Influence of fuel injection pattern on combustion and emissions characteristics of diesel engine by using emulsified fuel applied with EGR system (에멀젼연료와 EGR의 동시적용 디젤엔진에 있어서 연료 분사 패턴이 연소와 배기가스에 미치는 영향)

  • The use of emulsified fuel and EGR (Exhaust gas recirculation) system are effective methods to reduce NOx emission from diesel engines. In general, it is considered that EGR method influences diesel engine combustion in three different ways: thermal, chemical and dilution effect. Among others, the thermal effect is related to the increase of specific heat capacity due to the presence of $CO_2$ and $H_2O$ in inlet air. Meanwhile, emulsified fuel method of utilizing latent heat of vaporization and miro-explosion has been recognized as an effective technique for reducing diesel engine emissions. In this paper, an author studied on combustion and emission characteristics by using emulsified fuel (EF, Light oil : 80% + Water : 20%) and EGR (30% EGR ratio) system. And the effect of fuel injection pattern control was investigated.

An Analysis on the Effect of Environmental Improvement on Replacing CNG Bus in Seoul with Electric Bus (서울의 CNG버스를 전기버스로 대체했을 때 환경 개선 효과 분석)

  • In particular, vehicles with internal combustion engines of public transportation such as diesel and CNG buses are in urgent need of measures to reduce emissions as they have a long daily total mileage, long driving hours and a large number of vehicles. In this paper, the fuel consumption rate (km/kWh) was actually measured through road test of electric buses. Based on the measured values, CO2 emissions from internal combustion engines and electric buses were calculated per bus. In addition to environmental improvement effects such as the expected reduction of carbon dioxide compared to CNG buses when replacing city buses with electric buses, additional effects were analyzed when the replacement of CNG buses is expanded to electric buses.

  • 본 연구에서는 수질관리 및 기후변화(온실가스 저감) 등에 부응할 수 있는 SRI 벼재배 방법을 국내 논에 적용하여 농업비점오염원과 온실가스 저감효과를 측정하고 비교하여 SRI의 환경개선효과를 평가하고자 하였다. 시험포는 대조구인 상시담수처리구(관행, 재식거리 $30{\times}15cm$)와 SRI 물관리 처리구로 조성하였다. 각 시험포에는 관개배수시설 및 관개량을 측정할 수 있는 수도계량기, 유출량 측정을 위한 플륨 및 수위계 그리고 온실가스(메탄 및 이산화질소)를 측정하기 위한 아크릴재질의 Chamber를 설치하였다. 관행 및 SRI 시험포에 이앙할 모의 재배품종으로 오대벼를 공시하고 모든 시험포의 경우 1주당 3-5본씩 기계이앙을 실시하였으며, 물관리를 제외한 시비와 제초 등의 영농관리는 동일하게 수행하였다. 메탄($CH_4$)과 아산화질소($N_2O$)는 주 2회, 오전 9시 12시에 60 mL 주사기로 주기적으로 시료를 채취하여 GC로 분석하였다. 그리고 관개기간동안 관개량, 강우량 그리고 강우 유출량을 측정하고 수질시료를 채취하여 오염부하를 산정하였다. SRI 시험포의 SS, $COD_{Cr}$, $COD_{Mn}$, BOD, TN, TP의 총 오염부하량은 각각 583 kg/ha, 210.8 kg/ha, 70.1 kg/ha, 30.7 kg/ha, 56.1 kg/ha, 3.55 kg/ha로서 관행 시험포의 오염부하량에 비해 27.1~46.0%의 오염물질 저감 효과를 보였다. 그리고 각 시험포별 온실가스 메탄과 아산화질소의 총 배출량을 지구온난화잠재력(GWP)으로 환산하여 이산화탄소($CO_2$) 기준으로 산정한 결과, 관행은 14.2 톤/ha 그리고 SRI 물관리 처리구 4.0 톤/ha로 관행 대비 SRI 처리구에서 71.8%의 온실가스 감축효과를 나타내었다. 따라서 SRI 벼재배기술은 논 비점오염부하 및 온실가스 저감을 위한 효과적인 최적영농관리방법인 것으로 판단된다.

  • Recently, Autonomous Vehicle(AV) has been expected to solve various transportation problems. s the problem of environmental pollution become serious, research to reduce pollution is needed. However, empirical research on AV related pollution is insufficient. Based on this background, this study analyzed network performance changes and CO2 emissions introduc AVs and Electric Vehicles(EV) in eight intersections. The results show that when AVs with internal combustion engines were, the effect of carbon reduction over the network was insignificant. On the other hand, it was that the total amount of CO2 generated in the network decreased significantly when EVs and autonomous electric vehicles were emissions in the transportation sector.

  • In order to reduce the anthropogenic emission of greenhouse gases, CCS technology has emerged as the most promising and practical solution. Among CCS technology, post-combustion $CO_2$ capture is known as the most mature and effective process to remove $CO_2$ from power plant, but its energy consumption for chemical solvent regeneration still remains as an obstacle for commercialization. In this study, a process alternative integrating $CO_2$ capture with compression process is proposed which not only reduces the amount of thermal energy required for solvent regeneration but also produces $CO_2$ at an elevated pressure.

The Effect of Soil Characters on Removal of Odorous Gases during Carcasses Degradation with Efficient Microorganisms (토질 특성에 따른 가축사체 매몰지의 악취 저감 연구)

  • The usage of efficient microorganism (EM) is increasing in concern for server purposes including odor removal during carcasses degradation. In this study, we have studied the type of soil and its effect on efficient microorganisms for the removal of odorous gases during buried carcasses degradation in lab-scale reactor. The carcasses are buried in the reactor with various soil types such as normal soil, 20% sandy and 20% clay soil with the efficient microorganism KEM. The efficient microorganisms KEM have the ability to stabilize the degradation of carcasses of the burial site. We have focused on the analysis of odorous gases such tri-methylamine (TMA), hydrogen sulfide ($H_2S$), methyl mercaptan (MM), dimethyl sulfide (DMS), dimethyl disulfide (DMDS), carbon dioxide ($CO_2$), and methane ($CH_4$) along with the changes of microbial community changed during complete degradation of buried carcasses for a year. The results suggested that the 20% sandy soil contain lesser level of $H_2S$ and MM (0.09 and 0.35 mg) but 20% clay has higher nitrogen compound removing effect and leave only less amount of ammonia and TMA (0.31 and 2.06 mg). The 20% sandy soil also has the ability to breakdown the carcasses more quality compared with other types of soil. Based on the data obtained in this study suggesting that, the use of 20% sandy soil can effectively control sulfur compounds whereas 20% clay soil controls nitrogen compounds in the buried soil. Depending on the type of the soil, the dominant of microbial communities and the distribution was change.

The Selection of Spoil-Bank for Reduction of Carbon Emission based on GIS Analysis (탄소배출량 저감을 위한 GIS분석기반의 사토장 선정)

  • The exhaustion of fuel and tremendous greenhouse gas emissions are caused by the sharp increase in the use of fossil fuel. Especially, accounting for over 25% of carbon dioxide emissions, Construction is main environmental problem. So, in this study, we applied network analysis in the selection of spoil-bank to reinforce the GIS to decrease carbon dioxide emissions in construction sites. As a result, we could calculate the expected carbon dioxide emission and transportation cost of the proposed sites by the shortest distance and the least amount of time. We found that if spoil-bank is chosen based on the result, carbon dioxide emissions will be decreased as much as we plant a pine tree. We can also decrease largely by considering and applying complex causes which affect carbon dioxide emissions in construction.

Assessment of GHG Emission Reduction Potential in Extension of Nuclear and Renewable Energy Electricity Generation (원자력과 신재생에너지 발전설비 확대에 따른 온실가스 저감 잠재량에 관한 연구)

  • South Korea, ranks 10th largest emitter of carbon dioxide in the world, will probably be under the obligation to reduce GHG emission from 2013. It is very important to reduce the electrical energy consumption since 30% of GHG emission in South Korea is made during electricity generation. In this study, based on "the 1st national energy master plan", the GHG emission reduction potential and the feasibility of the scenario in the electricity generation have been analyzed using LEAP(Long-range Energy Alternative Planning system). The scenario of the mater plan contains the 41% expansion of nuclear power plant facilities and the 11% diffusion of renewable energy until 2030. In result, total $CO_2$ emission reduction rate is 28.8% in 2030. Also $CO_2$ emission of unit electricity generation of bituminous coal power plant is $0.85kgCO_2/kWh$ and its LNG power plant is $0.51kgCO_2/kWh$ in BAU scenario. Therefore when existing facilities is exchanged for nuclear or renewable energy power plant, substitute of bituminous power plant is more effective than LNG power.

Economic Evaluations for the Carbon Dioxide-involved Production of High-value Chemicals (이산화탄소를 활용한 고부가화합물 제조기술의 경제성 평가연구)

  • Economic evaluation of the manufacturing technology of high-value chemicals through the carbonation reaction of carbon dioxide contained in the flue gas was performed, and analysis of the IRR (Internal Rate of Return) and whole profit along the production plan of the final product was conducted. Through a carbonation reaction with sodium hydroxide that is generated from electrolysis and by using carbon dioxide in the combustion gas that is generated in the power plant, it is possible to get a high value products such as sodium bicarbonate compound and also to reduce the carbon dioxide emission simultaneously. The IRR (Internal Rate of Return) and NPV (Net Present Value) methods were used for the economic evaluation of the process which could handle carbon dioxide of 100 tons per day in the period of the 20 years of plant operation. The results of economic evaluation showed that the IRR of baseline case of technology was 67.2% and the profit that obtained during the whole operation period (20 years) was 346,922 million won based on NPV value. When considering ETS due to the emissions trading enforcement that will be activated in 2015, the NPV was improved to a 6,000 million won. Based on this results, it could be concluded that this $CO_2$ carbonation technology is an cost-effective technology option for the reduction of greenhouse gas.

  • 대체 에너지 자원 중 폐기물의 소화 가스를 이용한 바이오가스 발전은 이산화탄소에 비해 온실효과 영향력에 21배에 해당하는 메탄가스를 연료로 사용하여 환경부하를 저감시키고 에너지를 생산한다. 바이오가스에 포함된 $H_2S$는 연소 후 $SO_2$형태로 발생되는데 $SO_2$는 수분과 반응을 하게 되면 $H_2SO_4$등의 강한 산성을 띄는 물질로 생성되어 배관 및 발전기에 손상을 주고 저온부식현상을 유발하게 하며, 동물이나 인체에 노출되면 기관지 수축현상이 일어나 호흡기에 영향을 주는 질식성을 띄는 가스이다. 축산바이오가스에 포함된 $H_2S$의 함유량과 가스엔진의 연소 시 배출되는 $SO_2$ 배기가스 성분의 관련성을 검증하기 위해 60-65%의 $CH_4$와 30-35%의 $CO_2$ 성분의 바이오가스를 50kW급 발전기에서 사용하였고 연소 후 배출되는 가스 성분을 분석하였다.
