversities within the genus in Korea is required. The communities of endophytic fungi isolated in this study showed differences in diversities and species composition between host plants.

Historically, the representation of the colonial period has responded closely to the policies and political conditions of the time. The Korean blockbuster , which links the genealogy of Manchuria Western, adopts a safe nationalism frame, upgrading the genre's narrative typology to colorful action and spectacle, including the Japanese army, the Liberation Army, the good and evil, and the confusion of identity. On the other hand, , which deals with the friendship of the poet and the warrior, treats the mental and internal struggles implied by the power of poetry, without resorting to familiar nationalism and heroism. is a thorough genre of rules. If the visual and sensual pleasures of imaginative resilience beyond the bounds of the law are provided within the Rules, inevitably seeks resistance within the colonial empire's legal system. Political, diplomatic, and economic conflicts between Japan and Korea, which have been continuing until recently, reaffirm the framework of nationalism on the screen.

Information Effluence leaks are caused by the wide use of the P2P program in Japan and Korea lead by the increase of internet use and network infrastructure expansion. This research confirms the seriousness of the data collected from the P2P leaks of the two countries and furthers its study by researching how countermeasures are applied. The effectiveness is verified by collecting data according to countermeasure applied periods. Both countries had information leaks, but in the case of Japan, not only personal information leaks but corporation, administrative agency, military, and others in a wide range as well. As a countermeasure against information effluence, Korea is enforcing counter plans mainly against the P2P service businesses and for Japan, various plans are taken such as business guides for each agency, organization management, SW development and supply, HW supply, and ect. The leaks in Japan were more severe than the ones in Korea but they had well planned countermeasures that were applied. Therefore if the Japanese countermeasure on information effluence of P2P programs is taken as a lesson, Korea can prevent the problem of leaks beforehand.
The immunogenicity of investigational combined vaccine, composed of the Japanese encephalis virus(JEV) and the polysaccharide capsule(Vi) of Salmonella typhi covalently bound to tetanus toxoid(TT) was evaluated in mice. The mice immunized with combined vaccine elicited higher anti-Vi Immunoglobulin G(IgG) as well as anti-JEV IgG levels than the mice immunized with Vi-TT or JEV alone. The combined vaccine produced four-fold increase in anti-Vi IgG level than Vi-TT alone. In JEV the combined vaccine was significantly more immunogenic than JEV alone and induced six-fold increase in IgG level. Adsorption of combined vaccine onto aluminium hydroxide gel also enhanced IgG level for both Vi and JEV.
This study was carried out to classify forest vegetation structure of Sobaeksan National Park from May to October in 2008 using the methodology of the ZM school's phytosociological analysis. The forest vegetation was classified into 1 community groups such as Quercus mongolica community group. Quercus mongolica community group was subdivided into 3 community such as Pinus densiflora community, Acer barbinerve community and Cornus controversa community. Pinus densiflora community was subdivided into Quercus variabilis group and Tilia amurensis group. Acer barbinerve community was also subdivided into Salix hallaisanensis group and Betula ermani group(subdivided into Taxus cuspidata subgroup and Betula ermani typical subgroup). Artificial forest type indicated 2 communities such as Larix leptolepis community and Pinus koraiensis community. Accordingly, the vegetation pattern of the surveyed areas were classified into 1 community groups, 5 communities, 4 groups, and 2 subgroups and the forest vegetation was classified into 8 units in total. The vegetation unit distributions was strongly correlated with sea level and topography in this research area.
