  • Despite the substantial changes made in the product design field to adopt light as an essential design element, there has been little effort to define how customers respond emotionally to the light design of products. Therefore, it is necessary to analyze the emotional effect of light as a new design element. However, previous research focuses solely on deriving optimal lighting conditions to achieve particular emotional effects. Therefore, this paper investigates the customers' desired emotional effects of product's light design. We studied refrigerators that utilize light as the main design element of the product. We applied mixed methods by combining close-ended questions and open-ended question to efficiently derive the desired emotion. Participants were asked to choose the most favorable refrigerator image in each of the twelve image groups and indicate why they choose that image with the short-answer survey form. Approximately one thousand terms were collected, and those terms were classified into 29 groups using thesaurus relationships. The term groups were again classified into the four big emotion categories and labelled as "abstract quality," "light property," "space perception," and "visual comfort." Also, a model of the relationship between desired light style and light properties was proposed, since we observed the light properties related to three other categories. This study used mixed methods to identify the emotional value of a new design element. We suggest that the emotional categories derived and the proposed relationship model could be used to evaluate the product's light design.

  • Colors in design elements are visual non-verbal symbols both sensual and emotional. It is the first priority in the selection of products for the consumers, and also represents differentiated strategies and coherent integration symbols for the brand. Colors in advertising is an important tool to represent the long-term image management for the brand as well as the product image and concept of the advertise. The theme of this paper is to develop creative advertisement analyzing colors from automobile video ads. Analysis results showed that video ads with small cars under 2000cc preferred pastel colors with high saturation and brightness to emphasize on individuality rather than authority. On the other hand video ads with big and luxury cars upper 2000cc preferred dark colors with lower saturation and brightness. Small car video ads focused on product appearance showing the practical value of the car, big luxury car video ads focused on the symbolic image feeling the difference between the representation of the ads. Colors used in advertisement represents the sensitivity of the consumers. In video ads the concept of the color should be set by identifying on who the globule targets are and on what item you show by identifying the corresponding colors sensitivity to suit your advertising strategy will increase the value of the brand and products.

For this study, the data obtained from 321 respondents were analyzed by descriptive statistics, Pearson's simple correlation, ANOVA. The results from the study were as follow ; The 6 stimuli for image perception rated on 5 point Likert-type scales in the 12 features were evaluated by perceivers. By the best 3 features abstracted, shirts style concepts were decided such as, Basic style by the best 3 features of the first stimulus, and Soft style by the best 3 features of the second stimulus, and Sophisticate style by the best 3 features of the third stimulus, and Modern casual style by the best 3 features of the fourth stimulus, and Modern mannish style by the best 3 features of the fifth stimulus, and Trendy style by the best 3 features of the sixth stimulus. The modern casual style was estimated highly by respondents in Daejon. The respondents in Seoul prfered the basic style to other style. There were significant differences in evaluating between preferences of shirts style and pattern. Of the 82 respondents(26.8%) with the preference of bold london stripe, the 52 respondents estimated Modern casual style in bold london stripe. The fashion consciousness of the respondents in Seoul was estimated higher than in Daejon. But, the respondents in Daejon in the consciousness for the coordination knit cardigan and V zone was estimated higher than in Seoul. Also, the 31 respondents with the preference of Sophisticate style were the highest in fashion consciousness. The respondents estimated that the first important thing in buying dress shirts is 'Design(41.4%). and next is quality(17.8%). Results revealed that Daks ranked best brand (13.7%), and Renoma ranked best two brand (6,5%). And, the 35.5% respondents estimated that the first important information which influenced on buying dress shirts was the store display, next was internet(15.9%). Finally, I propose that the best strategy for men with low fashion consciousness is to upgrade salesmen' coordination technic and fabric knowledge, and store management with story attracting customers.

  • In order to solve the user's information overload problem, recommender systems infer users' preferences and suggest items that match them. The collaborative filtering (CF), the most successful recommendation algorithm, has been improving performance until recently and applied to various business domains. Visual information, such as book covers, could influence consumers' purchase decision making. However, CF-based recommender systems have rarely considered for visual information. In this study, we propose VizNCS, a CF-based deep learning model that uses visual information as additional information. VizNCS consists of two phases. In the first phase, we build convolutional neural networks (CNN) to extract visual features from image data. In the second phase, we supply the visual features to the NCF model that is known to easy to extend to other information among the deep learning-based recommendation systems. As the results of the performance comparison experiments, VizNCS showed higher performance than the vanilla NCF. We also conducted an additional experiment to see if the visual information affects differently depending on the product category. The result enables us to identify which categories were affected and which were not. We expect VizNCS to improve the recommender system performance and expand the recommender system's data source to visual information.

  • Companies actively engage with the public through social media to enhance sales and promote brand awareness, which was further encouraged by the pandemic. However, previous studies tend to consider companies as a group of identical features. This study focuses on the differences between B2B and B2C companies' social media content strategy in relation to user engagement. This study categorized KOSPI 100 companies that manage Facebook corporate fan pages into B2B and B2C, and then analyzed the contents they posted from January 1 to December 31, 2020. The result showed that B2C companies tended to use videos over images, prefer hashtags, and comment its product name more often compared to B2B companies. B2B companies preferred images, used more hyperlinks, and mentioned its company name more often. In B2B companies, images and length of text had positive effects on user engagement, while hyperlink and URL had negative effects. B2C companies' text length had positive effect on user engagement. This study provides practical implications to PR practitioners for establishing a social media strategy which enhances user engagement.

  • Presenting symbolic concepts consistent with the culture of the host country and international trends at international events will win the favor of the world and raise the image of the host country. The international event mascot symbolically represents the host country's unique culture, and is a good means to enhance the sense of belonging and pride of its members and to display the image of the host country in an outwardly. This study discussed the symbolic elements of the host country characteristics reflected in FIFA's World Cup event mascot. A total of 14 mascots of World Cup events were held from 1966 to 2018, and their materials can be divided into animals, plants, people and creations. The mascot was applied with the characteristic elements of regional specialties, the flag of the host country, symbolic attire, language of the hosting area, social issues and the mascot's dress, posture, props and expression characters of soccer events were used as symbolic elements. First of all, the implications of the research were that mascots were more strongly expressing the "football" signifying element, the theme of events, rather than regional characteristics. Second, the use of 'national flag' was highlighted among the elements of expressing regional characteristics. Third, 'animal' was preferred for mascot material. Fourth, mascots have become integrated with 'cultural perfumes' and play an extended role in raising social awareness. Implications derived from the classification of characteristics and symbol representation elements raised in this study will be used as a basis for the planning of international event mascots.

  • Nowadays, the increasing number of religious travelers seeking inner healing has led to the popularity of Buddhist 'temple stays', Protestant and Catholic 'retreats' as alternative vacations. However, unlike Buddhist temples, which are inculturated, Christian retreat centers follow the formula of general recreational facilities and lack an overall framework due to relying on sponsorship. This study attempts to design appropriate outdoor environments for a retreat by reflecting 'theological aesthetics' based on the process of 'Spiritual Exercises', the main method of retreat. First, as the Spiritual Exercises are often described as an 'inner pilgrimage', the images and theological aesthetics experienced in prayer themes were examined. Next, the characteristics of the spaces required for the facility were analyzed, and the composition of religious spaces was proposed. Also the landscape resources of the site were investigated, and the retreatants' behavior to derive spatial preferences was analyzed. Overall, outdoor spaces were planned to induce a shift in consciousness and broaden the spectrum of the retreatants' experience through a physical environment consistent with the mechanism of prayer. This study aimed to implement theological aesthetics by selecting a retreat center with high potential for landscape resources. As a result, it was possible to reveal the 'poetic landscape' to effectively evoke images during 'contemplative prayer', and to support religious experience. The significance of this study lied in deriving various design vocabularies for outdoor spaces of religious facilities.
