Stiffness Degradation and Unconfined Strength of the Chemically Grouted Sand Subjected to Cyclic Shear (반복전단을 받는 고화 처리토의 강성저하와 일축압축강도)

  • The performance of the improved soil against liquefaction depends upon the chemical density, and it has been decided on the basis of the unconfined compressive strength of the improved soil up to date. On the other hand, several authors have proposed that the stiffness degradation could be treated as the clue for the judgment of the possibility of liquefaction. In this study, therefore, the stiffness degradation of the improved soil was estimated as the resistance against liquefaction by using the strain controlled cyclic triaxial test equipment. Based on the test results, it is concluded that the chemically treated sand can resist against the liquefaction in aspect of the reduction in effective stress and in the stiffness. Furthermore, even in the case of low chemical density, such as 2% in this study, has enough liquefaction resistance when compared with the 5~6% which often used in practical design. Considering this fact, the design of chemical density based on the unconfined strength can lead the overestimation in chemical density, and chemical density can be reduced when considering the stiffness reduction shown in this study.

  • 본 논문에서는 다양한 음향 가진에 따른 음향 응답을 유한 요소법을 통하여 효과적으로 계산하기 위한 새로운 모델 축소법을 제안한다. 일반적인 유한 요소법을 통한 기계구조물의 응답을 구하기 위해서는 음향 방정식의 강성 및 행렬을 구한 뒤 이들의 조합을 통한 동적 강성행렬을 구한 뒤 역행렬을 구하여 다양한 주파수 응답을 구하게 된다. 현재 컴퓨터 하드웨어의 발전과 소프트 웨어의 발전에 의하여 더 많은 유한 요소를 사용할 수 있게 되었고 이로 인하여 더욱 정확하고 넓은 대역의 음향 응답을 구할 수 있게 되었다. 그러나, 아직까지도 아주 복잡한 구조물의 음향 응답을 구하기 위하여 유한 요소를 무한정으로 증가할 수 없는 경우가 많다. 이를 해결하기 위하여 일반적으로 모델 축소법(Model order reduction) 기법을 사용한다. 이 모델 축소법은 기본적으로 전체 행렬을 아주 작지만 효율적인 작은 행렬로 바꾸어 응답을 예측하는 기법으로 mode superposition method, ritz vector method, quasi-static ritz vector method등이 있다. 기존의 모델 축소법은 기본적으로 질량 및 강성행렬이 가진 주파수에 영향을 받지 않는 행렬이라 가정한다. 그렇기 때문에 경계조건이나 다공성 재료를 모델링할 경우 가진 주파수에 영향을 받는 강성행렬과 질량행렬이 만들어지게 되어 기존의 모델 축소법은 효과적이지 못하게 된다. 이런 문제점을 해결하기 위하여 이 논문에서는 Quasi-static ritz vector method의 기본적인 개념을 확장하여 여러 개의 중심 주파수(Center frequency)에서 기저를 계산하고 이를 동시에 이용하는 Multi-frequency quasi-static ritz vector method를 제안한다.

A Experimental Study on the Stiffness Characteristics of Elastomeric Bearings (탄성받침의 강성특성에 대한 실험연구)

  • This paper intends to enhance the reliability and performance of domestic elastomeric bearings through the proposal of directions for the improvement of their stiffness regard to the Korean industrial standard KS F 4420 relative to the evaluation of design/fabrication/quality. Therefore, comparative analysis of the compressive elastic modulus, stiffness measurement method and performance evaluation method of KS F 4420 with those of Eurocode, Japanese bearing manual, and ISO code was performed, and measurement tests on the compressive stiffness and shear stiffness of common elastomeric bearings produced in Korea were conducted. The experimental results reveal that differences of about 20% and 13% occurred respectively for the compressive stiffness and shear stiffness according to the definition adopted for the stiffness. The measured values for the stiffness of the domestic elastomeric bearings were also verified to exhibit large deviation from the formula proposed by KS F 4420. Elastomeric bearings that does not have appropriate compressive stiffness required at the design can result in uneven deflection at supports of bridges and excessive stress in girders. Accordingly, the establishment of compressive elastic modulus formula and performance evaluation criteria fitted to the domestic circumstances through the execution of performance evaluation of bearings presenting diversified shapes and shape factors appears to be necessary for the domestic bearings to meet the performance required in design.

  • The excellent load transfer at transverse joints ensures the high performance of jointed plane concrete pavements(JPCP). Load transfer efficiency(LTE) is affected by dowel-bars, aggregate interlock and types of underlying layers, and these factors have to be modelled adequately for a reasonable analysis of JPCP. Generally, the joint stiffness has been represented by a spring model for the shear transfer by aggregate interlock or dowels. However dowel-bars, aggregate interlock and types of underlying layers have not been considered together in the design of joints. In this study, the joint stiffness that considered those factors was presented by comparing LTE obtained using FWD(Falling Weight Deflectometer) with theoretical results obtained using the finite element analysis. In addition, the effects of temperature and concrete age, on the joint stiffness were investigated.

  • 자연암석절리 및 인공 절리에 대하여 일정수직응력제어, 일정 수직하중제어 그리고 무한 강성제어가 가능한 암석 절리면 전단기 시험기를 개발하였다. 이 시험기는 전단변위에 의한 첩촉면적의 변화량을 계산하여 하중변화량을 조절하여 일정수직응력상태를 유지한다. 수직하중에 따른 시험기 강성에 의한 변화향이 제어 프로그램 내에서 제어되어 순수한 시편의 변위량을 출력하도록 하였다. 전단하중에 따른 시험기 강성에 의한 변위량은 상, 하부 전단상자의 상대변위 측정으로 최소화하였다. 전단거동 중의 자유도는 전당방향에 대하여 수평이도, 연직이동, 피칭, 롤링이 가능하도록 하였다. 자연절리면을 모사한 석고시편에 대하여 일정 수직응력 제어, 일정수직하중제어 그리고 무한 강성제어 조건으로 시험하여 제어상태 검증 및 비교를 하였다. 또한 경사각이 16.7˚와 22.6˚인 톱니형 시편에 대하여 시험한 결과 경사각 16.7˚와 22.6˚는 JRC로 10과 15를 나타내었으며, 첨두팽창각이 첨두전단강도에서 발생되며, Barton의 모델과 잘 일치함을 보였다.

Influence of Stiffness Coefficients on Optical Performance in Composite Optical Substrate (강성계수가 복합재 광학판 성능에 미치는 영향성 연구)

  • The extensional stiffness in quasi-isotropic laminates is uniform in the radial direction, but the bending stiffness varies radially due to the stacking sequence. This paper addresses the directional dependency of the bending stiffness and its radial variation in three types of quasi-isotropic laminate reflectors consisting of unidirectional fiber composite materials (UDM) and randomly distributed composite materials (short fiber, RDM). The extensional stiffness and bending stiffness in optical reflectors using RDM are uniform, while the bending stiffness in those using UDM varies radially from 11% to 26%. Also, the stiffness sensitivity, such as the bend-twist or bend-torsion effect, due to the differences in the stiffness value in the composite, is large. These factors are problematic in the optical field requiring precision surfaces. Utilizing RDM might be one way to eliminate the presence of bending stiffness in composite mirror substrates.

  • 모든 가정과 심지어 회사, 공장 등 어느 곳에서든 하수관은 꼭 필요하다. 이런 다양한 환경에서 발생하는 하수를 옮겨 주는 것이 바로 하수관이기 때문이다. 이처럼 꼭 필요한 하수관은 일반적으로 PE(Polyethylene Solid Sewer Pipe) 하수관이 사용되고 있다. 수요가 많기는 하지만 기존 PE 하수관이 뛰어난 성능을 가지고 있는 것은 아니다. 강성이부족하고 내면이 매끄럽지 않아 오폐물이 침전되어 오폐수의 수통이 원활하지 못하고 이로 인하여 하수관 유지 및 보수에 많은 비용이 발생하였던 것이 사실이다. 또, 강성이 부족하기 때문에 많은 부분에서 사용의 제약이 뒤따랐다. 도로 밑에서의 PE 하수관 설치를 제한하였던 것이 바로 이런 이유 때문이다.

Static and Dynamic Behavior of Disk Bearings under Railway Vehicle Loading (철도차량하중에 의한 디스크받침의 정·동적 거동특성)

  • The goal of this study is to ases the static and dynamic behavior of disk bearings under railway vehicle loadings. Several static tests were conducted in a laboratory t bearings, all having the same kind of polyurethane disk as used in the static tests, were installed under a full-sized railway bridge and tested with a running locomotive, the tests results, the static and dynamic stiffness of the disk bearings were estimated and compared. the deformation of the disk bearings under the bridge was measured at varying disk bearing was almost half of that under dynamic loading. In addition, the dynamic stiffness of the fixed disk bearing was 80% higher than that of an expansion disk bearing, since the PTFE in the expansion bearing is displaced. The deformation of the disk bearing did not vary significantly with changes in locomotive's speed. The results of this study can contribute to fast-tracking the formulation of a design technique for disk bearings for railway bridges.

Deformation Based Seismic Design of Asymmetric Wall Structures (변형에 기초한 비대칭 벽식 주초의 내진설계)

  • Current torsional provisions focus n restricting torsional effect of asymmetric wall structures by proportioning strength of wall based on the traditional assumption that stiffness and strength are independent. Recent studies have pointed out that stiffness of structural wall is dependent on the strength. This implies that actual stiffness of walls can be determined only after torsional design is finished and current torsional provisions may result in significant errors. To overcome this shortcoming, this paper proposes deformation based torsional design for asymmetric wall structures. Contrary to the current torsional provisions, deformation-based torsional design uses displacement and rotation angle as design parameters and calculates base shear for inelastic torsional response directly. Main purpose of deformation based torsional design is not to restrict torsional response but to ensure intended torsional mechanism according to the capacity design concept. Because displacement and rotation angle can be used as performance criteria indicating performance level of asymmetric structures, this method can be applied to the performance based seismic design effectively.

Direct Control of Displacement Using Displacement and Resistance Force Contribution Factor (변위 및 내력기여도계수를 이용한 정량적 변위 제어)

  • The paper presents a direct method for the diplacement control and stiffness redesign using displacement and response force contribution factors. At first, these two kinds of factors are derived and the relationship between them is examined. An equation to evaluate the change of displacement according to the change of each member stiffness is proposed. For the statically determinate structures, the proposed equation gives the exact solution with no approximation. But it has some error in case of statically indeterminate structures because the redistribution of response forces is neglected in the equation. However, the equation may be very useful even for statically indeterminate structures because it provides the relationship between the member stiffness and the global displacement. The proposed method is expected to be useful for the displacement control of large space or hi-rise building structures where the stiffness design governs the design result.
