  • This paper considers the historical background of the emergence of 'thinking-machine,' that has changed the ontological statue of human and machine. In particular, British mathematician Charles Babbage's Calculating Engines is examined as a material iteration of thinking-machine, focusing on the discursive process by which thought is not the faculty of human, but the function of machine. In Chapter II, I review the dualism of René Descartes who denied the possibility of machine intelligence by separating the substance of body and mind. In Chapter III, Babbage's philosophical assertions which emphasized the function of human associated with thought by rejecting the fundamental opposition between human and machine. Therefore, this paper verifies that the conception of 'thinking-machine' essentially causes the reorganization and reformulation of concepts involved with human identity, and provides the sophisticated sources to prepare new perspective on the artificial technology nowadays.

  • This article attempts to define identity, role and functions of a university museum and to suggest specialization of the university museum in the perspective of culture, arts, and science. A university museum is defined as a center for the service of the university community and its development which acquires, researches, communicates, exhibits and educates, for purposes of eduinfotainment,29 material evidence of people and their environment. The target user of the today's university museum are not only professors, students, university workers, but also university neighbourhood such as the related professionals, patrons, parents, school children and villagers. A multi-dimensional and multi-purpose university museum can be established and managed in a real world and / or a cyber world in the perspective of culture, arts, and science. Based on a ubiquitous system30 in a cyber world vis-a-vie a real world, the university museum can be easily utilized by users anywhere, anytime and any device. In order to specialize the university museum in the perspective of culture, arts and science, it is desirable that the university museum director with the CEO of the university community promote the specialization of the university museum based on philosophy and strategies of university community management after they definitely evaluate the components and resources of the university museum such as human powers, museum collections, organizational, technological, capital, spacial and symbolic resources, The specialization of the university museum should be projected and executed in the direction of maintaining the typical scope of museum activities and managing the effective museum management. Specializing the university museum in the perspective of culture, arts, and science can contribute not only to establish the identity of the university community and to perform role and functions of the university museum but also to encourage academic development, to revaluate the brand of the university community and to promote the marketing for the university.

  • This Study has two research interests: First, to give a new perspective in searching for the identifying features of social welfare studies in Korea where social welfare is recognized as an independent discipline through an examination of german research trends in social policy, where social policy is not recognized as an independent discipline, but as a field of study. The reasons of non-recognition of social policy studies as an independent discipline in Germany are value problems, vagueness of research objects, and the position of social welfare in relation to another social sciences. Second, to show the trends of german studies in social policy from diverse disciplines, i. e. sociology, political science, law, history, pedagogics etc. and the common points in these studies. The results of this study are as follows. First, the common feature of german Studies on the social policy from diverse disciplins is above all the interest in the improvement of Lebenslage, i. e. conditions of life. Second, the value problems in social sciences are not solved till now, but the interests in the improvement of Lebenslage don't mean studies of social policy must handle with values. The interests in the applicability of social policy don't mean values must be improved in the studies either. Third, the vagueness of the objects can be found also in other social sciences and is not unique in social policy studies. Fourth, the studies, which focuses on the improvement of Lebenslage and can contribute to construct theories such as raising the effectiveness of state intervention must be recognized as studies of social policy, even though they are written by social scientists from other disciplines. This means the theories of social policy to pursue are connected with theories of middle range, i. e. with lower degree of abstraction.

  • In recent years, some service providers have introduced chatbot agents to provide engagement in the healthcare field. However, current research on chatbot agents is still limited to designing various chatbot identities for healthcare services. By contrast, this study aims to investigate how various agent identities affect users' perceptions and behaviors differently. We developed three chatbot agents with different identities: a doctor (an individual), a hospital (an institution), and a virtual agent (a machine). Then, we recruited 36 users and divided them into three groups, each using a different chatbot agent. They were asked to track their behaviors and review advice from the chatbot agent for six days. Post-hoc surveys and interviews were conducted in order to investigate users' perceptions. The findings are as follows: participants felt more trusting and intimate with the doctor and hospital agents than with the virtual agent. Many of the participants preferred the hospital agent due to its higher reliability. However, all three agents did not lead the participants to change their behaviors. This study contributes to providing practical guidelines for designing chatbots in the healthcare field by studying users' perceptions and behaviors depending on chatbot identities.

  • First-order cybernetics during the 1940s and 1950s aimed for control of an observed system, while second-order cybernetics during the mid-1970s aspired to address the mechanism of an observing system. The former pursues an objective, subjectless, approach to a system, whereas the latter prefers a subjective, personal approach to a system. Second-order observation must be noted since a human observer is a living system that has its unique cognition. Maturana and Varela place the autopoiesis of this biological system at the core of second-order cybernetics. They contend that an autpoietic system maintains, transforms and produces itself. Technoscientific recreation of biological autopoiesis opens up to a new step in cybernetics: what I describe as third-order cybernetics. The formation of technoscientific autopoiesis overlaps with the Fourth Industrial Revolution or what Erik Brynjolfsson and Andrew McAfee call the Second Machine Age. It leads to a radical shift from human centrism to posthumanity whereby humanity is mechanized, and machinery is biologized. In two versions of the novel Demon Seed, American novelist Dean Koontz explores the significance of technoscientific autopoiesis. The 1973 version dramatizes two kinds of observers: the technophobic human observer and the technology-friendly machine observer Proteus. As the story concludes, the former dominates the latter with the result that an anthropocentric position still works. The 1997 version, however, reveals the victory of the techno-friendly narrator Proteus over the anthropocentric narrator. Losing his narrational position, the technophobic human narrator of the story disappears. In the 1997 version, Proteus becomes the subject of desire in luring divorcee Susan. He longs to flaunt his male egomaniac. His achievement of male identity is a sign of technological autopoiesis characteristic of third-order cybernetics. To display self-producing capabilities integral to the autonomy of machinery, Koontz's novel demonstrates that Proteus manipulates Susan's egg to produce a human-machine mixture. Koontz's demon child, problematically enough, implicates the future of eugenics in an era of technological autopoiesis. Proteus creates a crossbreed of humanity and machinery to engineer a perfect body and mind. He fixes incurable or intractable diseases through genetic modifications. Proteus transfers a vast amount of digital information to his offspring's brain, which enables the demon child to achieve state-of-the-art intelligence. His technological editing of human genes and consciousness leads to digital standardization through unanimous spread of the best qualities of humanity. He gathers distinguished human genes and mental status much like collecting luxury brands. Accordingly, Proteus's child-making project ultimately moves towards technologically-controlled eugenics. Pointedly, it disturbs the classical ideal of liberal humanism celebrating a human being as the master of his or her nature.

In this situations, the matters of individual identities and morality are more important problems. Korean classical novel, Gu Wun Mong, embodied the exploration process of identities in virtual spaces, has gravity of a situation. Seong Jin, the hero experienced the life of Yang so you went throughing virtual life, be born again. And he met eight taoist fairy in that virtual world. In this process, Seong Jin overcame a dualistic world of view and established identity of genuine truth-seeker. The 'Dream-fantasy' experience differentiation real world and virture world and give to Seong Jin a new identity, So You. Seong Jin used avatar, So You was free from limits of self and became obtain multiple personalities. Finally, Seong Jin realized the fact that real world and virtual one is the same, for development self-perception. Seong Jin's enlightment provided solutions for modern netizens, who is ambivalent about contradiction the real and virtual, infinity and clash of desire.

  • Since the emerging period in !be Greek era, geography bas been defined as an empirical science in which travel and field trip bas been regarded as its major method for acquiring geographical knowledge or discovering geographical facts on the earth surface. In the contemporary geography, however, this kind of empiricism has been reduced to logical positivism which pursues rigid geographical laws, while diverse implications for empiricism (especially, that implied in the mythic imagination) have been ignored. On the other hand, recently a lot of books on trip for exploring regional cultural environments from the local to the global level have been poured out from outside of geography, and place-marketing has gained some attraction as a new method or strategy for regional development This paper is to consider diverse methodological implications of experience through geographical exploration especially hath from the standpoint of empirical geography and of humanistic geography, and the look on methodologically importance and limitations of place-marketing for regional development In conclusions, it is emphasized that those methodologies should be put together for a genuine exploration of regional cultural environment, and that place-marketing should be understood as a movement for rediscovering regional identity.

  • This study is to suggest the tasks of Christian Education for developing empathic emotional ability of women in AI era through examining the meaning of empathic sensibilization and the examples of women overcoming the hardships of their times and bringing about change. Empathic sensibility is becoming a issue and empathy is emphasized in AI era. Because empathy is becoming a big support in overcoming hardships, and empathic emotion is showing human dignity, equality, service, devotion and consideration and so is forming a global community living together. And on investigation of the examples of women overcoming the hardships of their times, I found that as a woman with a sense and thought, as a historical human being, not as a gender, the tasks of Christian Education for developing empathic sensibility ability of women in AI era will be effort to be yourself, theological identity reestablishment of women and developing insight to read the times.

  • Critical scholarship has shown itself much more adept at identifying and analyzing the content of religious geopolitics than its impacts or effects. This article suggests ways in which the concept of social performance can be used to more carefully consider the effects of religious geopolitics. Judith Butler's identity-oriented notion of performativity is usually geographers' point of entry into issues of performance. But its strong poststructuralist distrust of agency limits its power among those who question poststructuralism's grounding beliefs. This article illustrates the added utility of other theories of performance-particularly the recent pragmatic, dramaturgical, and non-poststructuralist theorization of social performance by the cultural sociologist Jeffrey Alexander-in evaluating the impact of religious geopolitical action. It does so through the case of a recent, particularly geopolitically laden Mormon General Conference. It concludes, through Butler and Alexander, that this General Conference likely accomplished significant geopolitical work. But it also, mainly through Alexander, argues that this work likely had limited capacity to motivate new or additional geopolitical action. Its power was more to reinforce than transform.
