A Study on the Safety and Management Plan of Aviation Maintenance due to Human Error (인적오류에 의한 항공정비의 안전과 관리방안에 관한 연구)

  • The proportion of airline accidents caused by human factors is steadily increasing. The aviation industry has made considerable progress in reducing the accident rate; however, since the early 1980s, the accident rate has remained constant. Due to airspace congestion, the safety margins of these existing safety promotion methods are gradually decreasing; thus, new methods to prevent accidents and quasi-accidents must be devised. Causative factors of aviation accidents include increased air traffic due to increased air demand, increased cumulative working hours due to long-distance flights, and complicated flight environments. Accidents often occur when several small errors accumulate in the normal course of operation, rather than after a single error. Accordingly, in this study, the impacts on air navigation due to human error by aviation maintenance personnel and varying international standards (i.e., KOCA vs. F.A.A vs. EASA) analyzed, and the relationship between human decision-making and behavior was investigated. The resulting safety analysis and alternatives were presented to prevent aviation maintenance accidents and cognitive ergonomics errors.

  • 차세대 원전 경보시스템에서의 경보처리는 발전소의 과도상태 및 비정상운전시 경보필터링, 경보억제, 발전소 상태에 근거한 우선순위처리 등을 적용하여 운전원에게 경보정보를 효율적으로 처리하고자 한다. 경보표시 측면에서는 인간공학 및 인지공학적 요소를 적용하여 운전원의 인적오류를 최소화하여 기존 경보계통의 단점을 개선하고자 하였다. 본 논문에서는 차세대 경보계통설계의 구현을 위해서 COAST(Computerized Alarm System Toolbox)를 사용하여 경보처리방법 중 그룹핑기법을 구현하였다.

Predicting Human Errors in Landing Situations of Aircraft by Using SHERPA (SHERPA기법을 이용한 항공기 착륙상황에서 발생 가능한 인적오류 예측)

  • This study aims to examine probable human errors when landing an airplane by the use of SHERPA(systematic human error reduction and prediction approach) and propose methods for preventing the predictive human errors. It has been reported that human errors are concerned with a lot of accidents or incidents of an airplane. It is significant to predict presumable human errors, particularly in the operation mode of human-automation interaction, and attempt to reduce the likelihood of predicted human error. By referring to task procedures and interviewing domain experts, we analyzed airplane landing task by using HTA(hierarchical task analysis) method. In total, 6 sub-tasks and 19 operations were identified from the task analysis. SHERPA method was used for predicting probable human error types for each task. As a result, we identified 31 human errors and predicted their occurrence probability and criticality. Based on them, we suggested a set of methods for minimizing the probability of the predicted human errors. From this study, it can be said that SHERPA can be effectively used for predicting probable human error types in the context of human-automation interaction needed for navigating an airplane.

Research Trends of Cognitive Systems Engineering Approaches to Human Error and Accident Modelling in Complex Systems (복잡한 시스템에서의 인적오류 및 사고모형의 인지시스템공학적 연구의 동향)

  • Objective: The purpose of this paper is to introduce new research trends of human error and accident modeling and to suggest future promising research directions in those areas. Background: Various methods and techniques have been developed to understand the nature of human errors, to classify them, to analyze their causes, to prevent their negative effects, and to use their concepts during design process. However, it has been reported that they are impractical and ineffective for modern complex systems, and new research approaches are needed to secure the safety of those systems. Method: Six different perspectives to study human error and system safety are explained, and then seven recent research trends are introduced in relation to the six perspectives. The implications of the new research trends and viable research directions based on them are discussed from a cognitive systems engineering point of view. Results: Traditional methods for analyzing human errors and identifying causes of accidents have critical limitations in complex systems, and recent research trends seem to provide some insights and clues for overcoming them. Conclusion: Recent research trends of human error and accident modeling emphasize different concepts and viewpoints, which include systems thinking, sociotechnical perspective, ecological modelling, system resilience, and safety culture. Application: The research topics explained in this paper will help researchers to establish future research programmes.

  • This Paper provides perceptual metrics for video quality based on properties of human visual system, and audio quality based on human audition. All metrics work without reference signals, allowing non-intrusive, in-service measurements. A simple and easy-to-learn user interface displays the metrics and saves them in popular file formats like CSV. In this paper, proposed method was able to various and corrective measurement for the multimedia service video quality. As that it was able to application to set up service guide line and the methode of measurement and system for the set up standardization of the high quality video service.

Social Engineering Evaluation of Electronic Financial Fraud: Analysis of Actual Victims through FGI (전자금융사기의 사회공학적 진화: FGI를 통한 실제 피해자 분석)

  • Recently, much attention in electronic financial fraud has been dramatically increased. In particular, the electronic financial fraud has been transforming to social engineering. Despite the growing interest in electronic financial fraud, few guidelines exist how to effectively avoid the serious damage from electronic financial fraud. Moreover, it is rarely investigated cases of victims from financial fraud. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to investigate why financial fraud crime victims occurs. To enhance mundane realism, we conducted Focus Group Interview(FGI) with actual victims from financial fraud crime. Drawing analysis of FGI with actual victims, we found that there are certain damage patterns. Further, we found that the reason why financial fraud crime victims occurs is optimistic biases of humans rooted in behavioral economics. Therefore, this study provides the valuable guidelines and directions to prevent electronic financial fraud based on risk and crisis management perspective. Ultimately, this study is able to help the establishment and implementation of a comprehensive electronic financial fraud prevention policy.

  • This study analysed the articles dealing with traffic behavior published since 1990 in Korea. The following information was coded for each articles; year of publication, source, authors, main topic and subtopic. The annual numbers of publication before 1996 was below 10 articles and over 10 articles after 1997. The driver was main topic of 60.8% of articles and traffic enviroment was 26.4%. Personality & Attitude, Cognition & Perception and Alcohol were the main interest subtopics dealing with main topic driver. And the dominant publications were Journal of traffic safety research, Journal of Korean society of transportation and Korean journal of psychological and social issues with 60% of all articles.

Mapping Heterogenous Ontologies for the HLP Applications - Sejong Semantic Classes and KorLexNoun 1.5 - (인간언어공학에의 활용을 위한 이종 개념체계 간 사상 - 세종의미부류와 KorLexNoun 1.5 -)

  • This study proposes a bottom-up and inductive manual mapping methodology for integrating two heterogenous fine-grained ontologies which were built by a top-down and deductive methodology, namely the Sejong semantic classes (SJSC) and the upper nodes in KorLexNoun 1.5 (KLN), for HLP applications. It also discusses various problematics in the mapping processes of two language resources caused by their heterogeneity and proposes the solutions. The mapping methodology of heterogeneous fine-grained ontologies uses terminal nodes of SJSC and Least Upper Bounds (LUB) of KLN as basic mapping units. Mapping procedures are as follows: first, the mapping candidate groups are decided by the lexfollocorrelation between the synsets of KLN and the noun senses of Sejong Noun Dfotionaeci(SJND) which are classified according to SJSC. Secondly, the meanings of the candidate groups are precisely disambiguated by linguistic information provided by the two ontologies, i.e. the hierarchicllostructures, the definitions, and the exae les. Thirdly, the level of LUB is determined by applying the appropriate predicates and definitions of SJSC to the upper-lower and sister nodes of the candidate LUB. Fourthly, the mapping possibility ic inthe terminal node of SJSC is judged by che aring hierarchicllorelations of the two ontologies. Finally, the ituorrect synsets of KLN and terminologiollocandidate groups are excluded in the mapping. This study positively uses various language information described in each ontology for establishing the mapping criteria, and it is indeed the advantage of the fine-grained manual mapping. The result using the proposed methodology shows that 6,487 LUBs are mapped with 474 terminal and non-terminal nodes of SJSC, excluding the multiple mapped nodes, and that 88,255 nodes of KLN are mapped including all lower-level nodes of the mapped LUBs. The total mapping coverage is 97.91% of KLN synsets. This result can be applied in many elaborate syntactic and semantic analyses for Korean language processing.
