An Application of Generalizability Theory to Self-introduction Letter and Teacher's Recommendation Letter Used in Identification of Mathematical Gifted Students by Observations and Nominations (관찰.추천에 의한 수학영재 선발 시 사용되는 자기소개서와 교사추천서 평가에 대한 일반화가능도 이론의 활용)

  • The purpose of this study is: 1) to determine error sources and the effects of each error source, 2) to investigate optimal measuring conditions from holistic and analytic scoring methods, and 3) to compare the value of reliability between Cronbach's alpha and the generalizability coefficient in self-introduction letter and teacher's recommendation letter based on the generalizability theory in identification of mathematical gifted students by observations and nominations. Data of this study were collected from the science education institute for the gifted attached to the university located within in a capital city for the 2011 academic year. Scores form two raters using holistic and analytic scoring methods in both assessment types were used. The results of this study were as follows. First, as to both assessment types, error sources for people were relatively large regardless of scoring methods. However, error sources for raters in holistic scoring methods had a more significant impact than those of analytic scoring methods. Second, to set optimal measuring conditions in the self-introduction letter and teacher's recommendation letter, if we fixed the number of raters into 2 based on holistic scoring methods, at least 5 and 10 content domains were needed, respectively. In addition, the number of items in teacher's recommendation letter should be more than 3 when we fixed the number of content domains into 4, and the number of items in self-introduction letter should be more than 8 when we fixed the number of content domains into 6 using analytic scoring methods. Third, Cronbach's alpha having only a single source of errors was higher than the generalizability coefficient regardless of assessment types and scoring methods. Hence we recommend that generalizability coefficient based on various error sources such as raters, content domains, and items should be considered to keep a satisfactory level of reliability in both assessment types.

  • This study aims to apply the Generalizability Theory (G-theory) for estimation of reliability of evaluation scores between raters on Patient Dentist Interaction. Selecting a number of raters as multiple error sources, this study was analyzed the error sources caused by relative magnitude of error variances of interaction between the factors and proceeded with D-study based on the results of G-study for optimal determination of measurement condition. The estimated outcomes of variance component for accuracy among the Patient Dentist Interaction evaluation with G-theory showed that impact of error was the biggest influence factor in students. The second influence was the item effect, and the rater effect was relatively small. The Generalizability coefficients for case1 and case2 which were estimated through the D- study were calculated relatively low.

Multigroup Generalizability Analysis of Creative Attitude Scale-Korea for Mathematically Gifted and General Students in Middle Schools (수학적 창의성 태도 검사에서 수학영재와 일반학생의 다집단 일반화가능도 분석)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the relative influence of multiple error sources and to find optimal measurement conditions that obtain a desired level of reliability of a creative attitude test in mathematical creativity. This study analyzed the scores of the Creative Attitude Scale-Korea allowed to access publicly of 125 general students and 109 mathematically gifted students by performing a multivariate generalizability analysis. The main results were as follows. First, based on reliability, the Creative Attitude Scale-Korea was measured less precisely for mathematically gifted students. On the contrary, based on the conditional standard error of measurement, it was measured less precisely for general students. However, the Creative Attitude Scale-Korea showed strong reliability in both groups. Second, the optimal weights should adjust to .3, .3, .4 in mathematically gifted students and .4, .4, .2 in general students with three scoring components of divergent attitude, problem solving attitude, and convergent attitude based on the maximum reliability. Third, to approach desirable reliability, it is possible to use one component of divergent attitude in general students but three components of divergent attitude, problem solving attitude, and convergent attitude in mathematically gifted students. Finally this study proposed application plans for the Creative Attitude Scale-Korea and future directions of research.

On Testing the First-order Autocorrelation of the Error Term in a Regression Model via Multiple Bayes Factor (다중 베이즈요인에 의한 회귀모형 오차항의 자기상관 검정)

  • 본 논문은 회귀분석에서 오차항의 1차 자기상관 존재 여부 및 그 값을 검정하는 방법을 베이지안 접근법으로 제안하였다. 이 방법은 모수공간의 다중분할로 인해 얻어진 여러 가설들에 대한 다중결정문제를 다중 베이즈요인에 관한 이론과 일반화 Savage-Dickey 밀도비를 이용한 사후확률 추정법을 합성하여 개발되었다. 이 방법은 기존의 검정법들에서 가능한 검정 뿐 아니라 이들이 해결할 수 없는 자기상관에 대한 다중결정문제에도 사용이 가능한데 그 효용성이 있다. 모의실험을 통하여 제안된 검정법의 유효성을 평가하였다.

Performance Evaluation of the Generalized Hough Transform (일반화된 허프변환의 성능평가)

  • The generalized Hough transform(GHough) can be used effectively for detecting and extracting an arbitrary-shaped 2-D model in an input image. However, the main drawbacks of the GHough are both heavy computation and an excessive storage requirement. Thus, most of the researches so far have focused on reducing both the time and space requirement of the GHough. But it is still not clear how well their improved algorithms will perform under various noise in an input image. Thus, this paper proposes a new framework that can measure the performance of the GHough quantitatively. For this purpose, we view the GHough as a detector in signal detection theory and the ROC curve will be used to specify the performance of the GHough. Finally, we show that we can evaluate the GHough under various noise conditions in an input image.

Generalizability Analysis of Teaching Aptitude and Personality Test for Pre-service Engineering Teachers in a Graduate School of Education (교육대학원 예비공학교사의 교직 적성·인성 검사에서 일반화가능도 분석)

  • This study examined the fairness of the teaching aptitude and personality test assigned to pre-service engineering teachers in a graduate school of education based on measurement traits. For this study, we analyzed the teaching aptitude and personality test scores of 99 students enrolled in engineering education in a graduate school of education located in the Seoul metropolitan area from 2013 to 2017. The main results were as follows. First, the estimated variance due to residual was generally the highest, followed by nesting of items within domains, pre-service engineering teachers, interactions of pre-service engineering teachers with domains, domains, and occasions. Second, dependability coefficients were better indicators than Cronbach's because the latter may have been overestimated by applying the traditional reliability coefficient in inappropriate manners. Third, the teaching aptitude and personality test can be applied to pre-service engineering teachers in a graduate school of education based on empirical evidence considering dependability coefficients. Fourth, a total of 96 items from the original 210 items, with 2 occasions and 12 domains containing 8 items in each domain, were optimal measurement conditions to reach adequate degrees of reliability based on the total number of items. Finally, the results were discussed, the study limitations described and future research directions proposed.

  • Dempster-Shafer 이론은 미지의 매개변수 추정시 베이지안 기법의 제약을 완화시키기 위한 베이지안 접근법의 일반화로 해석될 수 있으며, 상호배타적인 싱글톤에만 확률이 할당되는 것이 아니라 가능한 결과의 부분집합들이 기본확률할당을 위한 대상으로 고려된다. 베이지안 접근은 우연적 불확실성 및 지식의 불확실성을 효율적으로 구분할 수 없으며, 특정도가 낮고 애매한 증거들을 다룰 수 없는 반면, Dempster-Shafer 증거추론은 이러한 문제들을 효율적으로 평가할 수 있다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 홍수위험평가 및 수자원 계획 수립시 가장 기본이 되는 강우빈도해석에서 확률분포의 매개변수에 대한 불확실성 고려한 확률강우량의 산정 및 불확실성의 영향을 평가하기 위하여 Dempster-Shafer 이론을 이용하여 불확실성을 고려한 강우빈도해석모델 구축 및 적용을 통해 홍수위험평가 및 수자원 계획 등에 있어서 불확실성 표현 및 처리기법을 제시하였다.

Improved Result on the Pseudorandomness of SPN-type transformations (SPN 블록 암호 구조의 의사 난수성에 대한 향상된 결과)

  • Iwata et al. analyzed the pseudorandomness of the block cipher Serpent which is a SPN-type transformation. In this parer, we introduce a generalization of the results, which can be applied to any SPN-type transformation. For the purpose, we give several explicit definitions and prove our main theorems. We will also apply our theorems to several SPN-type transformations including Serpent, Crypton and Rijndael.

Investigation of Various Reliability Indices of Pre-service Mathematics Teachers' Teaching Aptitude and Personality Test based on Setting Cut Scores (예비수학교사의 교직 적성·인성 검사에서 분할점수 변화에 따른 다양한 신뢰도 탐색)

  • The purpose of this study is first to examine the relative influence of each error source and to investigate the optimal measurement conditions to ensure satisfactory multiple reliability coefficients based on the teaching aptitude and personality test for pre-service teachers. Participants were 33 students enrolled in mathematics education in a graduate school of education located in the Seoul metropolitan area from 2013 to 2017. The main results were as follows. First, the estimated variance due to residual was highest, followed by nesting of items within domains, graduate students, interactions of graduate students with domains, and domains. Second, total 96 items, with 12 domains containing 8 items in each domain, with cut score of 598, and original 210 items, with 14 domains containing 15 items in each domain, with cut scores of 615 or 716 were optimal measurement conditions to reach acceptable reliability levels based on the joint consideration of dependability coefficients, cut score dependability coefficients, adjusted dependability coefficients, and standard errors of measurement. Third, larger deviations between the arithmetic mean and the cut score indicated higher reliability coefficients of the test results. Finally, this study suggests ways for practitioners to consider how to apply generalizability theory for criterion-referenced tests and how to develop future research based on limitations.

New Maximum Likelihood Estimation Algorithms for the Parameters of Generalized Gravity Model (일반화중력모형 파라메터의 새로운 최우추정기법 개발)

  • 본 논문에서는 최근에 소개된 일반화중력모형(Generalized Gravity Model)파라메터의 최우추정치(Maximum Likelihood Estimates) 계산을 위한 새로운 알고리즘을 이론적으로 도출하였다. 개발된 알고리즘은 첫째 계산속도, 둘째 정밀도, 셋째 모형변수(예컨데 통행시간, 통행비용 등)들 간에 공선성(multicolinearity)이 존재할 경우의 계산능력, 넷째 대규모 스케일의 기.종점자료(large O-D Matrices)에 적용시의 계산능력, 다섯째 모형변수의 개수에 따른 계산능력의 평가기준에서 그 계산실적이 기존의 알고리즘과 비교 평가 되었다. 제안된 기법중에서 Modified Scoring 기법은 계산속도 및 정밀도등 앞서 나열한 계산능력의 평가기준 중 모든 부문에서 매우 탁월한 계산실적을 보이는 것으로 판명되었다. 따라서 최선의 추정치를 보장하는 최우추정기법이 대규모 스케일의 교통계획 적용에도 큰 비용(시간)부담없이 손쉽게 적용될 수 있게 되었다. 제안된 새로운 알고리즘의 적용시 교통계획분야에 가져올 수 있는 기대효과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 최우추정법이 대규모 O-D 통행표에 쉽게 적용될 수 있고 또한 PC등 소형 컴퓨터에서도 처리가 쉽다. 둘째, 모형설명변수의 자유로운 선택등 통계적실험(experimentation)을 가능케 한다. 셋째, 중력모형이 내재되어 있는 결합모형(Combined Model)의 정산속도를 높인다. 넷째, IVHS(Intelligent Vehicle and Highway System)와 같은 분야에서 온라인(On-line)모형정산을 가능케 할 수 있다.
