  • This paper suggests how Korean housemaids, called Sikmo, and Korean-Chinese migrant domestic workers have similar class positions and therefore form a dual identity in their interactions with female employers. rough spoken stories of the experiences of 27 females from Seoul, including Korean-Chinese domestic workers, Korean housemaids, and their employers, this research effectively overcomes the dichotomous discourse of natives versus foreigners. Instead it suggests the new interpretation that it is not foreignness but class inferiority of the domestic workers that plays a key role in establishing relationships with employers. Korean housemaids and Korean-Chinese domestic workers, both groups of whom are migrant workers, have developed coping strategies to enhance their labor value by spatially relocating themselves from their home society to a new society. They possess a similar labor status in women's history, being of low income, low education, and rural births. Consequently, these women experience 'translocal anchoring,' meaning their identities are intertwined with that of their home societies, and employers perceive them based on the characteristics of these places. The Korean employers perceive that the domestic workers' morality and intellectuality are inferior based on their class differences. This stigmatizing process leads employers to regard domestic workers as ambivalent people, not only threatening outsiders but also objects of pity, needing love and protection of their employers. The employers educate them culturally, teaching them skills to survive in the urban environment. These skills include cooking and language, in addition to advice on long-term plans to blend into society.

  • The policy agenda setting is the symbolic policy of representing the public at home and abroad in addition to what a role of the government and the ruling party made a great contribution out of a political stream, rather than the policy that was formed by external group. Especially, a policy for migrant workers and married immigrant women is the important policy that will need to be solved in the global era. Accordingly, the purpose of this study is to confirm a factor, which had a decisive influence upon a policy, by examining the decision-making process of 'policy for the married immigrant women' with which the government pushes ahead. A specific plan for achieving this research objective is as follows. It progresses a theoretical discussion about the multi-cultural policy in south Korea and discusses the process that the multi-cultural policy is formed. The advancing stage includes the process of forming a multi-cultural discourse, the differentiation process that a multi-cultural discourse is diversely formed, and the process of being made a policy of multi-cultural discourse, which had been formed by section.

  • The cultural pluralism on which more and more emphasis is put in the globalized cultural environment, takes local identity as a crucial index for the cultural exchange on the global level, but at the same time it results in transforming individual regions/places into a homogeneous space, as it forces the local identity itself to fit into the standardized global perspective. In this context I focus on two art projects that are related to 'Dongducheon', a town that houses the U. S. Second Infantry Division. These projects attract specific attention due to the fact that Dongducheon is a significant place with very 'thick' cultural identity: it reveals that modernization in Korea took place in intersection of nationalism, patriarchy and gender/sexuality postcolonial (military) culture. With these two Dongducheon related art projects (Donglyung Kim) and (Eunyoung Jeong) as excellent examples of site-specific art practice, this paper asks what it means to keep the historicity of disappearing local space/place in the global era. And how is it possible to 'represent' an extremely gendered/sexualized place like Dongducheon. This should be examined from a postcolonial feminist perspective. Since emancipation from Japanese occupation Dongducheon has been an island or an outside space in the nation-state Korea. This becomes more complicated, as now mostly women from the Philippines or former Soviet countries are working in the nightclubs in Doungducheon. and are feminist activist experiments to make the place with its residents to be seen and heard in proper a way of mourning, recognition and communication. shows the 'new' kijich'on women as those who are daring to be on an 'Odyssey' for a better life as they run everyday life in Dongducheon, working in clubs, doing laundry, bearing children, going to mass; tries to help them to be heard and felt, while it gathers sounds on the street or at mass and shows the doors or narrow alleys which lead to the their rooms. It aims to mourn the dead kijich'on women and to represent the precarious life of the present migrant kijich'on women, as it shows no faces.

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the life experiences of fifteen marriage immigrant Asian women who went through running away from their home countries, marrying with Korean men, divorcing from their husbands, and coping with many difficulties after their divorce in Korean society. In order to conduct this study grounded theory methods have been employed. The central phenomenon digged out from this study was 'resistance to baffled reality' (i. e. dislocation). The causal conditions which brought about the central phenomenon were 'escaping for survival' and 'experiencing the gap between reality and expectation. 'The intervening conditions included 'getting to know the reality of their husbands,' 'losing hope,' and 'not being able to pull themselves together.' The contextual conditions consisted of 'being treated as maids,' 'becoming victims of family violence,' 'making up their minds to survive,' 'securing future life,' 'being marginalized,' and 'being aware of themselves as strangers.' The action/interaction strategies on the central phenomenon were 'building support systems,' 'building up will for new life,' and 'reconstructing social identity.'The final outcome was 'arranging places of new settlement.' The divorce was classified as four types: 'coping and growth,' 'emancipation and settling down,' 'being overwhelmed by livelihood,' and 'continuous wandering.' Based on these results, this study provided a few political and practice suggestions to prevent family violence and divorces among multi-cultural families, and also to bumper the impacts of divorce.

  • Entering the period of Mass Customization, and with the help of the Digital Textile Printing technology, the purpose of this study is to propose two customer involved design process models, based on the Digital Textile Printing technology, and to compare their efficiencies and appropriateness with those of the existing design process model, which would lead us to discover the possibilities of Mass Customized design process. By the result obtained from the survey of 166 females in their twenties and thirties, the second Mass Customized design process model which gave most choices to prosumers was preferred the most, while the existing design process which gave no choice seemed to be preferred the least, and among the design elements of textile, color appeared to be the most significant influential factor in the preference of the clothing by the consumers. In summary, it appeared that every aspect of the society requires a shift in the process of the thought from Mass Production to Mass Customization at this point, and a guideline was made from the Mass Customized design process suggested in this study.
