This study is to analyze the application of the oyster shells as a substitute fine aggregate of concrete. For this purpose, the fundamental experiments of the composed materials and the variations of the main factors on it were considered and then the variations of workability and strength properties of the specimens with each case were also studied. The experimental results on the properties as construction material showed that the use of oyster shells in concrete would not cause abnormal chemical reactions or lead to the formation of any new objects, the workability and strengths decreased with increase in proportion of oyster shells. The compressive strength of concrete with oyster shells is developed as much as that of normal concrete and the grain size of oyster shells is superior on 3.0~5.0mm and the percentage of substitution of them to fine aggregate about 30% from the properties of concrete with them. The relationship equation between compressive strength and tensile strength is ( ).

Fine recycled-concrete aggregates(RCAs) instead of natural sand were tested for a foundation material under sewage conduit system, which was evaluated based on foundation settlement at various conditions. To obtain this applicability of RCAs, the settlement behavior was simulated with FLAC program based on the difference of material properties, and immediate settlement behaviors and the change of material properties under the simulated drainage conditions also tested at the various loading conditions in the laboratory. Finally, large-scale settlement test in the field was conducted to prove the above feasibilities. Subsequently, the amount of settlement from the FLAC simulation was calculated under $5.0{\times}10^{-6}\;m$ and the extent of settlement and property changes (porosity, permeability and waster absorption) was not noticeable from the laboratory experiments. Also, settlement monitoring from the field experiment showed the consistent results with laboratory experiments except for the consolidation settlement(=5 mm) of the round below the foundation. In summary, adopting fine RCAs as a foundation material for sewage conduit system was resonable based of geotechnical point of view.

The quantities of heavy weight waste glass have been progressively increased because of the rapid industrialization and the change of quality of life. And, the most of them are not recycled. The heavy weight waste glass have been treated by illegal dumping or being buried in landfills. Meanwhile, in order to ensure the safety of nuclear power plant structure, the excellent construction materials are socially required for shielding performance. Concrete is the most widely used construction material, the huge amounts of natural resources are required to make concrete. So, it is needed to investigate the possibility of recycling of heavy weight waste glass as concrete material ingredient. In this study, the heavy weight waste glass was evaluated for the applicability as fine aggregate of shielding concrete. From the results, when heavy weight waste glass was replaced as fine aggregate of mortar, shielding performance can be improved due to increasing in unit weight of mortar. It showed that the strength decreased according to mixing of heavy weight waste glass, Non-Washed heavy weight waste glass is more advantageous in the strength development than Washed case.

As a solution of both environmental issue of reducing carbon dioxide emission and sustainable issue of exhausting natural resources, in concrete industry, many research on recycling various by-products or industrial wastes as the concrete materials has been conducted. The aim of this research is feasibility analysis of additional reaction with ordinary Portland cement and flue gas desulfurization gypsum based on the blast furnace slag and recycled fine aggregate based mortar to achieve the normal strength range. Consequently, in the case of mortar replaced 10% FGD and 30% OPC for BS, 80% of plain OPC mortar's compressive strength was achieved. Furthermore, when the water-to-binder ratio is decreased to keep the practically similar level of flow, it is expected to be achieve the equivalent compressive strength to plain OPC mortar.
The purpose of this research is to obtain a practical expression for the estimation of compressive strength of concrete using non-destructive testing method such as rebound Schmidt hammer and ultrasonic pulse

The objective of this study is to examine the reproducibility for compressive strength development and mechanical properties of lightweight concrete made using bottom ash aggregates and foam(LWC-BF). Based on the mix proportions conducted by Ji et al., six identical mixes were prepared with different actual foam volume ratios from 0% to 25% and water-to-binder ratios from 25% to 30%. The presently measured properties, including initial slump, slurry density, compressive strength gains at different ages, splitting tensile strength, and modulus of rupture, were very close to those determined in the previous tests by Ji et al. Thus, the developed LWC-BF has a good potential in obtaining a reproducibility for compressive strength development and mechanical properties even though the troubles of mixing control owing to the addition of preformed foam.

This is an experimental study on the properties and the strength development of concrete using of the oyster shells as a substitute fine aggregate of concrete. For this purpose, the fundamental experiments of the materials and the main factors on it were considered and then the workability and many kinds of strength about the specimens were also studied. As the experimental results, there were strength differences of less than 10% between concrete with oyster shells and normal and the most excellent grain size of oyster shells is 5.0mm and less with taking uniformly and the percentage of practicable substitution of them to fine aggregate about 30%. This paper also represents the relationship equations among many kinds of strength and elastic modulus of concrete with the oyster shells decreased with increase in proportion of oyster shells and curve of it is similar about the percentage of substitution of 10%.
In this study alkali reactivity of crushed stone was conducted according to the ASTM C 227 that is traditional mortar bar test, and C 1260 that is accelerated mortar bar test method. The morphology and chemical composition of products formed in mortar bar, 3 years after the mortar bar tests had been performed, were examined using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) with secondary electron imaging (SEI) and electron probe microanalysis (EPMA) with backscattered electron imaging (BSEI). The crushed stone used in this study was not identified as being reactive by ASTM C 227. However, mortar bars exceeded the limit for deleterious expansion in accelerated mortar bar test used KOH solution. The result of SEM (SEI) analysis, after the ASTM C 227 mortar bar test, confirmed that there were no reactive products and evidence of reaction between aggregate particles and cement paste. However, mortar bars exposed to alkali solution (KOH) indicated that crystallized products having rosette morphology were observed in the interior wall of pores. EPMA results of mortar bar by ASTM C 227 indicated that white dots were observed on the surface of particles and these products were identified as Al-ASR gels. It can be considered that the mortar bar by ASTM C 227 started to appear sign of alkali-silica reaction in normal condition. EPMA results of the mortar bar by ASTM C 1260 showed the gel accumulated in the pores and diffused in to the cement matrix through cracks, and gel in the pores were found to be richer in calcium compared to gel in cracks within aggregate particles. In this experimental study, damages to mortar bars due to alkali-silica reaction (ASR) were observed. Due to the increasing needs of crushed stones, it is considered that specifications and guidelines to prevent ASR in new concrete should be developed.
Generally, when using copper slag mixed into the concrete, due to higher weight of copper slag, a reduction in the compressive strength and durability of the hardened concrete to increased bleeding is caused. In this study, hence copper slag, a kind of by-product was used as an alternative to the fine aggregate, it was carried out in combination with the use of fly ash in eliminating disadvantage and recycling aspects. As a result of this study, the mixing of fly ash is decreased in the 50% of bleeding, 5% of drying shrinkage, 30% of carbonation test and improvement of 10% of compressive strength than that of copper slag only at most.

Plasticity of clay bodies containing bottom ashes(BA) and small portion of other wastes was investigated. Plasticity indices of clay bodies using Atterberg limits were measured. It was confirmed that the plasticity indices could be applicable in actual forming process by extrusion. The forming possible compositions were found by changing the contents of water, bottom ash, stone dust, and sewage sludge. The relationship between the plasticity and physical properties of the aggregate green body was also investigated. The compositions for extrusion forming can be expected by measured the plasticity indices and these results were confirmed by real extrusion process. There is also strong relationship between the plasticity indices and the property of aggregate green body.
