  • The present study was designed to observe the thermal dynamics of core and skin temperatures during sub-maximal treadmill exercise; to investigate the effect of regional body cooling during short rest after the treadmill exercise on the thermal dynamics. Three conditions (No cooling, Head/Hand cooling, Leg cooling) were simulated in a climatic chamber at 24±1℃ and 50±5%RH. Subjects performed two bouts of treadmill exercise at a rate of 80%HRmax followed by rest. Body cooling with a hood, long gloves, and a blanket that circulated water set at 15℃ was assigned during two bouts of rest. The results showed that (1) rectal temperature (Tre) did not show significant difference between three conditions; (2) Skin temperatures had specific features, depending on body regions. In particular, the initial fall phenomena of skin temperatures at the onset of exercise were noteworthy in the chest, thigh, calf, and finger tip. Of these, the most significant initial fall was found in finger temperature (Tfing). (3) During the period of the initial fall in skin temperatures, Tre gradually increased. (4) The magnitude of the fall of Tfing at the onset of 2nd running was on average 4.8, 5.1 and 3.4℃ for Control, HH cooling, and Leg cooling, respectively (p<0.05). The initial drop of Tfing at the onset of running was maintained for an average of 8.1, 7.9 and 6.3 minutes for Control, HH cooling, and Leg cooling, with no significant differences. In conclusion, the initial fall phenomena at the onset of treadmill exercise reflected non-thermal factors, as opposed to internal thermal status. The magnitude of the initial fall in Tfing was affected by legs cooling. Therefore, the initial fall phenomenon should be considered when interpreting the thermal status of the shell during heavy works/exercises that assigned with intermittent regional body cooling.

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the variables of plantar pressure distribution, the COG between Flying Sit Spin(FSS) and Flying Camel Spin(FCS) during a Figure Skating. In order to investigate the two types of spin mechanism in the Korea national of elite women Figure skaters(N=4), this study investigated the phase time, CA(contact area), MF(maximum force) Mean Force, and PP(peak pressure) Mean Force. The data was collected using PEDAR Mobile System which is the pressure distribution measuring devices. The obtained conclusions were as follow: During the two types of spins(FSS and FCS), the FCS is higher than the FSS on the MF(20%BW), PP(20%BW) variables during P4 phase, but the FSS is larger than the FCS in the CA, MF, and PP during P1, P2, P3 phase. Consequently, depend on the COP and the COG locations about the vertical ground reaction vector, the FCS comparatively excelled control of speed feedback than the FSS in the P4 phase.

  • The study investigated genetic algorithms for the optimal control model of maximum height vertical jumping. The model includes forward dynamic simulations by the neural excitation-control variables. Convergence of genetic algorithms is very slow. In this paper the micro genetic algorithm(micro-GA) was used to reduce the computation time. Then a near optimal solution from micro-GA was an initial solution for VF02, which is one of well-developed and proven nonlinear programming algorithms. This approach provided the successful optimal solution for maximum-height jumping without a reasonable initial guess.

  • In this paper, we propose a parametric model for analyzing the motion information obtained from the acceleration sensors to measure the activity of the human body. The motion of the upper body and the lower body does not occur at the same time, and the motion analysis method using a single motion sensor involves a lot of errors. In this study, the 3-axis accelerometer is attached to the arms and legs, the body's activity data are measured, the momentum of the arms and legs are calculated for each channel, and the linear predictive coefficient is obtained for each channel. The periodicity of the upper body and the lower body is determined by analyzing the correlation between the channels. The linear predictive coefficient and the periodic value are used as data to measure the type of exercise and the amount of exercise. In the proposed method, we measured four types of movements such as walking, stair climbing, slow hill climbing, and fast hill descending. In order to verify the usefulness of the parameters, the recognition results are presented using the linear predictive coefficient and the periodic value for each motion as the neural network input.

  • The Average Coordinate Referenee System (ACRS) method is developed to reduce experimental errors in human locomotion analysis. Experimentally measured kinematic data is used to conduct analysis in human modeling, and the model accuracy is directly related to the accuracy of the data. However. the accuracy is questionable due to skin movement. deformation of skeletal structure while in motion and limitations of commercial motion analysis system . In this study. the ACRS method is applied to an optically-tracked segment marker system. although it can be applied to many of the others as well. In the ACRS method, each marker can be treated independently. as the origin of a local coordinate system for its body segment. Errors, inherent in the experimental process. result in different values for the recovered Euler angles at each origin. By employing knowledge of an initial, calibrated segment reference frame, the Euler angles at each marker location can be averaged. minimizing the effect of the skin extension and rotation. Using the developed ACRS methodology the error is reduced when compared to the general Euler angle method commonly applied in motion analysis. If there is no error exist in the experimental gait data. the separation and Penetration distance of the femoraltibial joint using absolute coordinate system is supposed to be zero during one gait cycle. The separation and Penetration distance was ranged up to 18 mm using general Euler angle method and 12 mm using the developed ACRS.
