  • Motion synthesis using physics-based controllers can generate a character animation that interacts naturally with the given environment and other characters. Recently, various methods using deep neural networks have improved the quality of motions generated by physics-based controllers. In this paper, we present a control policy learned by deep reinforcement learning (DRL) that enables Luxo, the mascot character of Pixar animation studio, to run towards a random goal location while imitating a reference motion and maintaining its balance. Instead of directly training our DRL network to make Luxo reach a goal location, we use a reference motion that is generated to keep Luxo animation's jumping style. The reference motion is generated by linearly interpolating predetermined poses, which are defined with Luxo character's each joint angle. By applying our method, we could confirm a better Luxo policy compared to the one without any reference motions.

  • Recently, the storms which hit Korean Peninsula are getting bigger, and the damages from the storms are wide spreaded. Thus, and approach with disaster prebention to offshore area and/or opened island area is neccessary. The existing wave design parameter was calculated with linear regular wave models inputting deep water design wave or wind sources. so it wasn't able to deal with wind-induced waves, interactions with waves, and redistribution of wave energy simultaneously. In this study, we made numerical simulation with SWAN(Simulation Waves Nearshore) Model which can consider development of waves and winds and their interference. The result from this model shows much different with those from existing model's. so the result from this study, especially in this modeling area, could be used for harbor design and coastal disaster prevention field in the future.

  • There is a problem with the existing method of selecting the difficulty levels of Hanja characters. Some Hanja characters selected by the existing methods are different from Sino-Korean words used in real life and it is impossible to know how many times the Hanja characters are used. To solve this problem, we measure the difficulty of Hanja characters using the multiple regression analysis with the frequency as the features. Based on the elementary textbooks, FWS and FHU are counted. A questionnaire is written using the two frequencies and stroke together to answer the appropriate timing of learning the Hanja characters and use them as target variables for regression. Use stepwise regression to select the appropriate features and perform multiple linear regression. The R2 score of the model was 0.1105 and the RMSE was 0.1105.

  • A number of experiments were performed to investigate the punching shear strength of flat plate-column connections. According to the experiments, the punching shear strength varies significantly with design parameters such as the column size of the connection, reinforcement ratio, and boundary condition. However, current design methods do not properly address the effects of such design parameters. In the present study, a theoratical approach using Rankine's failure cirterion was attempted to define the failure mechanism of the punching shear According to the study, the failure mechanism can be classified into the compression-controlled and the tension-controlled, depending on the amount of bottom re-bars placed at the connection, and the punching shear strength is also significantly affected by the flexural damage of slab. Based on the finding, a new strength model of punching shear was developed, and verified by the comparisons with existing experiments and nonlinear finite element analyses. The comparisons show that the proposed strength model addressing the effects of various design parameters can predict accurately the punching shear strength, compared to the existing strength models.

  • In most of the structural members with initial cracks(or initial notches), the strength tends to decmase as the member size increases. This phenomenon is known as size effect. Among the structural materials of glass, metal or concrete, etc., concrete represents the size effect even without initial crack. According to the previous size effect law, the concrete mem¬ber of very large size can resist little stress. Actually, however, even the large size member can resist some stress if there is no initial crack made artificially, consequently showing a rather milder strength reduction compared to the severe strength reduction by tbe previously derived size effect law. In this study, the theoretical size effect law previously derived by Z.P. Bazant was discussed based on nonlinear fracture mechanics of concrete structures With dissimilar initial cracks, and the prediction models are proposed by regression analysis with the existing test data of more large size speciments for splitting tensile strength, shear strength and uniaxial compressive strength tests.

  • This study evaluates the seismic performance of post-tensioned flat plate structures with or without slab bottom reinforcement. For this purpose, 3 and 9 story frames were designed only considering gravity loads. This study conducts a nonlinear static pushover analysis. This study was an analytical model that is able to represent punching shear failure and fracture mechanism. The analytical results showed that the seismic performance of a post-tension flat plate is strongly influenced by the existence of slab bottom reinforcement through column. By placing slab bottom reinforcement in a PT flat plate frame, lateral strength and max drift capacity are significantly increased.

  • This paper proposes a flight control system for an organic flight array(OFA) which has a new configuration to consist of multi modularized ducted-fan unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). The OFA is able to apply to various missions such as indoor reconnaissance, communication relay, and radar jamming by using capability of hover flight. The OFA has a distinguished advantage due to reconfigurable structure to assemble or separate with respect to its missions or operational conditions. A dynamic modelling of the OFA is derived based on equations of motion of the single ducted-fan modules. In order to apply nonlinear control method, an affine system of attitude dynamics is derived. Moreover, the control system is composed of a back-stepping controller for attitude control and a PID controller for position control. Then the performance of the proposed controller is verified via a numerical simulation under wind disturbance.

  • The equilibrium constants of five deoxyribonucleosides (dDyd, dUrd, dGuo, dThd, dAdo) were estimated by the plate theory and the moment method under isocratic conditions of the Reversed-Phase High Performance Liquid Chromatography (RP-HPLC). The mobile phase in this system was composed of water and organic modifiers(acetonitrile and methanol) The plate theory of linear adsorption isotherm was treated on the basis of continuous flow of eluent through the plates of the column. The moment method was utilized to find the equilibrium constant from the first absolute moment of experimental data. The equilibrium constants of five deoxyribonucleosides in the two methods were very close, and also the equilibrium constants calculated by capacity factor were similar to those by both the plate theory and the moment method. The equilibrium constant was expressed as a semi-log function of the quantity of organic modifier. Excellent agreements between the calculated elusion profile by the plate theory and the experimental data were observed.

  • Camera pose and scene geometry estimation from video sequences is widely used in various areas such as image composition. Structure and motion recovery based on the auto calibration algorithm can insert synthetic 3D objects in real but un modeled scenes and create their views from the camera positions. However, most previous methods require bundle adjustment or non linear minimization process [or more precise results. This paper presents a new auto' calibration algorithm for video sequence based on two steps: the one is key frame selection, and the other removes the key frame with inaccurate camera matrix based on an absolute quadric estimation by LMedS. In the experimental results, we have demonstrated that the proposed method can achieve a precise camera pose estimation and scene geometry recovery without bundle adjustment. In addition, virtual objects have been inserted in the real images by using the camera trajectories.

  • In this paper we address the tracking method which tracks only target object in image sequence including moving object. We use a contour tracking algorithm based on intensity and motion boundaries. The motion of the moving object contour in the image is assumed to be well describable by an affine motion model with a translation, a change in scale and a rotation. The moving object contour is represented by B-spline, the position and motion of which is estimated along the image sequence. we use pattern recognition to identify target object. In order to use linear Kalman Filters we decompose the estimation process into two filters. One is estimating the affine motion parameters and the other the shape of moving object contour. In some experiments with dial plate we show that this method enables us to obtain the robust motion estimates and tracking trajectories even in case of including obstructive object.
