Performance Analysis on the Ejector System in Flue-gas Discharge Channel of Marine Incinerator (소각기의 배기가스 유로에 이젝터를 적용한 시스템의 성능 분석)

  • The International Maritime Organization(IMO) could try to adopt more severe amendment to prevent any air pollution from various waste materials by marine incinerator. This study is to analyse the performance improvement through Ansys CFD about new invented system which has three flue-gas discharge channels and sub-ejector installed in the dischage channel in order to evacuate flue-gas well from the combustion chamber. The results showed that the discharge temperature of flue-gas was below the regulated value of IMO by the multi-channels, and the sub-ejector system installed in the discharge channel was highly effective one to improve the flue-gas discharge ability.

  • In this study, an ejector was designed to recirculate the anodic off-gas of SOFC, and a parametric study of the system performance was conducted at various ejector entrainment ratios. Aspen Plus, a chemical engineering program, was used to calculate the operational conditions of the ejector. To minimize the calculation load of the CFD and to ensure the global optimum, a genetic algorithm and Kriging model were used for the optimization. The optimization results showed that the dominant design variables of the sonic ejector are the throat diameter and the first flow nozzle position. The designed ejector has enough flexibility for different operating conditions of a 1-kW SOFC system. When the ejector was applied to the SOFC, it reduced 56% of the steam and 8.4% of the fuel compared to the reference case.

  • 이젝터-디퓨저 시스템은 고압의 기체를 노즐로 팽창시켜서 얻은 대량의 운동에너지를 이용하여 낮은 에너지를 가지는 주변의 기체를 외부로 배출시키는데 이용되는 유체 역학적 펌프이다. 이젝터-디퓨저 시스템은 작동부가 없고 구조가 단순하여 설치/보수 및 시스템 전체의 경량화에 많은 이점이 있으므로 그 활용도가 증대하고 있는 추세이다. 그러나 이젝터-디퓨저를 지나는 초음속 유동은 복잡한 충격파 및 난류현상들로 인하여 그 물리적 특성들이 명확히 알려지지 않았다. 특히 이러한 제현상들의 간섭과 전단층의 불안정성 때문에 발생하는 비정상성은 1차 유동과 2차 유동의 혼합작용에 영향을 미쳐, 결국 시스템 전체의 배기성능을 저하시킬 뿐만 아니라, 소음과 진동을 발생시켜 시스템의 안정적인 운전을 방해한다.

Pressure Recovery in a Supersonic Ejector of a High Altitude Turbofan Engine Testing Chamber (터보팬 엔진의 고고도 성능의 초음속 이젝터의 압력회복에 관한 연구)

  • This research aims in finding a more optimal ejector size for evacuating engine exhaust gasses and 20% of the cell cooling air. The remaining 80% of cell cooling air pumped into the test chamber is separately exhausted from the test chamber via a discharge port fitted with flow control valves and vacuum pump. Unlike its predecessor this configuration utilizes a smaller capture area to improve pressure recovery. The modified ejector size has a diameter of 1100mm enough to evacuate 66kg/s jet engine exhaust in addition to about 20%, 24kg/s of the cell cooling air tapped from the sterling chamber. This configurations has an area ratio of the engine exit and ejector inlet of about 1.2. Simulation results of the proposed ejector configuration, indicates improved pressure recovery.

  • This study aims at finding an optimal exhaust diffuser design of a high altitude testing chamber for a low bypass turbofan engine (F404-402) with thrust pound force of 17,700 and air mass flow rate of 66kg/s ejecting at a speed of Mach 1.66. The final proposed ejector size has better pressure recovery characteristics and targets to reduce operational cost at engine performance testing. Conventional high altitude test chamber layout was adopted and first drawn in two dimensions using Autocad software so as to determine the gas path, the ejector frontal size was then determined from gas dynamics equations considering traditional gas ejection method where both the engine exhaust and cell cooling air are exhausted via the ejector. Modification to a smaller ejector with an alternative secondary cell cooling exhaust port was then performed and modelled in 3D using Solid Works software.

  • An experimental study was performed to investigate the optimal ejector and operating condition of vessel incinerator. Exhaust gas temperature and secondary air which makes vacuum pressure at ejector throat regions were considered as an important factor. According to the measurement of pressure temperature and nitrogen oxides between non combustion and combustion we found the stream and exhaust gas characteristics of incinerator. This results can give us the exhaust gas temperature control system air pollutant reduction method and the optimum ejector design.

  • Korea Aerospace Research Institute started on design and development of a hypersonic air-breathing engine test facility from 2000 and completed the test facility installation in July 2009. This facility, designated as Scramjet engine test facility(SeTF), is a blow-down type high enthalpy wind tunnel which has a pressurized air supply system, air heater system, free-jet test chamber, fuel supply system, facility control/measurement system and exhaust system. In this paper, details of the specifications, and configuration of the SeTF are described. For verifying characteristics of the SeTF, wind tunnel tests are now on progress and some of the data are also described.

  • An internal flow aerodynamic test was performed for a Mach 5 scramjet engine. The test was done without fuel injection, as a preliminary test for the combustion test. Test engine is an engineering model with intake cross-section of $70mm{\times}200mm$ and total length of 1.7m. Test facility is a blowdown-type, high enthalpy, hypersonic facility. 19 pressures were measured through the holes on the model surface along the engine internal flow passage. It was found that the facility start is possible, and also supersonic flow is maintained inside the engine.
