Development of Survey Tool for the Scientific Character of Elementary Student (초등학생을 위한 과학인성 검사 도구 개발)

  • The purpose of this study is to develop a survey tool of scientific character for elementary student which connects science education and character education effectively by figuring out traits of elementary students' character being presented in teaching and learning context of elementary school science. For this, we adapted the theocratical model from the previous research which defined scientific character as the competencies being able to practice in concrete teaching and learning context of science. Based on this model, we developed the survey tool as 'Scientific Character Inventory for Elementary Student' to assess elementary students' scientific character as the competences to practice the virtues being pursued in the context of elementary school science and verified its reliability and validity. As a result of an exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis, we confirmed all the items could be summarized into 28 items and eight constructs such as scientific problem-solving, self-management, self-reflection, communication, interpersonal skill, community participation, global citizenship, and environmental ethics awareness. We found that minimum reliability coefficient of constructs was over than 0.5 and reliability coefficient of the total items was 0.878. And also, there was modest relationship between each construct and the total score of scientific character. These results show that the developed survey tool can be useful in evaluating the effectiveness of science character education. This study is meaningful in that it systematically reveals constructs of scientific character which can be raised in concrete context of science teaching and learning so as to suggest the survey tool to assess this.

  • 교원의 핵심 역량 중 지식 역량이나 수행 역량 등은 교직과정 이수 결과의 확인이나 지필 시험 또는 실기 시연 등을 통해 확인 또는 평가할 수 있다. 그러나 태도 역량이나 전문성 개발역량의 일부 요소들은 별도의 도구나 평가로 심사해야 된다. 전문성 개발 역량 가운데 자기반성 노력, 지속적 학습 노력, 교육 공동체 간 의사소통 및 협력 등의 요소들은 기존의 평가 방식으로 파악하기 어렵다. 따라서 교원의 핵심 역량을 평가하기 위해서는 교직 적성 및 인성 검사와 같은 별도의 도구가 필요하다. 본 논문은 교원자격을 강화하기 위한 교직 적성 및 인성 검사를 효율적으로 실시하기 위한 온라인 웹 검정 시스템을 설계하고자 한다.

Relationship between MMPI-2 Clinical Scales and SRQ of Brain Quotient (다면적 인성검사(MMPI-2)임상척도와 자기조절지수와의 관련성)

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the relationship between the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory(MMPI-2) clinical scales and the self-regulation quotient of the brain quotient. The test in this study was performed by 41 adults over 20 years old and was done using the MMPI-2, which is a self-reporting method. EEG was performed using a 2-channel EEG System at Fp1 and Fp2. The analysis showed a negative correlation between scale 2(D), which is the MMPI-2 clinical scale, and the SRQ(Self Regulation Quotient) relaxation status, which is the related alpha rhythm. Scale3(Hy) showed a positive correlation with the SRQ concentration status and low ${\beta}$ rhythm. Scale7 in the MMPI-2 clinical scales showed a negative correlation with the SRQ relaxation status, which is the alpha rhythm. This means that MMPI-2 and SRQ can be used complementarily in the field of counseling. These results could be interpreted in three ways. First, people with depression are sensitive to other people's attention and evaluation. Therefore, they tend to expend a lot of energy when forming interpersonal relationships, and if they do not learn to relax, their fatigue can easily be increased. Second, people who seek other people's interest and have a cheerful spirit are considered to be highly active. Third, highly stressed people with anxiety and tension seem to easily become tired and their irritation and discomfort may be increased in consequence.

Comparison of Sites of Intracranial Injury and the Results of MMPI & K-WAIS in the Patients with Post-Traumatic Organic Mental Disorder (외상후 기질성 정신장애 환자의 뇌손상 부위에 따른 다면적 인성검사, 한국판 웩슬러 지능검사 결과비교)

  • Objectives : The purpose of this study was to evaluate the difference of psychometric analysis among patients with Post-traumatic organic mental disorder according to the lesion of MRI finding of traumatic brain injury. Methods : We divided 35 patients into 4 groups according to the lesion of MRI finding of brain injury. We evaluated the difference of the subscales of MMPI and K-WAIS among 4 groups with Post-traumatic organic mental disorder by ANOVA. Results : We found no significant difference of all subscales of MMPI and K -WAIS among 4 groups by ANOVA. Compared Rt hemispheric injury group with Lt hemispheric injury group by independent t-test, the depression scale in MMPI scored significantly higher in Lt hemispheric injury group, and the block design in K-WAIS scored significantly lower in Rt hemispheric injury group. Conclusion : This study suggests that Lt hemispheric injury be significantly related to depression, and Rt hemispheric injury be significantly related to visuospatial ability.

The characteristics of neurocardiogenic syncope in children (소아 신경-심인성 실신의 특징)

  • Purpose : Syncope is relatively common in children and adolescents. Among the etiologies of syncope, neurocardiogenical syncope is the most common, but it is often confounded with seizure. We investigated the clinical features of patients under the age of 15 with neurocardiogenical syncope, compared to patients with neurologic disorders including epilepsy. Methods : Among the children who visited the Department of Pediatrics at Cheongju St. Mary's Hospital and Chungbuk National University Hospital from March 2005 to February 2007, we retrospectively analyzed 69 patients whose chief complaint was syncope. We classified the patients by syncope etiology and made comparisons between the neurocardiogenical syncope (NCS) group and the neurological disorders (ND) group regarding to age; location; time and season in which syncope occurred; associated symptoms, including seizures, provocation factors; prodromes; duration of syncope; frequency of previous syncope; birth history; associated disease; past medical history; family history; neurological exam; physical exam; laboratory findings; electrocardiography; electroencephalography (EEG); head-up tilt test; brain CT; and MRI. Results : Among 69 syncope patients, 53 (76.8%) were in the NCS group and 11 (15.9%) were in the ND group. There were no statistically significant differences between the two study groups except for the presence of prodromes and EEG abnormalities. The presence of prodromes in the NCS group was more common than in the ND group [46.9% (23/49) vs. 9.1% (1/11), (P=0.038)]. The EEG abnormality in the ND group was more common than in the NCS group [90% (9/10) vs. 5.8% (3/52), (P<0.01)]. Conclusion : Our study suggests that detailed history-taking, including that concerning prodromes, is important for the accurate diagnosis of neurocardiogenical syncope, and EEG should be obtained if neurological disorders are suggested.

  • 폐부종은 심인성, 혹은 비심인성 요인에 의해 발생한다. 심인성폐부종(Cardiogenic Pulmonary Edema, CPE)은 심질환, 좌심방 압력의 증가, 폐정맥과 폐모세혈관의 압력 증가와 관련있다. 이와는 대조적으로 비심인성 폐부종(Noncardiogenic Pulmonary Edema, NCPE)은 좌심방의 압력증가에 의해서 혹은 기저질환인 심장 질환과 관련없이 발생한 국소적인 정수압의 증가하여 발생하거나, 폐포나 모세혈관내 피표면의 투과도의 변화에 의해서 발생한다. 혹은 국소적인 정수압 및 투과도의 복합적인 변화 모두에 의하여 발생한다. NCPE의 환축을 적절하게 치료하기 위하여 CPE와 반드시 감별되어야 한다. 또한, 심인성 및 NCPE의 감별 및 적절한 처치를 위하여는 철저한 환축의 병력, 신체검사, 흉부방사선 촬영 등의 검사를 실시하여야 한다. NCPE는 원발요인과 치료반응에 따라 예후가 달라질 수 있다.

Generalizability Analysis of Teaching Aptitude and Personality Test for Pre-service Engineering Teachers in a Graduate School of Education (교육대학원 예비공학교사의 교직 적성·인성 검사에서 일반화가능도 분석)

  • This study examined the fairness of the teaching aptitude and personality test assigned to pre-service engineering teachers in a graduate school of education based on measurement traits. For this study, we analyzed the teaching aptitude and personality test scores of 99 students enrolled in engineering education in a graduate school of education located in the Seoul metropolitan area from 2013 to 2017. The main results were as follows. First, the estimated variance due to residual was generally the highest, followed by nesting of items within domains, pre-service engineering teachers, interactions of pre-service engineering teachers with domains, domains, and occasions. Second, dependability coefficients were better indicators than Cronbach's because the latter may have been overestimated by applying the traditional reliability coefficient in inappropriate manners. Third, the teaching aptitude and personality test can be applied to pre-service engineering teachers in a graduate school of education based on empirical evidence considering dependability coefficients. Fourth, a total of 96 items from the original 210 items, with 2 occasions and 12 domains containing 8 items in each domain, were optimal measurement conditions to reach adequate degrees of reliability based on the total number of items. Finally, the results were discussed, the study limitations described and future research directions proposed.

Relationship between Thinking Styles and the Big-Five Personality Traits of scientifically-gifted students. (과학영재들의 사고양식과 5 인성 요인간의 관계)

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationships between the thinking styles and the big five personality traits of gifted students. Two hundred and fifty-five gifted students(169 boys, 97 girls) enrolled in the Science Elite Program responded to the Big Five Personality Inventory and Thinking Styles Inventory. Although significant relationships were identified between particular thinking styles and certain personality traits, it was concluded that it is premature to claim that a personality measure can be used to measures thinking styles. Neuroticism, Agreeableness, in Big Five Personality Inventory and level and form dimensions of Thinking Styles Inventory was found to measure the each construct independently.

The Influence of MMPI Characteristics on the Outcome of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Panic Disorder (공황장애 환자의 다면적 인성검사 (MMPI) 특성이 인지행동치료 결과에 미치는 영향)

  • Objective : This study was designed to find the characteristics of MMPI that could influence the outcome of cognitive behavioral therapy(CBT) for panic disorder. Methods : 34 patients who met DSM-IV criteria for panic disorder with or without agoraphobia had completed 11 weekly sessions of cognitive behavioral therapy. All the patients were assessed with MMPI before the initiation of treatment. Five self-report measures including Beck Depression Inventory(BDI), Spielberger State-Trait Anxiety Inventory(STAI), Agoraphobic Cognition Questionnarie(ACQ), Body Sensation Questionnaire(BSQ), and Daily Anxiety Selfrating (0 - 8 scales) were also assessed as a pre- and post-treatment assessment. After the completion of treatment, patients were classified by the High End-State(HES) functioning group and the Low End-State(LES) functioning group for the data analysis. Results : 1) The LES group showed significantly higher scores in Hypochondriasis Scale(HS), Depression Scale(D), Hysterical Scale(Hy), Obsessive Scale(Pt), Schizophrenia Scale(Sc) and Validity Scale(F) of MMPI than the HES group. However, these differences gave impressions that the LES group had more severe symptoms rather than that they could be the factors influencing the outcome of CBT. 2) Though, the severity of symptoms of the LES group in the 5 measures of pre-assessment was basically higher than that of the HES group. The fact that both group showed the similar improvement between pre- and post-assessment supported the above interpretation. Conclusion : In regarding the above results, MMPI was not a proper tool that could provide the factors influencing the outcome of CBT. In the future study, the authors need to use a different tool that can find the personality characteristics more directly.
