  • This study incorporate hydroacoustic sampling for bathymetry and sediment survey in Won Cheon reservoir, Suwon city, Korea. Bathymetric and sedimentation surveys were conducted using a echo sounder system and subbottom profiler in the reservoirs. Data were collected using echo sounder systems and subbottom profiler linked to a GPS, to maximize data accuracy and vessel use, and geo-referenced using a DGPS enabling the acoustic data to be used in a GIS. Echo sounder and subbottom survey data were merged within geographic information system(GIS) software to provide detailed visualization and analyses of current depths, pre-impoundment topography, distribution, thickness, and volume estimates of lacustrine sediment, and water storage capacity. These data and analyses are, necessary for development of long term management plans for these reservoirs and their watersheds.

  • The interest of sediment has been increased daily because most of domestic dam reservoir's operation time have been extended and wide basin area is the main characteristics for artificial reservoir which the speed of water flow in artificial reservoir is slower than that of natural reservoir. Therefore a lot of sediment has been significantly accumulated. In this study, the accurate topographic data were obtained using echo-sounding system. GPS survey, low-frequency sub-bottom profiler, and high-frequency echo-sounding system were used to compute the exact amount of sediment. Based on the results, DEM(Digital Elevation Model) and DSM(Digital Surface Model) were generated. The GIS system for the management of sediment was created based on topographic data on the riverbed and this system can be efficiently used for the management of sediment which caused the problems of reservoir capacity and water quality.

  • Seabed topography and marine site survey should be performed first in the design and construction of marine structures. We could successfully acquire the seafloor topography information can be obtained by bathymetric survey and side scan sonar and the sediment layer thickness and 3D bedrock depth by seismic reflection. It is necessary to apply carry out the integrated interpretation to each other in the ocean civil Eng. In this paper, we have obtained information on the sea bottom topography and water depth at the same time using interferometer technique and on the basement depth by seismic reflection. We have performed to assess the proposed method on the seafloor topographic survey with bedrock.

  • The establishment of the scheme which could be managed the national reservoir efficiently and consideration of a variable management scheme by the application of a new technique for it is very important for the improvement of national service quality and application of related techniques. In this study, sediment information which was accumulated in the reservoir for a long time and occasioned the decrease of pondage and increase of water pollution was constructed rapidly and accurately using GPS, sub bottom profiler and echo sounder. And the calculation system of sediment was efficiently designed through the applications of 2D and 3D spatial information processing techniques. As a results, the calculation system of sediment which was accomplished a various functions was developed and a basic information of management for the reservoir which was constructed quite a while ago was presented.

  • Single beam echo sounding was used to delineate bathymetry sea bottom in the area of hydrography and marine navigation. This research was aimed at measuring the thickness of floating silty clay sediment with dual frequencies echo sounding system. There occur discrepancies in penetrating depth through sea beds between high frequency(200 KHz) and low(33 KHz) frequency. RI density logging was employed to characterize the floating silty clay sediment of Guangyang bay, which was chosen to investigate the proposed site for reclamation field. The volume of floating silty clay sediment was used to design by estimating size of reclamation site. The estimation strategies developed in this study will be readily applicable to measure the Pattern of sedimentation via regular hydrographic survey in the future.
