Inhibition Effects of Natural Products on Osteoclast Differentiation (천연물 추출물의 파골세포 분화억제 효과 검색)

  • In bone remodeling imbalances that are caused by increased bone resorption over bone formation lead to adult skeletal diseases. Thus, we have screened various natural products for their ability to regulate the differentiation of osteoclasts to propose candidates for the prevention or treatment of osteoporosis. Scutellaria baicalensis Georgi and Zizyphus Jujuba Miller var. extracts of 140 natural products inhibited the differentiation of RAW264.7 cells into osteoclast, as showed by the reduced number of tartrate resistant acid phosphatase(TRAP)-positive multinucleated cells and decreased TRAP activity.

  • The relationship between rice and the fluid during cooking was investigated to examine the factors affecting the quality of cooked rice and a new rice cooking method was proposed to improve the unpalatability of aged Milyang 23-long grain rice variety. The changes of heights of rice-bed and the fluid during cooking were measured with a laboratory cooking apparatus made of flat bottomed graduated glass cylinder. Around the boiling, a sudden disappearance of the fluid was observed and then thin film was formed on the rice grains. This film coating was fortified by the addition of 1-2%(w/w) of glutinous rice powder as a film forming agent. The artificial coating on the cooked rice of low quality remarkably improved the gloss, moisture content and shape and the extent of leaching of rice solid into the fluid was reduced with the treatment.

  • Sparassis crispa fruits were extracted in 80 % MeOH, and the concentrated extract was partitioned into EtOAc, n-butyl alcohol, and water fractions. The repeated octadecyl $SiO_2$ and silica gel ($SiO_2$) column chromatographies for the EtOAc and nbutyl alcohol fractions led to isolation of two ergosterol peroxides. There chemical structures were determined as ($3{\beta}$,$5{\alpha}$,$8{\alpha}$,22E)-5,8-Epidioxyergosta-6,22-dien-3-ol (ergosterol peroxide) (1) and 3-O-${\beta}$-D-glucopyranosyl ergosterol peroxide (2) based on spectroscopic data analyses including nuclear magnetic resonance, infrared spectrometry, and mass spectrometry (MS). Compounds 1 and 2 were for the first time isolated from S. crispa in this study.

Changes in antioxidant activities and flavor patterns of Coffea arabica beans during roasting (아라비카 커피의 배전 중 항산화 및 향기패턴의 변화)

  • Brazil (Monte Alegro) and Ethiopia (Sidamo) coffee beans were roasted at three different roasting levels(light, medium, and dark), and were analyzed for color, total phenolic compound, caffeine, and chlorogenic acid contents. The total phenolic and caffeine contents remained unchanged during roasting. The chlorogenic acid levels of the Brazil and Ethiopia samples decreased with roasting. The antioxidant activities were measured using DPPH and ABTS. The radical scavenging activities of the light-roasted and dark-roasted coffee beans were similar. The flavor patterns of roasted coffee beans were analyzed using an electronic nose system based on gas chromatography. The data revealed that the flavor patterns of the roasted coffee beans could be separated via discriminant function analysis (DFA) method. The taste of the roasted coffee beans was analyzed using an electronic tongue system. The sourness and sweetness were decreased with roasting.

Harmonized Non-linear Interaction Between Different Two Vortex Shedding Frequencies (서로 다른 두 개의 와류방출 주파수간의 비선형간섭)

  • This study analyzes the nonlinear interaction between two different vortex shedding frequencies from a cylinder with two diameters. In particular, two different vortex shedding frequencies are generated by preparing a cylinder having two diameters artificially. Flow velocity fluctuations behind the cylinder are measured three-dimensionally. Additionally, we fabricated a hole and placed a pressure transducer for measuring the pressure on the cylinder surface. The pressure signal from the pressure transducer is used as basic signal. A TSC(Trans Spectrum Coherence) is used for checking the strength of the nonlinear interaction between two different vortex shedding frequencies. As a result, the following are clarified: i) frequency distribution behind the cylinder, ii) three-dimensional flow state behind the cylinder through calculation of ensemble average, and iii) close relationship between the vertical vortex and change of low frequency by nonlinear interaction between two different vortex shedding frequencies from the cylinder with two diameters.

The Effect of Bee Venom & melittin Herbal acupuncture solution to Apoptosis in NG pretreated neuroblastoma cell line (Bee Venom 및 Melittin 약침액(藥鍼液)이 신경마비물질(神經麻痺物質)을 처치(處置)한 신경아세포종(神經芽細胞腫)의 세포사(細胞死)에 미치는 영향(影響))

  • Objective : This study is designed to investigate the effects of bee venom and melittin on cell death in neuroblastoma cell line after pretreatment with NG(nerve growth inhibitory substance) Methods : It was evaluated by using MTT assay, morphological method, DNA fragmenation, flow cytometry, immunocytochemistry analysis, RT-PCR and Western blot. Results : The MTT assay demonstrated that neuroblastoma cell viability was significantly inhibited dose-dependently by treatment with bee venom and melittin after pretreatment with NG in comparison awith control. The morphological study and fow cytometry demonstrated that neuroblastoma cell showed apoptosis. DNA fragmenation showed DNA ladder below 1 Kbp. Immunocytochemistry assay demonstrated that Fos and MAPK were down-regulated. RT-PCR analysis demonstrated that Fos and MAPK was down-regulated. Western blot demonstrated that Fos and MAPK were down-regulated from $1{\mu}g/ml$ bee venom in neuroblastoma cell pretreated with NG. Conclusion : These result suggests that bee venom and melittin after NG treatment have significant anti-cancer effect and further study is needed in vivo.

The Finite Depth Effect on the Ship Motion in Longitudinal Regular Head Waves (종규칙파중(縱規則波中)에서 수심(水深)이 선체운동(船體運動)에 미치는 영향(影響))

  • Recently, as the dimensions of energy carriers increase, especially in draft, a reliable prediction of the ship motions at finite depths of water becomes necessary. The purpose of this paper is to probe the effect of finite water depth on the hydrodynamic forces and ship motions, particularly heave and pitch, in longitudinal regular head waves, by comparing the experimental value of Freakes and Keay with the author's theoretical value obtained by applying the modified strip theory to the Mariner class ship. It is confirmed that generally the hydrodynamic coefficients in the equations of motion increase with decreasing water depth, and the wave exciting forces and moments decrease with decreasing water depth. Amplitudes of heave and pitch in longitudinal regular head waves decrease as the water depth in the range where the length of the incident wave is comparatively long. The effects of Froude Number on the hydrodynamic coefficients increase with decreasing water depth and is more noticeable in the case of heave than pitch. In heave, generally the discrepancy between the experimental value and the theoretical value is relatively small in the case of $F_n=O$, but it is very large in the case of $F_n=0.2$. It is considered that the trend stems from the ignorance of the three dimensional effect and the other effects due to shallowness of water on the hydrodynamic coefficients in the theoretical calculation. An extension of methods for calculating the two dimensional hydrodynamic forces to included the effect of forward speed should be recommended. It is required that more experimental works in finite water depths will be carried out for correlation studies between the theoretical calculation, according tp modified strip theory, and model experiments.

  • 이동 및 정보통신 시스템이 소형화 및 고성능화됨에 따라 System OR Package (SOP) 기술의 연구개발이 주목을 받고 있다. 저가형 SOP를 위하여 가장 많은 연구가 다층인쇄회로 기판에 수동소자 및 전송선로를 내장시키는 것이다. 본 논문에서는, 8층 KB 기판에 Meander line과 Radial/T Stub 패턴을 Advanced Design System(ADS) simulation을 이용하여 설계 및 제작하고 분석함으로써 정확한 SOP 디자인 및 설계 방향을 제시하고자 한다. 설계변수-패턴의 length, width, spacing, 각도와 공정변수-1층/3층, 기판 재질(prepreg(PP)과 resin coated copper(RCC))을 두어 제작하여 그 특성을 비교하였다. Meander Line는 PP보다 RCC에서의 인덕턴스가 크고 높은 자가 공진주파수를 가졌고, 3층보다 1층에서의 인덕턴스가 안정적이었다. Radial/T Stub는 PP보다 RCC에서의 커패시턴스가 작으나, 높은 자가 공진 주파수로 커패시턴스가 안정적이었다. Meander Line은 RCC, 병렬 전송선로 간격-400um, 병렬 전송선로 길이-500um, 1층 설계 시, 인덕턴스-1.60nH, 자가 공진주파수-9.21GHz 특성이 가장 우수하고, Radial Stub는 RCC, $60^{\circ}$, 1층 설계 시, 커패시턴스-0.62pF, 자가 공진주파수-9.06GHz의 특성이 나타났고, T Stub는 RCC, Stub 길이-600um, Stub 너비-150um, 1층 설계 시, 커패시턴스 -0.38pF, 자가 공진주파수-10GHz이상으로 우수한 특성을 나타냈다.

  • 3차원 패키징 System In Package (SIP)구조에서 Chip to Chip 단위 Interconnection 역할을 하는 Through Silicon Via(TSV)를 형성하기 위하여 Pulsating RF bias가 장착된 Inductively Coupled Plasma Etcher 장비를 이용하였다. 이 Pulsating 플라즈마 공정 방법은 주기적인 펄스($50{\sim}500Hz$)와 듀티($20{\sim}99%$) cycle 조절이 가능하며, 플라즈마 에칭특성에 영향을 주는 플라즈마즈마 발생 On/Off타임을 조절할 수 있다. 예를 들면, 플라즈마 발생 Off일 경우에는 이온(SFx+, O+)과 래디컬(SF*, F*, O*)의 농도 및 활성도를 급격하게 줄이는 효과를 얻을 수가 있는데, 이러한 효과는 식각 에칭시, 이온폭격의 손상을 급격하게 줄일 수 있으며, 실리콘 표면과 래디컬의 화학적 반응을 조절하여 에칭 측벽 식각 보호막 (SiOxFy : Silicon- Oxy- Fluoride)을 형성하는데 영향을 미친다. 그리고, TSV 형성에 있어서 큰 문제점으로 지적되고 있는 언더컷과 수평에칭 (Horizontal etching)을 개선하기 위한 방법으로, Black-Siphenomenon을 이번 실험에 적용하였다. 이 Black-Si phenomenon은 Bare Si샘플을 이용하여, 언더컷(Undercut) 및 수평 에칭 (Horizontal etching)이 최소화 되는 공정 조건을 간편하게 평가 할 수 있는 방법으로써, 에칭 조건 및 비율을 최적화하는 데 효율적이었다. 결과적으로, Pulsating RF bias가 장착된 Inductively Coupled Plasma Etcher 장비를 이용한 에칭실험은 펄스 주파수($50{\sim}500Hz$)와 듀티($20{\sim}99%$) cycle 조절이 가능하여, 이온(SFx+, O+)과 래디컬(SF*, F*, O*)의 농도와 활성화를 조절 하는데 효과적이었으며, Through Silicon Via (TSV)를 형성 하는데 있어서 Black-Si phenomenon 적용은 기존의 Continuous 플라즈마 식각 결과보다 향상된 에칭 조건 및 에칭 프로파일 결과를 얻는데 효과적이었다.

Phase of Overhead Flooding Damage during Maturation of Rice (벼 성숙기 침관수 피해양상)

  • The typhoon and flooding injury in rice were investigated both the region of downpour at the middle of August and the region of typhoon 'Yanni' at the late of September, 1998 in Kyongbuk provincial of Korea. More than 10% of rice stem were buried by soil inundation, the heading was delayed and the high node tiller was brought out. Yield components were deteriorated and yield was reduced. As the clay in the muddy water was attached on grains of rice, the yield was greatly reduced by reason of low grain filling ratio and polished rice ratio. The injury of muddy water was less at yellow ripening stage than at early ripening stage. On the other hand, the muddy water injury was reduced by the fungicide 'Benomyl' and 'Daconil' treatments. The degree of lodging according to varieties and ripening stages was not made a great difference, while the lodging was mainly occurred in the early transplanting time. In a week after lodging, viviparous spikes were occurred in almost all varieties, the degree of viviparity was shown highly in order of early maturing, middle maturing and late maturing varieties in the field as well as in laboratory test. The viviperous spikes were greatly occurred in the lodging toward hill space within row than row space because the more grains were touched on the ground.
