Effects of Gender and Education on the Perception of the Exotic Fashion Image (이국적 패션 이미지 지각에 미치는 성별과 교육 효과)

  • Exoticism, by definition, is 'the charm of the unfamiliar', usually because of associations with a distant country. In the western-centric world, exoticism implies non-western or oriental style. The purpose of this study was to identify Koreans' perception of "Exoticism", and to compare the perception of exotic fashion image according to gender and education differences. Empirical study was composed of two parts focusing on gender and education effects respectively. For the first part, data were collected by self-administered questionnaires distributed to 280 respondents at 2 universities and 2 high schools during August and September 2005. The sample was consisted of 140 male and 140 female. A measurement, including 24 image adjectives to evaluate 16 fashion stimuli, was developed. Data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, correlations, t-test, and MDS. There was no difference in the perception of exotic fashion image according to gender. Both gender groups perceived exotic image as western image and non-exotic image as oriental image. Thus it could be said that Koreans perceive western-based fashion as foreign and exotic. This finding implies the relativity of "Exoticism." In the second part, the measurement and the analysis methods were the same with the first part. The respondents were consisted of 70 fashion majored female students and 70 non-fashion majored female students. There was considerable difference between fashion and non-fashion major groups in their perception of exotic fashion image. Whereas non-fashion major group perceived exotic image as western image and non-exotic image as oriental image, fashion major group perceived exotic image as both western and oriental image. This result suggested that fashion major group have western-centered conception as well as general perception character of Korean.

  • 제주특별자치도는 총면적 1,845km2로서 국토전체의 2%에 불과하나 고유한 전통문화와 이국적이며 아름다운 자연환경을 갖고 있는 우리나라의 대표적인 관광지이다. 최근에는 각종 국제행사를 유치함으로써 국내관광객 뿐만 아니라 외래 관광객도 흡입하는 국제적인 관광지로 인식되고 있다. 본 연구는 제주도에 분포하고 있는 개방형 용암동굴과 관광자원과의 연계성을 파악하고 네트워크 구조분석을 통하여 접근성과 연결성을 분석하고자 한다. 이러한 연구결과는 도로망에 따른 관광객의 이동성에 대한 관광개발계획에 시사점을 제공할 수 있다.

  • The purpose of this study is to identify the factors that constitute the memorable tourism experiences and to grasp the influence relationship between the memorable tourism experience and the tourism destination brand equity and the loyalty of the tourism destination. The scope and method of the research are derived from the survey data collected through the questionnaire survey for foreign tourists who are visiting Korea, the reliability analysis and the feasibility analysis are conducted, and the relationship between the factors is analyzed through regression analysis. An Analytical Research on Exotic Tastes Reflected in Contemporary Men's Fashion - Focused on Collections from 2001 to 2010 - (현대 남성 패션에 나타난 이국적 취향(Exotic Taste)에 관한 분석 연구 - 2001년부터 2010년까지 발표된 컬렉션 중심으로 -)

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the recent various developments of men's fashion by analyzing how exotic tastes were presented in men's modern fashion from 2001 to 2010. For this purpose, a researcher reviewed relevant studies to identify the styles of exotic tastes that were reflected in men's modern fashion specifically in Chinese, Japanese, Indian, East Asian, American, North American and South American styles. Findings of this study is summarized as follows. Main examples of men's modern fashion were found in Chinese-style apparel such as the magwae, queue, coolie hat and the Mao jacket. The Kimono and the samurai robe, both of which best represent Japanese apparel and the Japanese traditional patterns also had an influence on men's modern fashion Indian style clothing such as dhoti, veshti and lungi which cover the lower body, vajani as loose trousers, kurta of full-over tunic form and turban also had an effect as well. The men's modern fashion is also impacted by Middle Asian styles that includes the thobe, sirwaal, futah, which is sort of a skirt that is long enough to cover the calf and whose front parts overlap each other, turbans and the hempen hood which is fixed with the agal. Exotic elements such as animal skins, body painting, tattoos and head dresses found in African styles can also be found in men's modern fashion. Parts of North American style influence come from the applications of Indians' costume and head dress. The surveyed men's modern fashion of the South America style was represented by the applications of natives' costume and Andean tunic, loincloth and shawl. In all of the exotic styles found in men's modern fashion, historicity, eclecticism, aestheticism and nature-orientation are implied. They are the source of inspirations that promote changes and diversity in men's modern fashion.

  • 법무부가 작년 발표한 자료에 의하면 국내 체류 외국인(단기 장기 불법체류 포함)이 100만명을 돌파했다고 발표했다. 이는 전년도 대비 15% 늘어난 수치로 국적별로는 중국이 44만 여명 44%로 가장 많았으며, 미국이 12%, 베트남 6%, 필리핀 5%, 태국 4% 등으로 조사되었다. 단일민족이라 자부하는 나라임에도 꽤 많은 이방인들이 섞여 살고 있는 것이다. 그러다 보니 자연히 서울에는 외국인들이 집단으로 거주하는 외국인 마을도 하난 둘 생겨나게 되었다. 다국적 거리인 이태원을 비롯해, 프랑스인들이 모여 사는 서초구 반포 4동 서래마을, 일본인들이 많은 이촌1동, 몽골 우즈베키스탄 카자흐스탄 등 중앙아시인들이 많은 광희동, 무슬림 거주지인 이태원동 등이 대표적 외국인 마을이다. 서울 한편에 자리 잡은 외국인 마을의 이국적 풍경을 찾아가 보자.

Tourism Images and Tourist Gaze: An Ethnographic Study on the Ethnic Tay Tourism Villages in North Vietnam (북부 베트남 따이족 관광마을의 이미지와 관광객의 시선에 관한 연구)

  • This is an ethnographic study to explore the cultural tourism villages of the ethnic Tay people in Mai Chau district, Hoa Binh province, northern Vietnam. We can draw out the contradictions between the representations and realties by focusing on the patterns of everyday life in the villages as well as the tourists' actual gaze on the villages. This paper begins by describing the content of some of the current tourism promotional material about the villages and the ethnic Tay in order to understand the myths and images which the tourist industry identifies as worth viewing. And then, it provides descriptions on daily life in the villages and the tourists visiting the villages to discuss how tourism actually occurs in the villages. By focusing on the contradictions between the images and realities, a more actual picture of the villages can be seen. In addition, this paper tries to categorize the various types of tourists with different perspectives and motives visit the villages.
