  • In this paper, we provide a suitable optimal exponent in the generalized Pythagorean theorem and propose to use the logistic model & the probit model to estimate the winning rate in Korean professional baseball league. Under a criterion of root-mean-square-error (RMSE), the efficiencies of the proposed models have been compared with those of the Pythagorean theorem. We use the team historic win-loss records of Korean professional baseball league from 1982 to the first half of 2015, and the proposed methods show slight outperformances over the generalized Pythagorean method under the criterion of RMSE.

  • So far, around 370 various verification of Pythagorean Theorem have been introduced and many studies for the analysis of the method of verification are being conducted based on these now. However, we are in short of the research for the study of the generalization for Pythagorean Theorem. Therefore, by abstracting mathematical materials that is, data(lengths of sides, areas, degree of an angle, etc) which is based on Euclid's elements Vol 1 proposition 47, various methods for the generalization for Pythagorean Theorem have been found in this study through scrutinizing the school mathematics and documentations previously studied.

  • In this study, we investigated whether the theorem is established even if we replace a 'square' element in the Euclidean proof of the Pythagorean theorem with different figures. At this time, we used different figures as equilateral, isosceles triangle, (mutant) a right triangle, a rectangle, a parallelogram, and any similar figures. Pythagorean theorem implies a relationship between the three sides of a right triangle. However, the procedure of Euclidean proof is discussed in relation between the areas of the square, which each edge is the length of each side of a right triangle. In this study, according to the attached figures, we found that the Pythagorean theorem appears in the following three cases, that is, the relationship between the sides, the relationship between the areas, and one case that do not appear in the previous two cases directly. In addition, we recognized the efficiency of Euclidean proof attached the square. This proving activity requires a mathematical process, and a generalization of this process is a good material that can experience the diversity and rigor at the same time.

  • In school mathematics, activities to make particular convex polygons by attaching edgewise some pieces of tangram are introduced. This paper focus on deepening these activities. In this paper, by using Pick's Theorem and 和 草's method, all the convex polygons by attaching edgewise seven pieces of tangram, Sei Shonagon(淸少納言)'s tangram, and Pythagoras puzzle are found out respectively. By using Pick's Theorem to the square seven-piece puzzles satisfying conditions of the length of edge, it is showed that the number of convex polygons by attaching edgewise seven pieces of them can not exceed 20. And same result is obtained by generalizing 和 草's method. The number of convex polygons by attaching edgewise seven pieces of tangram, Sei Shonagon's tangram, and Pythagoras puzzle are 13, 16, and 12 respectively.
