  • This study was conducted to evaluate the growth and nutrient dynamics in response to fertilization of four tree species (LT: Liriodendron tulipifera L.; PY: Prunus yedoensis Matsumura; QA: Quercus acutissima Ca rruth; a nd PT: Pinus thunbergii Parl.) planted in a fire-disturbed urban forest in Bongdaesan (Mt.), Ulsan Metropolitan Area, South Korea. The trees were planted in 2009, and compound fertilizers (N6P4K1) were applied in April 2013 and March 2014. Tree growth, soil, and foliage nutrients were examined from March 2013 to October 2016. The regression coefficients for the increment of the diameter at breast height (DBH) significantly differed between the fertilized and unfertilized plots, suggesting the significant effects of fertilization. By contrast, fertilization did not affect the coefficients for height increments. Regarding soil nutrient contents, organic carbon and total nitrogen concentrations were lower in the fertilized plots than in the unfertilized plots, whereas available phosphorus, exchangeable calcium, and magnesium concentrations were higher in the fertilized plots than in the unfertilized plots. In foliage, nitrogen and phosphorus concentrations were higher in the fertilized plots than in the unfertilized plots, whereas potassium, calcium, and magnesium concentrations were not affected by fertilization. Nutrient concentration of foliage among the tree species were higher in LT and PY than in QA and PT. These results suggest that fertilizers may be used to enhance soil fertility and the growth and nutrient status of tree species planted in a fire-disturbed urban forest.

  • Phosphorus dynamics in terms of specific absorption rate, inflow and outflow rates. turnover rate, demand and supply, and utility index of a high yield Zea mays L. cv. Bokgyo field were evaluated using an analysis of successive production structures. The analysis was adopted for measuring quantitative changes in the population by stratified clip technique on every two weeks during the growing season. The seasonal trends of specific absorption rate (2. 4 mg P/g/day in maximum) and specific absorption efficiency (0. 03) closely correlated with that of relative growth rate of the population. The overall inflow and outflow of phosphorus was 3.41 g P/$m^2$/yr showing the maximum inflow of 2.99 g P/$m^2$/month in July. While the maximum phosphorus standing crop was 1.4 g P/$m^2$ showing the maximum turnover rate of 178% in late June. The accumulation of phosphorus along plant height declined monotonically in stems and roots but increased in foliage after heading. The proportions of the total annual demand of phosphorus were 24.4% for leaves, 22.5% for stems, 49.6% for fruits and 3.5% for roots. These demands were met with internal (18.2 %) and external (81.8 %) supplies. The seasonal highest phosphorus utility index was 1,091 in early June, while the average value was 655.

  • To identify the effect of fallen cherry blossom on the artificial pond ecosystem, microcosm experiment was conducted into the aquatic decomposition of Prunus species petals. Petals were put in $1mm^2$ mesh nylon litter bags. For treatment group, one flower litter bag was placed into each pot microcosm ($27{\times}20{\times}8cm^3$) filled with influent water from the artificial pond, whereas control group microcosm contained pond water only. Decomposition time were set differently (4, 8, 12, 16 days) among treatment groups. At the end of experiment, most petals were decomposed and only 32.3% of initial dry weight remained with the decay rate (k) of $7.06{\times}10^{-2}day^{-1}$. $NO_3-N$ concentration of microcosm water decreased sharply from 1.90 mg/L at first to 0.02 mg/L, whereas $NH_4-N$ concentration increased from 0.03 mg/L to 2.85 mg/L continually. $PO_4-P$ concentration was 0.03 mg/L at first and increased to 2.39 mg/L by decomposition. Therefore, available phosphorus seems to have leached with higher rate than nitrogen from the petals litter. Increase about 0.02 mg/L in $PO_4-P$ concentration could be estimated in artificial pond from the calculation on the total quantity of fallen blossoms. This result suggests that available phosphorus from the decomposed Prunus petals could cause eutrophication in the artificial pond.

  • Litter fall is a source of nutrients and carbon transfer in terrestrial ecosystems. Litter decomposition provides nutrients needed for plant growth, sustains soil fertility, and supplies $CO_2$ to the atmosphere. We collected the leaf litter of evergreen broadleaf tree, Camellia japonica L., and carried out a decomposition experiment using the litterbag method in Ju-do, Wando-gun, Korea for 731 days from Dec 25, 2011 to Dec 25, 2013. The leaf litter of C. japonica remained 42.6% of the initial litter mass after experiment. The decay constant (k) of C. japonica leaf litter was $0.427yr^{-1}$. The carbon content of C. japonica leaf litter was 44.6%, and the remaining carbon content during the decomposition tended to coincide with the changes in litter mass. The initial nitrogen and phosphorus content was 0.47% and 324.7 mg/g, respectively. The remaining N in decaying litter increased 1.66-fold in the early decomposition stage, then gradually decreased to 1.18-fold after 731 days. The content of P showed the highest value (1.64-fold of initial content) after 456 days, which then fell to a 1.15-fold after 731 days. The remaining Ca, K, Mg and Na content in C. japonica leaf litter tended to decrease during decomposition. The remaining K showed a remaining mass of 8.9% as a result of rapid reduction. The initial C/N and C/P ratio of C. japonica leaf litter was 94.87 and 1368.5, respectively. However, it tended to decrease as decomposition progressed because of the immobilization of N and P (2.78 and 2.68-fold of initial content, respectively) during the leaf litter decaying. The study results showed that N and P was immobilized and other nutrients was mineralized in C. japonica leaf litter during experimental period.

  • The Shihwa constructed wetland was established for the treatment of severely polluted water from Banwoul, Donghwa and Samhwa streams, This study was focused on investigating dynamics of phytoplankton community at 5 stations of open waters in the Shihwa constructed wetland from October 2001 to July 2002. The concentration of T-N and T-P of inlet stations from the streams were decreased by flowed through the wetland. However, the TN/TP ratios at all stations were shown as a little over 16 indicating that the T-P plays an important role as a limitation factor. Phytoplankton communities were identified as a total of 413 taxa which were composed of 375 species, 21 varieties, 2 forma and 15 unidentified species. The standing crops of phytoplankton communities and chlorophyll-a concentrations ranged 330 ${\sim}$ 36, 420 cells $mL^{-1}$ and $2.5\;{\sim}\;170.7\;{\mu}g\;L^{-1}$ respectively, and showed a decreasing tendency after flowing through the wetland at almost stations. Dominant species were 14 taxa at all stations which were Euglena oblonga, Synura spinosa, and etc. The species composition, standing crops and chlorophyll concentrations of phytoplankton communities appeared a distinct differences between open waters of inlet from stream and open waters flowed through the wetland. Theses results were affected from decreasing effects of TN, TP and SS by flowed through the wetland from inlet waters of streams.

  • The pharmacokinetic properties of oxytetracycline (OTC) were studied after intramuscular injection to cultured olive flounder, Paralichthys olivaceus. Plasma concentrations of OTC were determined after dosage of 12.5, 25 and 50 ㎎/㎏ body weight in olive flounder (average 600 g, $23{\pm}1{^{\circ}C}$). Plasma samples were taken at 3, 5, 10, 15, 24, 32, 48, 72, 120, 168, 240 and 360 h post-dose. With 25 and 50 ㎎/㎏, the peak plasma concentrations of OTC, which attained at 5 h post-dose, were 0.99 and 1.49 $\mu{g}/m\ell$, respectively. However, the peak plasma concentration of 12.5 ㎎/㎏ was 0.35 $\mu{g}/m\ell$ after 10 h post-dose. Plasma concentrations of OTC were not measurable at 360 h post-dose in all doses. The kinetic profile of absorption, distribution and elimination of OTC in plasma were analyzed fitting to a 1-compartment model by Win-Nonlin program. The following parameters were calculated for 12.5, 25 and 50 ㎎/㎏ body weight, respectively: AUC (the area under the concentration-time curve)?DD24.98, 44.67 and 50.45 $\mu{g}$ $h/m\ell$ $T_{1/2}$ (half-life) ?DD0.42, 0.59 and 0.41 h; $T_{max}$ (time for maximum concentration)?DD8.46, 6.34 and 2.66 h; $C_{max}$ (maximum concentration)?DD0.30, 0.63 and 1.13 $\mu{g}/m\ell$.

  • The object of this study was to obtain accurate information about the co-administration effects of cardiotonic pills on the pharmacokinetics of cilostazol were observed as a process of the comprehensive and integrative medicine. Cilostazol is a synthetic anti-platelet and vasodilator agent developed for the treatment of intermittent claudication resulting from peripheral arterial disease. By increasing intracellular cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP), cilostazol induces the activation of protein kinase A, which activates endothelial nitric oxide synthase. In order to evaluate the effect of a single or repeated cardiotonic pill dose on the pharmacokinetics of cilostazol, a single dose of pure_distilled water or a colloidal suspension of distilled water and cardiotonic pills were administered to the control and test groups, respectively. After 30 min, both groups were administered cilostazol. Plasma was collected 30min before administration, and 0.25, 0.5, 0.45, 1, 2, 4, 6, 8, and 24h after the end of cilostazol treatment. We then evaluated the pharmacokinetic changes observed with cilostazol between the control and test groups. No statistically significant differences were observed. These findings demonstrated that a single dose of cardiotonic pills did not affect the pharmacokinetics of cilostazol. The results obtained in this study suggest that co-administration of cardiotonic pills and cilostazol may not affect the bioavailability of cilostazol as a potential drug interaction.

  • Although the Korean government have made a plan of housing market with supply and concentrated on the welfare of the people, there are still a lot of problem in housing market for lack of a long-term vision and consistent policy of the government. The plan of 115% of housing diffusion in 2012 is in progress after its acquisition of 100% in 2002, but there are no changes in the rental housing rate of 43% in 2003. In addition, there are getting worse circumstances in the instability of housing market and the low-income bracket, because of the Korean construction firms' bankruptcy with an increase of unsold hosing and a rapid increase of housing prices. The government have made the strategy of revitalizing the economy and regional development by means of a million public rental housing plan for the low-income bracket and welfare. This paper introduces the basic information of the subjective strategy establishment with the analysis of the reciprocal action of influence factors for public rental housing by system dynamics theory and the effect of public rental housing in housing supply market which has a long-term dynamic form.

  • The population dynamics of Zacco koreanus in the upstream and downstream of Hoengseong Lake, Korea were investigated from April to October 2005. As the result of a comparison of variations regarding the time of I koreanus populations, it was confirmed that downstream was a place to remain compared to upstream Also the b value, assessed by Length-weight relationship in upstream and downstream, were $3.21{\sim}3.35,\;and\;2.94{\sim}3.37$, respectively indicating the fish in downstream had better than upstream. Additionaly condition factor(K) of each population in upstream and downstream were $0.0292{\sim}0.0693\;and\;-0.0165{\sim}0.0499$, respectively, K value in upstream lower than downstream. On the other hand, the maximum-growth value$(L_{\infty})$ calculated by von Bertalanffy's growth model in upstream and downstream were 279.7mm and 303.9mm, respectively, indicating that the potential-growth ability of population in downstream was higher than population in upstream. Therefore, Z. koreanus population in upstream became worse based on matters of age structure, Length-weight relationship, and von Bertalanffy's growth model. These results are considered to show the change of the physical environment by the constructing of Hoengseong Dam.
