Analysis of Boys' Body Sizes to Suggest a Sizing System for Middle and High School Uniforms (남자 중·고등학생 교복치수 설정을 위한 신체치수 분석)

  • This study analyzes the body sizes of young boys in order to categorize a sizing system for middle and high school uniforms. The study was based on the $6^{th}$ National Anthropometric Survey (Size Korea 2010) data. The sample size consisted of 2,317 boys between the ages of 13 and 18 years. Most measurement items increased significantly relative to age and there was rapid growth between the ages of 13 and 14 years. The growth for the chest and hip was more than the waist. The drop value 1 (difference between chest circumference and waist circumference) and the drop value 2 (difference between hip circumference and waist circumference) increased remarkably from the age of 13 to the age of 15. Therefore, the waist size decreased and chest and hip became wider relative to the age increase. Middle school students had a smaller chest and hip circumference than high school students in the comparative body measurement results for middle school students (13-15 years) and high school students (16-18 years) of the same height group. The somatotype of high school students showed a long trunk length, broad chest and shoulder.

  • The study analyzes the lower-trunk sizes of 7-12 year old elementary school boys and compares sizes with boys, juniors, and men for analyzing and image fit. For the study, the data of SizeKorea (2004) was analyzed. Waist, hip, and the ratio of hip-thickness to hip-width were significantly different between age groups as well as between boys, juniors, and men. In the same height group, over 145cm boys had bigger waist than juniors and smaller waists than men. Therefore, the difference of waist size and the length of leg could cause the dissatisfaction of the pant fit when tall and plump boys chose a corresponding pants size to individual height or waist. The hip-thickness of body and pants patterns were compared in the analysis of the ease of hip-thickness. Tall and plump boys will feel discomfort in the crotch area because of the insufficiency of the hip-thickness of pants. Therefore, the amount of crotch extension of individual pants should be calculated by hip size instead of using the fixed amount. The reference sizes for discriminative pants for tall and plump boys were analyzed for a better fit.

A Comparative Study on the Apparel Sizing System and Size-Specifications of Jeans - Focusing on Online Shopping Malls for Plus Size Women - (플러스 사이즈 여성을 위한 온라인쇼핑몰의 의류치수 사용실태 및 청바지 사이즈스펙에 대한 비교 연구)

  • This study collected and analyzed reference information on the size labeling method and size of clothing products in 13 online shopping malls for plus size women in their 20s and 30s, and compared the size specification information focusing on jeans. First, in the results of examining the method of clothing size designation, clothing sizes indicated by 1, 2, 3 or physique designation (M, L, XL) differed between shopping malls, and even in the same shopping mall, even if the same size notation was used. Most the clothing sizes were different depending on the type of clothing. For bottoms, it was found that one company used seven size designation methods at the same time, two shopping malls used four size designation methods, and five shopping malls used three size designation methods. In the meantime, in the results of comparing the size specifications of jeans XL (size 88, 32 inches) by product part, for waist and hip circumferences, each of the eight companies showed that the size was smaller than the body size suggested by KS adult women's wear.

  • This study is aimed at the application of the apparel size system to be applied for the Internet shopping mall in Korea. Especially this is focused on the presumption of the body measurement according to the age groups and the figure groups. In this regard, a sizing system is to be developed that could be used to approach consumers more easily and provide more fitness and accuracy in terms of size. The target study was on a group of women nineteen to forty-nine years of age. The 4th National Anthropometry Survey data were used in the examination. The results in the study are as follows ; (1) On the Internet apparel shopping malls in relation with this study, no matter what size in the ready-to-wear enterprises was selected by the consumers who once put their information in the member registration, the most appropriate sizes for them are automatically given and transferred to the order forms of chosen enterprises with aid of internal programs of the internet webpage. In addition, when consumers enter their body sizes in the units that are familiar to them, such as inches or centimeters, the units are automatically programed so that they can be converted for the sake of convenience. ; (2) To extract an estimation equation of body size through Multiple Regression Analysis, the circumferences of chest and hip could be presumed by stature, weight, and waist circumference of which most consumers were well aware. For more accurate regression equations, groupings were made in the three categories of age(19∼29/30∼39/40∼49) and in the three body types(Type N, A and H). Then, the regression equations were established for three sectors, $\circled1$ 'chest circumference not filled up', $\circled2$ 'hip circumference not filled up' and $\circled3$ 'neither filled up for chest nor for hip circumference'.   • Analysis of the Branded Unisex Sweatshirt Sizing System (브랜드 남녀 공용 스웨트셔츠 치수체계 분석)

    • In this study, the sizing systems of 40 unisex sweatshirt brands were analyzed to collect the size information needed to produce unisex clothing. Each size specification was compared with the body size distribution and percentiles of men and women aged 18 to 29. Depending on the brand, unisex sweatshirt sizes ranged from 1 to 8. Despite being unisex apparel, three brands offered only one or two sizes. Out of the brands surveyed, 50% were found to offer four or five sizes. Out of the 40 brands, 25 used letters such as "S," "M," and "L" to indicate the size designation. More than 92.5% of the brands included M and L, and the sizing system tended to focus on larger sizes such as XL and 2XL rather than smaller sizes such as XS and S. The size specifications of shoulder width, chest circumference, sleeve length, and total length were compared with the body size distribution and percentiles of men and women aged 18 to 29. The distribution of each size specification mostly appeared in a section larger than the men's body size. The size specifications of unisex sweatshirts were set close to or larger than men's sizes and hardly represented women's sizes. To increase consumer satisfaction with unisex clothing, establishing a size standard that could accurately reflect the body size distribution of men and women was found to be imperative. Such a size standard could also help each brand specify or diversify its target and differentiate itself with other brands.

    • 모바일 쇼핑의 급속한 성장으로 인해 스마트 쇼핑과 같은 쇼핑시장의 새로운 패러다임이 발생하였다. 본 연구에서는 모바일 쇼핑시장을 이루고 있는 주된 의류분야에서 오프라인과의 통합된 시스템을 개발하여 새로운 의류 IT의 출현을 도모하고, 이를 통해 고객 만족도와 서비스를 높일 수 있는 방안을 연구하였다. 오프라인 매장에 스캐너를 개발하여 오프라인 쇼핑의 활용도를 높이고 고객에게 브랜드의 새로운 차별성을 제시할 수 있는 방안을 모색하였다. 스캐너에 키넥트를 이용하여 인체 골격 구조에 따라 신체를 측정하고 신체 측정 시 발생하는 사용자 인식률 및 스캐너와의 거리에 따라 변하는 오차 범위를 연구하였다. 스캐너는 의류 매장 안에서 신체치수를 측정할 뿐 아니라 의류 RFID 태그를 이용하여 직접 입어보지 않고 가상 Fitting할 수 있는 기능을 가진다. 또한 측정된 치수를 스마트 폰과 블루투스로 연결하여 가상 아바타를 생성 할 수 있고 이는 또한 스마트폰에서 가상 Fitting이 가능하여 오프라인과 모바일 쇼핑의 통합성을 추구했다.

    A Study on Sizing System of Cycling Wear Top for Athlete depending on Upper Body Type for High School Male Cyclists (고등학교 남자 사이클 선수의 상반신 유형 분류에 따른 선수용 사이클 웨어 상의 치수체계에 관한 연구)

    • Upper body types were classified to develop the sizing system of the cycling wear top for the high school male cyclist. The research methods were performed using the anthropometric measurements of 111 high school male cyclists that included cluster analysis was performed. The research results are as follows. Type 1 (23.4%) has the longest biocromion length, is the tallest of the three types and a proper body type. Type 2 (25.2%) has the largest weight and developed muscles in the chest parts. Type 3 (51.4%) is the shortest of the three types and is a skinny body with a bending back. In order to develop a sizing system, the 12 anthropometric measurements were selected for correlation analysis. The bust circumference and stature were presented as the control dimensions of sizing system. The waist front, waist back length and biacromion length were less correlated with other items; consequently, they were independent items and were set as referable dimensions. Therefore, it was proposed as a sizing system because the 5 cm of bust and 5 cm of stature have a high coverage by body type. The total coverage rate was 81.9%.
