  • With the emergence of the new service industry due to the development of information and communication technology, cyber space risks such as personal information infringement and industrial confidentiality leakage have diversified, and the security problem has emerged as a critical issue. In this paper, we propose a behavior-based anomaly detection method that is suitable for real-time and large-volume data analysis technology. We show that the proposed detection method is superior to existing signature security countermeasures that are based on large-capacity user log data according to in-company personal information abuse and internal information leakage. As the proposed behavior-based anomaly detection method requires a technique for processing large amounts of data, a real-time search engine is used, called Elasticsearch, which is based on an inverted index. In addition, statistical based frequency analysis and preprocessing were performed for data analysis, and the DBSCAN algorithm, which is a density based clustering method, was applied to classify abnormal data with an example for easy analysis through visualization. Unlike the existing anomaly detection system, the proposed behavior-based anomaly detection technique is promising as it enables anomaly detection analysis without the need to set the threshold value separately, and was proposed from a statistical perspective.

  • In this paper, the plans for improvement of real-time security monitoring accuracy and expansion of control region were investigated through comprehensive and systematic collection and analysis of the anomalous activities that inflow and outflow in the network on a large scale in order to overcome the existing security monitoring system based on stylized detection patterns which could correspond to only very limited cyber attacks. This study established an anomaly observation system to collect, store and analyze a diverse infringement threat information flowing into the darknet network, and presented the information classification system of cyber threats, unknown anomalies and high-risk anomalous activities through the statistics based trend analysis of hacking. If this security monitoring system utilizing darknet traffic as presented in the study is applied, it was indicated that detection of all infringement threats was increased by 12.6 percent compared with conventional case and 120 kinds of new type and varietal attacks that could not be detected in the past were detected.

  • The current status of domestic monitoring centers was reviewed and the pattern-based security monitoring system and the centralized security monitoring system, both of which are the characteristics of security monitoring systems, were analyzed together with their advantages and disadvantages. In addition, as for a development plan of domestic security monitoring systems, in order to improve the problems of the existing pattern-based centralized monitoring system, Honeynet and Darknet, which are based on anomalous behavior detection, were analyzed and their application plans were described.

  • This paper proposes normal behavior profiling methods for anomaly detection in IEC 61850 based substation network. Signature based security solutions, currently used primarily, are inadequate for APT attack using zero-day vulnerabilities. Recently, some researches about anomaly detection in control network are ongoing. However, there are no published result for IEC 61850 substation network. Our proposed methods includes 3-phase preprocessing for MMS/GOOSE packets and normal behavior profiling using one-class SVM algorithm. These approaches are beneficial to detect APT attacks on IEC 61850 substation network.

  • Conventional cyber-attack detection solutions are generally based on signature-based or malicious behavior analysis so that have had difficulty in detecting unknown method-based attacks. Since the various information occurring all the time reflects the state of the system, by modeling it in a steady state and detecting an abnormal state, an unknown attack can be detected. Since a variety of system information occurs in a string form, word embedding, ie, techniques for converting strings into vectors preserving their order and semantics, can be used for modeling and detection. Novelty Detection, which is a technique for detecting a small number of abnormal data in a plurality of normal data, can be performed in order to detect an abnormal condition. This paper proposes a method to detect system anomaly by cyber attack using embedding and novelty detection.

  • The Recently, most of Internet attacks are zero-day types of the unknown attacks by Malware. Using already known Misuse Detection Technology is hard to cope with these attacks. Also, the existing information security technology reached the limits because of various attack's patterns over the Internet, as web based service became more affordable, web service exposed to the internet becomes main target of attack. This paper classifies the traffic type over the internet and suggests the Threat Management System(TMS) including the anomaly intrusion detection technologies which can detect and analyze the anomaly sign for each traffic type.

  • Recently, there are rapidly increasing cases of APT (Advanced Persistent Threat) attacks such as Verizon(2010), Nonghyup(2011), SK Communications(2011), and 3.20 Cyber Terror(2013), which cause leak of confidential information and tremendous damage to valuable assets without being noticed. Several anomaly detection technologies were studied to defend the APT attacks, mostly focusing on detection of obvious anomalies based on known malicious codes' signature. However, they are limited in detecting APT attacks and suffering from high false-negative detection accuracy because APT attacks consistently use zero-day vulnerabilities and have long latent period. Detecting APT attacks requires long-term analysis of data from a diverse set of sources collected over the long time, real-time analysis of the ingested data, and correlation analysis of individual attacks. However, traditional security systems lack sophisticated analytic capabilities, compute power, and agility. In this paper, we propose a Fast Data based real-time abnormal behavior detection system to overcome the traditional systems' real-time processing and analysis limitation.

  • As the online game market grows, illegal activities such as cheating play using game bots or game hack programs, running private servers, hacking game companies' system and network, and account theft are also increasing. There are various security measures for online games to prevent illegal activities. However, the current security measures are not enough to prevent all highly evolving game attacks and frauds. Some security measure can do harm game players usability, game companies need to develop usable security measure that is well fit to game genre and contents design. In this study, we surveyed the recent trend of various security measure applied in online games. This research also classified illegal activities and their related countermeasure for detection and prevention.
