The CKD extract is wastewater from which KCl in CKD has been removed to reuse CKD as a cement raw material, and tried to reuse no extracts due to problems such as wastewater treatment facility expansion. As a result of removing KCl by the ion exchange method, the pH of the extract after ion exchange decreased from 12.7 to less than pH 2, and it was confirmed that H+ of the cation exchange resin was dissolved in the extract through ion exchange. In addition, the selectivity of the ion exchange was removed in the order of Ca2+, K+, it was determined that the increase in the contact time to remove the K+ ions. The batch system had a contact time of 6 times or more, compared to the continuous system, and showed 4 times of K+ removal efficiency and 7 times of Cl- removal efficiency. It was showed by analyzing the pH of the extract that more H+ of the cation exchange resin was extracted than OH- of anion exchange resin as the pH of the extract was changed.
Removal of metal ions on the ultrafiltration membrane with micellar-enhanced with anion surfactants is a recently developed technique which can remove heavy metals and small molecular weight ions from wastewater with simple separation process and without a phase change. Above a certain concentration, so called the critical micelle con binding cationic cobalt ions and anionic surfactants, were removed by ultrafiltration membrane. The transmembrane pressure difference had a relatively small effect on the rejection coefficient of metal ions on the ultrafiltration membrane whereas the level of anionic surfactant-to-metal ratio (S/M) had a substantial effect.

Currently, Ash-free clean coal producing process by solvent extraction is under development. The produced ash-free clean coal can be directly combusted in a gas turbine which results in substantial improvement of power generation efficiency. However, the clean coal produced by the solvent extraction still contain trace amount of alkali metal which may cause corrosion on turbine blades during the direct combustion. In present work ${\alpha},{\beta}$-metal (Zr and Ti) phosphates and H-Y zeolite were synthesized and their ion exchange characterizations were investigated for the application on alkali metal removal for clean coal production. $Na^+$ ion removal capacities of the metal phosphates and H-Y zeolite were measured and compared in both aqueous solution (100 ppmw, $Na^+$) and coal dissolved N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone (NMP, 12 ppmw $Na^+$) at elevated temperature. In aqueous solution, the ${\beta}$ form metal phosphates showed very high ion exchange capacities compared to ${\alpha}$ form. ${\beta}$ form metal phosphates also showed higher $Na^+$ removal capacities than H-Y zeolite. In ion exchange medium of NMP, all the ${\alpha}$ form metal phosphates showed over 90% of $Na^+$ ion removal efficiency in the temperature range of 200 to 400 while that of H-Y zeolite decreased as a half when the temperature was over 350. In addition, the regenerated metal phosphates by acid treatment showed no sign of degradation in $Na^+$ removal efficiency. Among the metal phosphates used, $Zr_{0.75}Ti_{0.25}(HPO_4)_2$ showed the best performance in $Na^+$ removal and is expected to be the most suitable inorganic ion exchanger for the alkali metal removal process.

The present study evaluate the chloride extracion under electrochemical chloride extraction method. Chloride was penetrated into the concrete from external reservoir using a 4M NaCl solution, and an electrochemical chloride extraction method was applied after the curing period of 1 year. The current density was constantly kept 1000 mA/m2 for coulostatic application with the variation in potential difference. The duration of the ECE treatment was 2, 4, 8 weeks, respectively. The residual chloride concentration at all depths decreased, and the chloride concentration decreased as the application period increased. After the application period of 8 weeks, 62.9 to 77.6 % of chloride extracted in the total chloride profile, and 77.7 to 99.5 % of chloride extracted in the free chloride profile. In particular, the concentration of free chloride at a depth of 7 mm or more from the concrete surface was 0.01 % or less by cement. In addition, it was confirmed that the bound chloride could be extracted by the electrochemical chloride extraction.
Continuous ion exchange characteristics of the synthetic coolant contained Ni, Co and Ag ions of low concentration in acidic-oxidizing conditions have been studied to suggest the guideline for the optimum operation of mixed-bed demincralizer during the shutdown period of a pressurized water reactor (PWR). In the effect of the form of cation resins on the removal capacity of metal ions, the performance of a $H^+$-form resin was about 6% higher than that of a $Li^+$-form resin. Mixed-bed of cation and anion resins in comparison with nonmixed-bed of them, had no affected on the removal capacity of metal ions but very slightly increased the slope of breakthrough curves of metal ions. In the effect related to acidic-oxidizing conditions of the coolant, the addition of boric acid very slightly decreased the slope of breakthrough curves of metal ions, while the addition of hydrogen peroxide slightly decreased the removal capacity of metal ions.
Because several wood barks are massively produced in the forest area of Chungbuk province, it is required to develop technologies for their effective utilization. In this study, three kinds of barks from Robina pseudoacacie, Pinus densiflora, and Castanea crenata were used to remove water-soluble cadmium ions having 10, 20, 50, and 100 mg/L concentrations in each batch experiments, and R. pseudoacacie bark was selected as the most excellent biosorbent. Also, treatments with various acids and bases were performed to increase the removal efficiency of 100 mg/L cadmium ions using R. pseudoacacie bark as a biosorbent. When R. pseudoacacie bark was modified with 0.5 M KOH, the relatively high removal efficiency and adsorption amount of cadmium ions were obtained. In addition, when 9 M KOH-treated R. pseudoacacie bark was used for 30 min, the highest removal efficiency of 100 mg/L cadmium ions was 84.3%. Therefore, this experimental result can be effectively used as an environmental-friendly bioremediation technology to remove cadmium ions existed with various concentrations in water bodies and soils.
Three types of adsorbents were developed by immobilizing synthetic zeolite, Philipsite-Gismonine, in alginate, cellulose acetate and dialysis membrane for the in situ removal of ammonium ion which inhibits growth and productivity of animal cells such as CHO cells producing tPA. Ammonium ion removal efficiency and cell growth promoting effect with various immobilized adsorbents were evaluated and the membrane type was selected as an optimal immobilized adsorbent. The experiments were then simulated by adding 8mM ammonium chloride and immobilized adsorbent in order to validate the removal effect under high density cell cultures. The results showed increase in maximum cell density by three times, in cell viability, and in tPA productivity by 40%. And it was found that the promoting effects were more significant in case of high ammonium ion concentration system. It was also found that the optimum addition time for immobilized adsorbents was 48 hr in the absence of ammonium chloride addition and 72 hr in the presence of ammonium chloride addition.
