  • Among the power system overvoltages, switching overvoltages are analysed in this paper, using EMTP(Electro-Magenetic Transient Program ) and TNA(Transient Network Analyzer ). From this analysis, the switching overvoltages are used to determine the BSL(Basic Switching Withstand Level) and the clearance of the transmission tower. Up to now the switching overvoltages were analysed by EMTP, but in order to determine the more exact value of BSL, not only digital but also analog method is required.

  • Because the overhead transmission lines are exposed to the outdoor weather, the faults of the transmission tines are due to natural conditions, and among these faults, the outage rate by lightning is about 50%. The lightning causes the damage of power system equipments, the shut down of electricity and the electro-magnetic interference. Therefore, the pertinent insulation design is important, not only to decrease the damage of the facility itself but also to increase the reliability of electric power system. For these reasons, we have to obtain and accumulate the lightning current parameters for the basic lightning research. This paper describes the development of real time analysis system about lightning information.

  • This paper deals the HVDC system stability according to controller types. In this paper, in order to evaluate the stability, some important properties of the HVDC. such as $d{\tau}/d{\alpha}\;,\;dV/d{\alpha}$ and dP/dI stability in different control modes, are analysed. Furthermore, Maximum available power according to controller types are calculated. This paper shows a generated formulation of control sensitivity for control modes, aids in the design of the controller and the operating mode determination. Finally, a simulation is performed by Math/CAD, and a simulation results are verified.

  • This paper describes the analysis results for the protection of lightning surge at 154 kV substation. We found that the surge arrester is needed at the inlet structure. The maximum overvoltage is about 1,500 kV at the circuit breaker without the surge arrester at the inlet structure. This value can be lower than 600 kV by installing the surge arrestor at the inlet structure. In addition to the incoming surge from transmission line, the shield wire should be considered to prevent the shielding failure by the direct lightning stroke.

  • The operation of Back-To-Back HVDC system for asynchronous connection is described. It can exchange electric power up to 300 MW between separately operated two rower systems, making the interaction on each system minimum. The analysis is done under three different AC transmission lines interconnected to BTB HVDC.

  • Commutation failure can be considered as the severest abnormal operation of thyristor HVDC converter. During the failure, power conversion from DC to AC is stopped until the AC voltage get recovered. The process of thyristor converter is subscribed at normal and abnormal state, respectively. The detection and the protection for Cheju HVDC are explained by computer simulation results.

  • 154 kV 변전소에 설치 운전 중인 SC Bank 콘덴서 셀의 절연파괴 고장이 빈번하게 발생되어 전력계통의 운용 및 변전소 운전에 지장을 주는 사례가 많이 발생하였다. 따라서 이의 고장원인 진단을 통하여 대책수립을 하고자 EMTP(Electro-Magnetic Transient Program)를 이용하여 SC Bank의 정상상태시 과전압, 과전류에 의한 소손현상을 검토하고, 계통조건에 따른 공진점변화와 고조파에 따른 이상전압 및 콘덴서 셀 전압의 상승 현상을 검토 분석하고, 고조파 성분에 따른 과전압 및 과전류를 분석하여 대책을 제시한 사례연구의 결과이다.

  • The inductive interference can be happened on some of the communication line that is located near by paralleled transmission line. The causes of inductive interference are magnetic coupling, capacitive coupling and residual voltage at neutral point of transmission line. In this paper, after grounding the one side of communication line, we have measured the voltage to ground at the other side of it. And we also have measured the voltage to ground at the end of it without grounding. As a result, we proved that the cause of inductive interference is the difference of ground voltages.
