  • The purpose of map generalization is a method of map making to transmit the concise cartographic representation and geographic meaning. New generalization algorithm has been developed to be applied in the digital environments by the development of computer cartography. This study aims to look into possibilities of the multiscale mapping by generalization in application with the coordinate transformation and LoD(level of detail) in the web cartography. A method of the coordinate transformation is to improve a transmission of spatial data. Lod is a method which is making web map with selection spatial data by zoom level of users. Layers for test constructed contour line, stream network, the name of a place, a summit of mountain, and administrative office. The generalization was applied to zoom levels by scale for the linear and polygonal features using XML-Based scalable vector graphics(SVG). Resultantly, storage capacity of data was minimized 41% from 9.76mb to 4.08mb in SVG. Generalization of LoD was applied to map elements by stages of the zoom level. In the first stages of zoom level, the main name of places and administrative office, higher order of stream channels, main summit of mountain was represented, and become increase numbers of map elements in the higher levels. Results of this study can help to improve esthetic map and data minimization in web cartography, and also need to make an efforts to research an algorithm on the map generalization over the web.

  • Using the 1st to 5th wave data from Gyeonggi Education Panel Study(GEPS), this study analyzed the change of school effectiveness of middle schools by innovation school expansion in Gyeonggi province. For this purpose, the analysis employed difference-in-difference model with repeated cross-sectional data and the dependent variable was comprised of academic achievement, school satisfaction, creativity, and sense of community. Results showed that the effectiveness of innovation schools had not significantly different from general schools before innovation school expansion but significantly improved in academic achievement and school satisfaction compared to general schools after the policy applied. On the other hand, the school effectiveness in creativity and sense of community not significantly different between innovation and general schools in both before and after. As time passes, the effectiveness of existing innovation schools in the academic achievement was improved and the school satisfaction was maintained. In addition, the effectiveness in satisfaction of the schools was improved as general schools with high effectiveness in academic achievement were transformed into innovation schools. Based on the results, the policy for innovation school expansion was evaluated and the issues related to this policy were discussed.

  • While numerous studies have empirically investigated user behavior in LIS research community, less research has attempted to examine such studies in methodological perspective. Reflecting this, relevant studies have suggested the need to develop methodological framework for such studies. This study conducted content analyses of user behavior studies recently published in JASIST and analyzed factors which affect the external validity of result of such researches. The findings revealed various types and cases related to the generalization of the study results. Based on these, a methodological framework for user behavior studies were suggested.

  • National Geographic Institute recently has produced a national paper map by means of a computer aided editing system using a national digital map 2.0. However, the map generalization should be made due to the portrayal difference between the digital map and the paper one and the criterion of the map generalization should be determined by the visual image. The tolerance limit of the map generalization has to be decided based on human vision. For this purpose, this study attempts to measure the size of the building on various scale map and then analyze its result. As a consequence, this study shows us that the building size eligible for human vision should be over 0.4mm in the short side of building on the map. The tolerance limit of an isolated building, a reduced building and a densely built-up area for the map generalization is based on the criterion mentioned above.

  • One of the Repeated survey which estimates variability of population, we can be consider rotation sample survey. There are two kinds of rotation sample survey - onelevel rotation sample survey and multi-level rotation sample survey. In rotation sample survey, Composite estimator is used to measure level or level change of the population. This study suggests Generalized Composite estimator as considering intraclass correlation in multi-level rotation sample survey, and optimal weight minimizing variance of estimator. Numerical example shows efficiency of Generalized Composite estimator as considering intraclass correlation according to the sample unit and change degree of intraclass correlation in the rotation group.

  • This paper proposes the wafer position recognition algorithm using camera. First, for eliminating the image distortions caused by the illumination and the irregular camera position, the wafer image is restored as a circle through projective transformation. Next, we use edge detection algorithm to extract the wafer's edge and then apply Generalized Symmetry Transform(GST) to extract a circle. The GST evaluates symmetry between two points by combining a distance weight function, a phase weight function, and a logarithmic mapping of the points' intensities and detecting interest regions. Trough several experiments, we found out the proposed method is able to prevent the cleaning system and the wafer from damaging.

  • Census transform is one of the stereo vision methods which is robust to radiometric distortion and illuminance change. This paper proposes a hybrid census transform using the mini census transform and the generalized census transform concurrently. This method uses simplicity of mini census transform and noise feature of generalized census transform together. This paper performed stereo matching containing post processing to evaluate each methods. The result shows that hybrid census transform has similar performance to generalized census transform and mean value of calculation complexity between mini census transform and generalized census transform.

  • In this paper, we provide a suitable optimal exponent in the generalized Pythagorean theorem and propose to use the logistic model & the probit model to estimate the winning rate in Korean professional baseball league. Under a criterion of root-mean-square-error (RMSE), the efficiencies of the proposed models have been compared with those of the Pythagorean theorem. We use the team historic win-loss records of Korean professional baseball league from 1982 to the first half of 2015, and the proposed methods show slight outperformances over the generalized Pythagorean method under the criterion of RMSE.

  • In this paper, a new form of linear models referred to as generalized weighted linear models is proposed. The proposed models assume that the relationship between the response variable and explanatory variables can be modelled by a distribution function of the response mean and a weighted linear combination of distribution functions of covariates. This form addresses a structural problem of the link function in the generalized linear models in which the parameter space may not be consistent with the space derived from linear predictors. The maximum likelihood estimation with Lagrange's undetermined multipliers is used to estimate the parameters and resampling method is applied to compute confidence intervals and to test hypotheses.

  • Rainfall weather patterns have changed due to global warming and sudden heavy rainfalls have become more frequent. Economic loss due to heavy rainfall has increased. We study the generalized Pareto distribution for modelling rainfall in Seoul based on data from 1973 to 2008. We use several priors including Jeffrey's noninformative prior and Gibbs sampling method to derive Bayesian posterior predictive distributions. The probability of heavy rainfall has increased over the last ten years based on estimated posterior predictive distribution.
