Effects of Long-term Artificial-Aging on the Hardness Variation of Dissimilar Metal Weldments (이종금속 용접부의 경도변화에 대한 장시간 인공열화의 영향)

  • This study investigates the effects of long-term artificial-aging on hardness variation in the dissimilar metal weldments for nuclear power plant facilities. These dissimilar welds are inevitably required to join the components in nozzle parts of pressurized vessels, such as austenitic stainless steels and ferritic steels. A artificial thermal aging was conducted in an electrical furnace to simulate material degradation at high temperatures. The test materials were held at the temperature of $600^{\circ}C$ for 10000 hours and interrupted at various levels of degraded specimens. The degradation of hardness is a well-known phenomenon resulting from long-term aging or high-temperature degradation of structural materials. In this study, the variation of hardness at each position was different, and complicated in relation to microstructures such as twins, grains, precipitates, phase transformations, and residual stresses in dissimilar weldments. We discussed the variation of hardness in terms of microstructural changes during long-term aging.

  • Most of ferrous b.c.c weld materials may experience martensitic transformation during rapid cooling after welding. And it is well known that volume expansion due to phase transformation could influence in the case of welding of high tensile strength steels on the relaxation of welding residual stress. To apply this effect practically, it is a prerequisite to establish a numerical model which is able to estimate the effect of phase transformation on residual stress relaxation quantitatively. In this study, we investigated the effect of phase transformation on the relaxation of welding residual stress through experiment. And three-dimensional thermal elastic-plastic FEM analysis is conducted to reproduce the effect of phase transformation on the relaxation of welding residual stress. Also we carried out the analysis of welding residual stress in welds of similar or dissimilar steels considering the effect of residual stress relaxation due to phase transformation.

  • In several locations of the pressurized water reactors, dissimilar metal welds using inconel welding wires are used to join the low alloy steel nozzles to stainless steel pipes. To evaluate the integrity and design the dissimilar welds, tensile and fracture properties variations are needed. In this study, dissimilar metal welds composed of SA508 Gr.3 LAS, inconel 82/182 weld, and TP316 stainless steel were prepared by gas tungsten arc welding and shielded metal arc welding technique. Microstructures were observed using optical and electron microscopes. Different tensile and fracture properties were observed depending on the specimen sampling position at room temperature and $320^{\circ}C,$ and that was discussed based on the microstructure characteristics. It was found that the strength at the bottom of weld was greater than at the top of the weld. Also, from the test data using small punch specimen, more detailed tensile property variations were evaluated.

  • Friction welding is a common practice to join axially symmetrical parts for automobile industry applications. The shaft for automobile reverse idle gear is generally produced by forging steel, SF 45. This method is not so good because of high cost of material and production. In this study, in order to investigate the possibility of application of SM 45C to SF 45 dissimilar friction welding, the dissimilar friction welded joints were performed using 20 mm diameter solid bar in forging steel(SF 45) to carbon steel(SM 45C). The optimal friction welding parameters were selected to ensure reliable quality welds on the basis of visual examination, tensile test, micro-Virkers hardness surveys of the bond of area and optical microstructure investigations for welded joint parts. Finally, post weld heat treatment(PWHT) of the high-frequency induction hardening was performed for the friction welded specimens under the optimal welding conditions. And then, the mechanical properties were compared for as-welded and PWHT in SM 45C to SF 45.

A Study on the Prediction of Nugget Diameter of Resistance Spot Welded Part of 1.2GPa Ultra High Strength TRIP Steel for Vehicle (차체용 1.2GPa급 초고장력 TRIP강판의 저항 점 용접부 너겟 지름 예측에 관한 연구)

  • In the automobile industry, in order to increase the fuel efficiency and conform to the safety regulations, it is necessary to make the vehicles as light as possible. Therefore, it is crucial to manufacture dual phase steels, complex phases steels, MS steels, TRIP steels, and TWIP from high strength steels with a tensile strength of 700Mpa or more. In order to apply ultra-high tensile strength steel to the body, the welding process is essential. Resistance spot welding, which is advantageous in terms of its cost, is used in more than 80% of cases in body welding. It is generally accepted that ultra-high tensile strength steel has poor weldability, because its alloy element content is increased to improve its strength. In the case of the resistance spot welding of ultra-high tensile steel, it has been reported that the proper welding condition area is reduced and interfacial fracture and partial interfacial fracture occur in the weld zone. Therefore, research into the welding quality judgment that can predict the defect and quality in real time is being actively conducted. In this study, the dynamic resistance of the weld was monitored using the secondary circuit process variables detected during resistance spot welding, and the factors necessary for the determination of the welding quality were extracted from the dynamic resistance pattern. The correlations between the extracted factors and the weld quality were analyzed and a regression analysis was carried out using highly correlated pendulums. Based on this research, a regression model that can be applied to the field was proposed.

Uncertainty Quantification of Welding Residual Stress Analysis based on Domestic Organizations Round-Robin Evaluation (라운드로빈 평가 결과에 기반한 국내 기관의 용접잔류응력 해석 분포의 불확실성 평가)

  • This paper examines the quantification of uncertainty for welding residual stresses in dissimilar metal welds used in nuclear power plants. A mock-up of a dissimilar metal weld pipe, consisting of carbon and stainless steel pipes, was fabricated to measure the residual stress. A Round-Robin analysis was conducted by Korean institutions to assess the welding residual stress. The analysis was carried out in the second order, and the data obtained by each institution was evaluated based on the information provided. Using the Round-Robin results, the distribution of uncertainty in welding residual stresses among Korean institutions was evaluated. The quantification of uncertainty for Korean institutions was found to have a wider range compared to the distribution of welding residual stresses observed in overseas institutions. This study is considered useful in the establishment of comprehensive strategies for evaluating welding residual stress analysis methods used by domestic institutions.

  • The weld zone of dissimilar formed Al alloy exhibited the complex structure of the two materials and mainly composed of the retreating side material. The mechanical properties were also depended on the dominant microstructure of the weld zone with welding conditions. The different mechanical properties of weld zone with welding conditions were related to the behavior of the precipitates of wrought Al alloy and Si particles of cast Al alloy. The higher mechanical properties of weld were acquired when relatively harder material, wrought Al alloy, was fixed at the retreating side.

  • 2매의 금속을 맞대어 그 한 쪽에 접촉면과 평행하게 고주파진동을 가하면 단 시간에 접합된다. 이공정을 초음파 용접이라고 하며 그 물리적인 본질은 아직 불분명 하지만, 첫째로는 강한 마찰에 의해 금속 자유면의 산화물층이 제거되기 때문이라는 점과 둘째로는 마찰에 의해 금속 표면이 강하게 가열되어 이에 따른 연화에 의해 접합 이 된다고 하는 점이다. 그러나 이와 같이 가열된다고 하더라도 가열은 표면부에만 국한되고 다른 부분은 가열되지 않는다. 따라서 초음파용접은 냉간접합이라고도 한다. 또 가압력과 진동에 의한 힘이 동시에 작용하기 때문에 용접할 면을 미리 청정하게 할 필요는 없고 용접전의 단계에서 자연적으로 청정화가 이루어진다고 하는 사실이 간접 적으로 증명되고 있다. 초음파 용접(Ultrasonic welding)의 특징을 요약하면 고상용접 의 일종으로서 용접중에 국부적으로 고주파 진동에너지와 압력을 가하여 용접하는 방법이다. 이 때 모재를 용융시키지 않고 건전한 야금학적 결합부가 얻어진다는 데에 큰 특징이 있다. 또한 초음파용접은 다른 용접법에 비해 경제성이 매우 높고, 초음파 용접에 필요한 출력이 전기아크 용접에 필요한 출력의 5 - 10%로 충분한 경우가 많다. 초음파 용접은 통상의 방법으로는 용접하기 어려운 동종 금속이나 이종 금속의 용접에 널리 사용된다. 이 용접법은 반도체, 미세회로, 전기 접점의 형성에 대한 생산기술 로서 사용되고 있는데 소형 모터, 알루미늄 박의 가공, 알루미늄 합금의 조립 등에 이용되고 있다. 한편 최근에는 자동차, 우주항공산업 분야의 구조제 용접용으로도 채용되고 있다.출함이 바람직하다.분비되는 배설-분비 항원의 자극과 깊은 관계가 있음을 알 수 있었다.넌트 명세서를 대한 XML DTD(Document Type Definition)를 정의하고, HTML 기반 검색 방법과 XML 기반 검색 방법에 대한 컴포넌트 검색 성능을 비교한다.따라 NO 생산 및 세포독성이 증가하였고.   • Characteristics of the weld defect, such as a blowhole and a pit in lap-jointed fillet Co₂ welds of Zn-coated steel sheet were studied in order to make clear the sequence of the blowhole formation during welding. Main conclusions obtained are as follows: 1) Blowhole, wormhole and pit were found in fillet welds, although the optimum welding condition of 200A-23V-100cm/min was applied. 2) Zn was only detected at the solidification boundary at the early stage of the blowhole formation. 3) Most of the blowholes was started to form at lap-joint by the Zn vapor. With increasing of the Zn vapor and its pressure, the blowhole was develope to th bed surface until the completion of weld solidification. 4) The behavior of the blowhole in growth was similar to that of the columnar dendrite during welding.

Effects of Hybria Welding Parameters on the Toughness of Weld Metal in Ship Structural Steel (조선용강재의 레이저-아크 하이브리드 용접금속부 충격인성에 미치는 용접변수의 영향)

  • Since the 1990's, European shipbuilding industries introduced hybrid welding process in order to decrease thermal distortion of welded joints in passenger shipbuilding. In this study, we investigated effects of hybrid welding parameters on the toughness of weld metal using DH36 steel in order to obtain more sound welds in passenger shipbuilding. Type of leading process, joint gap distance and chemical composition of consumables were considerably correlated with the toughness of weld metal. Especially, the toughness was considerably increased with high-Ti containing consumables. In addition, hybrid welding speed increased by using plasma cut edges, the oxides layer of which increased absorption efficiency of laser beam.
