  • An active synthetic aperture sonar mounted on small UUV is generated various trajectory disturbances in the traveling path by the influence of external underwater environments. That is the phase mismatch occurs in the synthetic aperture processing of the signals reflected from seabed objects and fetches the detection performance decreases. In this paper, we compensated deteriorated images by the active SAS autofocus processing using DPC and analyzed the effects of detection performance when the periodic trajectory disturbances occur in the side direction at a constant velocity and straight movement of UUV. Through simulations, the deteriorated images according to the periodic disturbance magnitudes and period variations in the platform were compensated using difference phases processing of the overlapping displaced phase centers on the adjacent transmitted ping signals, and we conformed the improved performance characteristics of azimuth resolution and detection images at 3dB reference point.

  • Many ground subsidence accidents have happened in Korea. The accident was caused by the subsidence and leakage of the deteriorated sewage pipe. This study aims to establish the empirical data of the ground penetration radar(GPR) detection for ground subsidence. A test bed was also manufactured for the same purpose. The GPR detection variables are embedment depth and horizontal distance of embedded cast iron pipe and expanded polystyrene(EPS). From the detection results, the EPS embedded by a depth of 1.5m was difficult for detection. The EPS closely embedded to the cast iron pipe within a 0.5m distance had a very strong cast iron pipe signal. Therefore, the detection was impossible. This study developed an image processing program, called the GPR image processing program(GPRiPP), to process the GPR detection results. Its major function is the gain function, which amplifies the wiggle wave signal. Compared to the existing programs, the GPRiPP is capable of showing a similar image processing performance.

  • It is always a dream to recreate the experience of a particular place, the Panorama Virtual Reality has been interpreted as a kind of technology to create virtual environments and the ability to maneuver angle for and select the path of view in a dynamic scene. In this paper we examined an efficient method for Image registration and stitching of captured imaged. Two approaches are studied in this paper. First, dynamic programming is used to spot the ideal key points, match these points to merge adjacent images together, later image blending is used for smooth color transitions. In second approach, FAST and SURF detection are used to find distinct features in the images and nearest neighbor algorithm is used to match corresponding features, estimate homography with matched key points using RANSAC. The paper also covers the automatically choosing (recognizing, comparing) images to stitching method.

  • To get the empirical data of GPR detection and to develop the image prosessing program of GPR detection data, GPR detection were proceed by the underground pipes and cavities buried in the Chamber. In the case of non pavement and asphalt pavement, water filled cavity that was buried in 0.7m depth was able to detection. But in the case of 1.0 m and 1.3 m buring depth, water filled cavity was not able to detection. In the case of non-reinforced and reinforced concrete pavement, it was difficult to detect the cavity caused by signal interference. GPRiPP programs was developed for image processing of the GPR detection data. The major processing algorithm were background removal, stacking and gain function. With proper image processing of gain function and background removal in GPRiPP program, it was showed that similar results can be obtained with conventional image processing program.

  • This study explored the use of artificial intelligence(AI) to detect foreign bodies in chest X-ray images. Medical imaging, especially chest X-rays, plays a crucial role in diagnosing diseases such as pneumonia and lung cancer. With the increase in imaging tests, AI has become an important tool for efficient and fast diagnosis. However, images can contain foreign objects, including everyday jewelry like buttons and bra wires, which can interfere with accurate readings. In this study, we developed an AI algorithm that accurately identifies these foreign objects and processed the National Institutes of Health chest X-ray dataset based on the YOLOv8 model. The results showed high detection performance with accuracy, precision, recall, and F1-score all close to 0.91. Despite the excellent performance of AI, the study solved the problem that foreign objects in the image can distort the reading results, emphasizing the innovative role of AI in radiology and its reliability based on accuracy, which is essential for clinical implementation.

  • As CNN model is applied to various domains such as image classification and object detection, the performance of CNN model which is used to safety critical system like autonomous vehicles should be reliable. To evaluate that CNN model can sustain the performance in various environments, we developed an image data augmentation apparatus which generates images that is changed background. If an image which contains object is entered into the apparatus, it extracts an object image from the entered image and generate s composed images by synthesizing the object image with collected background images. A s a method to evaluate a CNN model, the apparatus generate s new test images from original test images, and we evaluate the CNN model by the new test image. As a case study, we generated new test images from Pascal VOC2007 and evaluated a YOLOv3 model with the new images. As a result, it was detected that mAP of new test images is almost 0.11 lower than mAP of the original test images.

  • Market analysis for a business plain is required for the success in the modern world. Most important part in this analysis is pedestrian traffic counting. A traditional way for this is counting it in person. However, it causes high labor costs and mistakes. This paper proposes an automatic algorithm to measure the pedestrian traffic count using images with webcam. The proposed algorithm is composed of two parts: pedestrian area detection and movement tracking. In pedestrian area detection, moving blobs are extracted and pedestrian areas are detected using HoG features and Adaboost algorithm. In movement tracking, multi-level matching and false positive removal are applied to track pedestrian areas and count the pedestrian traffic. Multi-level matching is composed of 3 steps: (1) the similarity calculation between HoG area, (2) the similarity calculation of the estimated position with Kalman filtering, and (3) the similarity calculation of moving blobs in the pedestrian area detection. False positive removal is to remove invalid pedestrian area. To analyze the performance of the proposed algorithm, a comparison is performed with the previous human area detection and tracking algorithm. The proposed algorithm achieves 83.6% accuracy in the pedestrian traffic counting, which is better than the previous algorithm over 11%.

  • In Deep Learning models derivative is implemented by error back-propagation which enables the model to learn the error and update parameters. It can find the global (or local) optimal points of parameters even in the complex models taking advantage of a huge improvement in computing power. However, deliberately generated data points can 'fool' models and degrade the performance such as prediction accuracy. Not only these adversarial examples reduce the performance but also these examples are not easily detectable with human's eyes. In this work, we propose the method to detect adversarial datasets with random noise addition. We exploit the fact that when random noise is added, prediction accuracy of non-adversarial dataset remains almost unchanged, but that of adversarial dataset changes. We set attack methods (FGSM, Saliency Map) and noise level (0-19 with max pixel value 255) as independent variables and difference of prediction accuracy when noise was added as dependent variable in a simulation experiment. We have succeeded in extracting the threshold that separates non-adversarial and adversarial dataset. We detected the adversarial dataset using this threshold.

  • Maritime object detection systems, which detects small maritime obstacles such as fish farm buoys and visualizes distance and direction, is equipped with a 3-axis gimbal to compensate for errors caused by hull motion, but there is a limit to distance error corrections necessitated by the vertical movement of the camera and the maritime object due to wave motions. Therefore, in this study, the distance error of maritime object detection systems caused by the movement of the water surface according to the external environment is analyzed and corrected using average filter and moving average filter. Random numbers following a Gaussian standard normal distribution were added to or subtracted from the image coordinates to reproduce the rise or fall of the buoy under irregular waves. The distance calculated according to the change of image coordinates, the predicted distance through the average filter and the moving average filter, and the actual distance measured by laser distance meter were compared. In phases 1 and 2, the error rate increased to a maximum of 98.5% due to the changes of image coordinates due to irregular waves, but the error rate decreased to 16.3% with the moving average filter. This error correction capability was better than with the average filter, but there was a limit due to failure to respond to the distance change. Therefore, it is considered that use of the moving average filter to correct the distance error of the maritime object detection system will enhance responses to the real-time distance change and greatly improve the error rate.
