Purpose: The present study was to investigate the effect of music therapy on anxiety, nausea, and vomiting in patients undergoing total body irradiation (TBI) for hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT). Method: A untreated control group with pretest and posttest was used in this study. A total of 35 patients receiving TBI for HSCT were recruited from a medical center at a university in Korea. The music therapy taking for 15-20 minutes per a time was performed twice a day for three days while the patients in the experimental group were undergoing the TBI. Results: The scores of state anxiety, nausea and vomiting tended to increase in the control group as compare with those in the experimental group. The patients in the control group had been administerd antiemetics more often than those in the experimental group. The levels of systolic and diastolic blood pressure and the pulse rates in the experimental group tended to decrease after the experiment. However, there was no statistically significant differences in anxiety, nausea, vomiting, blood pressure, and pulse between the groups. Conclusion: It is suggested to repeat this study with a enough sample size.

We studied effects of Samreungjeon water extract (SE) on the proliferation of transplanted-L1210 cells to mice. Samreungjeon is composed of Scirpi Tuber, Zedoariae Rhizoma, Aurantii immaturi Pericarpium, Pinelliae Tuber and Hordei Fructus Germinatus. When SE (500 mg/kg) was administered orally once a day for 7 days after transplantation of L1210 cells to mice, the proliferation of transplanted-L1210 cells was decreased and DNA fragmentation of transplanted-L1210 cells was induced. Also, DNA fragmentation of L1210 cells was enhanced by co-culture with the peritoneal macrophages obtained from SE-administered mice and was partly inhibited by L-NMMA in vitro. SE enhanced the production of nitric oxide from murine peritoneal macrophages in vitro and in vivo. These results suggest that SE partly induces apoptosis of transplanted-L1210 cells via production of nitric oxide from macrophages.

품사 태그세트 매핑은 서로 다른 품사 태그세트로 태깅되어 있는 대량의 코퍼스들로부터 정보를 얻고 또한 제공함을 통해 코퍼스의 재사용성(reusability)을 높이는데 유용하게 사용된다. 본 논문은 포항공대 자연언어처리 연구실의 자연언어처리 엔진(SKOPE)의 품사 태거(POSTAG)에서 사용되는 태그세트와 한국전자통신연구원의 표준 태그세트 간의 양방향 태그세트 매핑을 다룬다. 매핑을 통해 표준태그세트로 태깅된 코퍼스로부터 POSTAG를 위한 대용량 학습자료를 얻고 POSTAG 가 두 가지 태그세트로 결과를 출력할 수 있다. 특히 한국어 태그세트 매핑에서 발생할 수 있는 여러 가지 문제점들, 즉 사전 표제어 차이 (형태소 분할 차이), 태그 할당 차이, 축약 처리 차이 등과 그것들의 기계적인 해결책을 살펴보고, 태그세트 매핑의 정확도를 측정하기 위해서 매핑 전과 후의 태깅 시스템의 정확도를 서로 비교함으로써 매핑의 정확도를 측정하는 실험을 수행하였다. 본 자동 매핑 방법을 반영한 POSTAG 는 제 1회 형태소 분석기 평가 대회(MATEC'99)에 적용되어 성공적으로 사용되었다.

A method for shape design sensitivity analysis for axisymmetric shells of general shapes is developed. The basic approach is to divide the structures into many segments : For each of the segments, the formula for a shallow arch or shell can be applied and the results assembled. To interconnect those segments, the existing sensitivity formula, obtained for a variation only in the direction perpendicular to the plane on which the structure is mapped, has been extended to include a variation normal to the middle surface. The method follows the adjoint variable approach based on the material derivative concept as established in the literature. Numerical examples are taken to illustrate the method and the applicability to practical design problems.

Ultraviolet irradiation of the vegetal hemisphere of the fertilized frog egg prior to first cleavage resulted in alterations in neural morphogenesis. The sensitivity to UV irradiation dropped drastically at the point of 2/3 time lapse between fertilization and the appearance of the first cleavage furrow. Scannining electron micrographs revealed a decrease in size of the cells on the surface of the irradiated embryos. However, ectoderm exchange frafts indicated that the ectoderm of the irradiated embryo retains its capaciiy to form a completely normal neural morphology and epidermal surface. These facts were interpreted in terms of a decrease in the capacity for invagination during gastrulation, and subsequent primary embryonic induction.

Since the first success of simple mastoidectomy, about 100 years ago by Schwartze (1873). Zollner (1951) and Wullstein (1952) had formulated systemically the basic principles of restorative surgery of chronic ear diseases. Although the last century has shown a remarkable advances in surgical technique, there are still lots of debatable problems yet. The authors experienced 970 cases of middle ear surgery during last four years and clinical and statistical analysis were done as a preliminary report.

Extensive avulsion of the scalp, or stripping of a large area of soft tissue from the skull, is a serious accidnet. The avulsed scalp is often injured otherwise, such as by crushing, tearing, or from multiple laceration. The surrounding skin may be devitalized. Replacement of the scalp is usually followed by necrosis and sloughing within a short time. In such instances, the outer table of the cranium may become sucessively exposed. dry, dead, and affected by osteomyelitis. Hence the securing of early healing to prevent these is of the utmost importance. The successful case of reimplantation of the completely avulsed scalp, which is exposured to air for about 14 hours, is reported, in which there was partial growth of hair afterwards. The avulsed scalp caused by her long hair being caught in a grain belt was contaminated with hairs & dust. Authors treated this 19-year old female patient by split thickness skin graft, intermediate skin graft, full thickness skin graft from her own avulsed scalp.

Coronary artery involvement in Takayasu's arteritis is a relatively rare, and potentially lethal but surgically correctable disease. A 28-year-old female was admitted for the evaluation of headache associated with dizziness, palpitation and claudication of left arm. Her aortogram and coronary angiogram showed Takayasu's arteritis with bilateral coronary ostial stenosis. We performed bilateral coronary ostioplasty with saphenous vein patch graft. The patient was discharged in good condition. We report this case with literature review.

To investigate the inhibitory effects of Citaowan (CTW) on the growth and angiogenesis of breast cancer in vivo. Orthotopic breast cancer model was established by injection of MDA-MB-231 cells into mammary fat pad of nude mice. Seven weeks after injection, CTW was orally administered at dose of 50, 100 mg/mouse every day for 40 days. Body weight, tumor volume, tumor apoptosis, microvessel density and tumor proliferation were evaluated, after the mice were sacrificed. The body weight and tumor volume were not significantly changed in CTW group compared with the control group. Tumor apoptosis, proliferation and microvessel density were significantly reduced in CTW group (100 mg/mouse) compared with the control group. These data indicate that CTW has anti-angiogenic and proapoptotic effects on breast cancer.

Forced orthodontic eruption(FOE) is a non-surgical treatment approach that allows augmenting both soft- and hard-tissue profiles of potential implant sites, by forced orthodontic extrusion of "hopeless" teeth and their periodontal apparatus. By stretching the gingival and periodontal ligament fibers during extrusion, tension is imparted to the entire alveolar socket, stimulating osseous apposition at the alveolar crest. FOE increases the width of the attached gingiva, and the mucogingival junction remains stable when the gingival margin migrates coronally. Based on these effects, FOE of non-restorable teeth prior to implant placement is a viable alternative to conventional surgical augmentative procedures in implant site development. The aim of this case report is to describes coronal soft-tissue augmentation around fractured teeth, which was achieved by FOE before implant placement.
