Performance Comparisons of Two Inner Coding Structures in Concatenated Codes for Wireless Multimedia / Multicast Transmission on Shipboard (해상환경에서 선박내 무선 이동 멀티캐스트/멀티미디어 전송을 위한 쇄상부호의 내부호 구조 성능비교 연구)

  • In this letter, we compare the performance of two concatenated coding structures in slow FH/SS systems for multimedia/multicast transmission on shipboard. Two outer code symbols are transmitted during a hop. The first structure consists of one inner codeword per one outer code symbol, while the second structure consists of one inner codeword per two outer code symbols. We analyze the overall block error probability in asymptotic region and show that the performance of the second scheme is superior to the first one.

  • 유무선 고속 네트워크 기술을 통합한 새로운 컴퓨팅 환경을 이동 컴퓨팅이라 한다. 이동 사용자는 고속 네트워크 상에서 다양한 종류의 서비스를 액세스할 수 있을 것이다. 고속 네트워크에서 그러한 서비스들의 품질은 다수의 QoS 매개변수로 상세될 수 있다. 이동 환경에서 가장 중요한 QoS 매개변수는 이동 사용자에게 단절 자유 서비스를 제공하는 무단절 통신의 보장이다. 서비스 단절은 활동적인 핸드오프에 의해 발생된다. 본 논문에서는 단절 자유 서비스에 대한 언어 OoS 보장을 제공하는 퍼지 무단절 통신 방법을 제안한다. 이 방법에서는 이동 호스트의 이동 방향을 예측하고, 퍼지 소속 함수를 사용해서 모든 이웃 셀이 아닌 제한된 이웃 셀에게 지연 멀티캐스트를 수행한다. 제안하는 퍼지 무단절 통신 방법을 통해 언어 QoS 보장이 가능할 뿐만 아니라 정적 네트워크 대역폭을 많이 절약할 수 있음을 보인다.

  • 멀티미디어 데이터를 이종의 수신자에게 안정적으로 전달하고자 하는 것은 인터넷에서 중요한 주제 중의 하나이다. 특히, 최근에 소개된 계층형 MDC(Layered Multiple Description Coding) 기법은 오버레이 멀티캐스트에서 이 문제를 효율적으로 해결하는데 중요한 접근방법이다. 그러나, 이 과정에서 저속 수렴(slow convergence)과 참가 실험(join experiment) 동안에의 손실과 같은 문제가 새롭게 발생하게 되었다. 본 논문에서는 비디오 스트리밍 서비스에서 위의 문제를 해결할 수 있는 효율적인 계층형 멀티캐스트 혼잡 제어 기법을 소개한다. 여기서 제시하는 기법의 가장 특징적인 점은 사용자가 수신할 계층(layer)의 수를 결정하기 위하여 패킷페어(packet-pair)방식에 기반한 수신률 조절 메커니즘을 사용하는 것이다. 결과적으로 본 논문에서는 수신자가 최적의 전송률에 빠르게 수렴하면서도 손실을 최소화할 수 있는 종단-대-종단간 혼잡 제어 기법을 제시한다.

On Improving Reliability of E-ODMRP (E-ODMRP의 신뢰성 향상에 관한 연구)

  • In this paper we propose a method which can be used to enhance the reliability of E-ODMRP (Enhanced On-Demand Multicast Routing Protocol). E-ODMRP has low overhead compared to its predecessors since it performs periodic refresh at a rate dynamically adapted to the nodes' mobility and adopts the local recovery. Upon detecting a broken route, a node performs a local search to graft to the forwarding mesh proactively. However in E-ODMRP there is no packet recovery mechanism. A receiver may lose some packets when it is detached from the multicast tree. We propose a simple packet recovery mechanism that can be incorporated into E-ODMRP for enhanced reliability. We show via simulation that our mechanism effectively enhances the reliability of E-ODMRP.

  • This paper presents a reliable multicast transmission for the advertising-supported Access Point in which a user can use a wireless network access service through receiving the advertisement. In this paper we propose a application-layer multicast protocol that controls a transmission rate of the mobile device for the reliable multicast in wireless LAN environment. Internet advertising includes all means and medias for advertising on the Internet in order to raise sales or popularity of the products or services. Since the current Internet advertising systems are passive, the target systems are exposed to unspecified persons and its exposure rates of the advertisement are changeable and unpredictable. In this paper, we propose an Internet advertising system, with which users can access the wireless Internet without charge, advertisers can provide customized advertisement according to location, time, and categories of users, and owners of network infrastructure can manage the system with a low cost.

Hierarchical Mesh-based Multicast Routing Protocol for Ad-Hoc Networks (에드 혹 네트워크를 위한 계층적인 메쉬 기반 멀티캐스트 라우팅 프로토콜)

  • We propose a mesh based multicast routing protocol referred to as HMMRP for ad-hoc networks. In HMMRP, a limited number of sources are selected as core sources, and the rest of the sources of a multicast group are connected to one of those core sources. The sources and the receivers of a multicast group are also connected through per source trees. In HMMRP, the data delivery mesh of a multicast group are composed of the nodes on these paths, and are reconfigured at regular intervals. Furthermore, each mesh member that lies on the paths between the sources and the core sources as well as be-tween the core sources and the receivers keeps checking if there is a symptom of mesh separation around itself. When a mesh member finds such symptom, it tries to patch itself to the mesh with a local flooding. As a result, the part of the data delivery mesh on those paths are kept connected with a lot higher probability than the rest of the data delivery mesh. That is, for a certain source receiver pair, it is very likely that at least there exists a data delivery path that route from the source to a core source and then to the receiver. Therefore, HMMRP may provide very high data delivery ratio without frequent entire data delivery mesh reconfiguration even when the nodal mobility is high. Simulation results show that HMMRP shows relatively little performance degradation with respect to mobility. Furthermore, the performance degradation with respect to mobility is even smaller when the size of the multicast group becomes larger.

  • The cdma2000 lxEV - DO mobile communication system provides broadcast and multicast services (BCMCS) to meet an increasing demand from multimedia data services. The servicing of video streams over a BCMCS network must, however, face a challenge from the unreliable and error-prone nature of the radio channel. The BCMCS network uses Reed-Solomon coding integrated with the MAC protocol for error recovery. We analyze this coding technique and show that it is not effective in the case of slowly moving mobiles. To improve the playback quality of an MPEG-4 FGS video stream, we propose the Hybrid error recovery scheme, which combines Reed-Solomon with ARQ, using slots which are saved by reducing the Reed-Solomon coding overhead. The target packets to be retransmitted are prioritized by a utility function to reduce the packet error rate in the application layer within a fixed retransmission budget. This is achieved by considering of the map of the error control block at each mobile node. The proposed Hybrid error recovery scheme also uses the characteristics of MPEG-4 FGS (fine granularity scalability) to improve the video quality even when conditions are adverse: slow-moving nodes and a high error rate in the physical channel.

  • Most of the existing multicast routing protocols for ad-hoc networks do not take into account the efficiency of the protocol for the cases when there are large number of sources in the multicast group, resulting in either large overhead or poor data delivery ratio when the number of sources is large. In this paper, we propose a multicast routing protocol for ad-hoc networks, which particularly considers the scalability of the protocol in terms of the number of sources in the multicast groups. The proposed protocol designates a set of sources as the core sources. Each core source is a root of each tree that reaches all the destinations of the multicast group. The union of these trees constitutes the data delivery mesh, and each of the non-core sources finds the nearest core source in order to delegate its data delivery. For the efficient operation of the proposed protocol, it is important to have an appropriate number of core sources. Having too many of the core sources incurs excessive control and data packet overhead, whereas having too little of them results in a vulnerable and overloaded data delivery mesh. The data delivery mesh is optimally reconfigured through the periodic control message flooding from the core sources, whereas the connectivity of the mesh is maintained by a persistent local mesh recovery mechanism. The simulation results show that the proposed protocol achieves an efficient multicast communication with high data delivery ratio and low communication overhead compared with the other existing multicast routing protocols when there are multiple sources in the multicast group.

  • A new multicast scheme for mobile nodes is proposed to support real-time communication in a more efficient way. In the proposed multicast scheme, the Explicit multicast (Xcast) is integrated with the Session Initiation Protocol (SIP). The proposed scheme reduces unnecessary network traffic and achieves low latency of packets in the network.

  • 오늘날 미래인터넷 기술의 하나로서 SDN이 클라우드 서비스, 모바일 서비스, 스마트 TV, 빅데이터 및 사물지능통신 등의 새로운 서비스를 제공할 수 있는 개방형 플랫폼으로 주목받고 있다. 본고에서는 이러한 SDN 망을 구축함에 있어서 제어 인터페이스, QoS, 멀티캐스트, 이동성 및 네트워크 보안 측면에서 고려해야 할 사항들을 살펴본다. 기존 네트워크의 근본적인 문제점으로 인해 발생한 복잡성 및 성능 저하 요인들이 SDN의 장점을 활용하여 해결될 수 있으며, 이에 본고에서 제시된 고려 사항들이 큰 역할을 할 것이다.
