The purpose of this study was to investigate the influenza vaccination rate and vaccination-related factors in adult diabetics in Korea using the Korean Community Health Survey (KCHS). Data on 228,261 adults aged 19 years and over were derived from the KCHS, which was conducted in 2015. Sociodemographic factors, health behavior, comorbid diseases, and subjective health status were analyzed for their relationships with influenza vaccination by the chi-squared test and multiple logistic analysis. As a result, the level of influenza vaccination rate among adult diabetics in Korea was as low as 62.4%. For those with diabetes, Influenza vaccination was related with age, gender, education level, residency, marital status, occupation, smoking, health screening, and comorbid diseases (p<0.05). In conclusion, in order to increase the influenza vaccination rate among diabetic patients, systematic education and publicity are essential to raise awareness of vaccination. At the same time, the government should support them with their policies such as free vaccination expansion.
Purpose: This study aims to investigate the association between suicidal thoughts and the co-occurrence of alcohol, tobacco, and drug use among adolescents. Methods: This study used the data of the Korea Youth Risk Behavior Web-based Survey from 2008 through 2014. The subjects of this study were 517,866 students, in total (Male 266,500, Female 251,366). Frequency analysis was conducted on the data about the subjects' general characteristics and their experience of smoking, drinking, and drug use. The relationship between suicidal thoughts and the co-occurrence of alcohol, tobacco, and drug use was analyzed through ${\chi}^2-test$ and logistic regression. The analyses were done using SAS 9.4. Results: According to the study, adolescents who used alcohol, cigarettes, and drugs at the same time engaged in suicidal ideation 3.69 times more than their peers who didn't use such substances (95% CI: 3.40~4.00, p<.001). Also, adolescents who used only tobacco, only alcohol, and only drugs engaged in suicidal ideation 1.49 times (95% CI: 1.43~1.56, p<.001), 1.28 times (95% CI: 1.26~1.31, p<.001) and 2.34 times (95% CI: 2.04~2.69, p<.001) more than the students who didn't use any substances, respectively. Conclusion: Adolescents' suicidal ideation and the co-occurrence of alcohol, tobacco, and drug use had a statistically significant relationship.
This study is about the drunken drivers' accident patterns and behavior and aims at providing basic data for developing measures to secure safety against accidents by drunken drivers and programs to cultivate good drinking habits. For this purpose, this study conducted a questionnaire of 800 persons over 20 years of age in the selected 20 companies with more than 30 employees in the 4 regions(Daegu, Masan, Changwon, and Jinhae) and analysed the 653 sheets except invalid ones among the returned 673 survey sheets in total(return rate 84.13%), and the researcher conducted a man-to-man interview with each subject from June 20th to July 31st 2006. The result are as the following. As the experience of causing an accident by drinking, the 79.1% of them had the experience, and in case of the subjects with excessive drinking over 4 times a year, the rate of the accident by drinking showed as high as 90.5%. As the patterns of accidents, in male subjects, violence(38.5%) and traffic accidents(37.1%) showed high, while in the female, hurts from falls and fall accidents(40.2%) were found be high. In case of the traffic accidents among the accidents by drinking, the rate of causing serious damage to the life was found to be 89.3%, so it showed that the traffic accidents caused by drinking were influencing on the life much. In conclusion, the drinking problem may be controlled by each individual's will, but without change of social environment and system around people, the problem can not be eradicated. Therefore there should be social infrastructure which can help people to actively live their life with exercises and hobbies, and in order to prevent the reoccurrence of a drink accident, and social structure in which there are education programs for drink accident causers and one can change the perception about drinking culture, should be formed.
This convergence study was conducted to compare difference of risk behaviors and injury incidence between younger(under 65 years) and elderly(over 65 years). For this analysis we used law data of nation-wide community health survey data during August to October 2010. Data of drink-driving, seat belt use, injury incidence rate, type of injury, cause of injury were used for comparison. Seat belt use(85.16% vs 78.81%) was high but drink-driving(12.99% vs 13.24%) was low in elderly. Injury incidence was high especially in falls(1.07% vs 2.22%). In conclusion, elderly do less risk behaviors, but experienced much more injuries especially falls.
The purpose of this study is to compare factors influencing the quality of life of osteoarthritis patients in urban and rural areas. The data were derived from the sixth Korea national health and nutrition examination survey in 2014 and analyzed using the IBM SPSS Statistics version 21.0 software package considering complex samples analysis. The subjects of study were 599 adults with osteoarthritis over 50 years. The results of the study show that the factors affecting the urban patients' quality of life are healthcare coverage types, knee joint pain, knee ankylosis, hip joint pain, low back pain, limited activities, and subjective health status. The rural patients' quality of life are influenced by knee joint pain, limited activities, and alcohol consumptions. Therefore, the government should create differentiating strategies and approaches, including community rehabilitation programs, to improve the quality of life of urban and rural patients with osteoarthritis.
This study aimed to examine whether needs for scaling are associated with health behaviors in a representative sample of middle-aged Korean people. We examined 5120 individuals aged 40 to 64 years who participated in the Seventh Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey. Multivariate logistic regression analysis was performed with adjustments for demographic variables and health status. This analysis revealed significant associations between needs for scaling and the following: current smoking, no visits to dental clinics, current drinking, non-oral checkups, and non-use of oral care products. As a result of a subgroup analysis, significant factors differed according to gender. As a result of this study, needs for scaling were associated with identified health behaviors and findings about health behaviors that are effective for maintaining and promoting periodontal health in middle-aged people were confirmed.

The purpose of this study was to examine how socio-demographic characteristics and delinquent behaviors affect the suicidal ideation among the Korean high school students. Using the 35,668 senior high school student cases of 2009 Korean Youth Health Risk Behavior On-line Survey data, it conducted a secondary data analysis. Frequency analysis, chi-square test and logistic regression analysis was done. Being female, living without parents, low economic status, poor academic record, technical school students, young students, poor academic record, internet addition, problem drinking, smoking cigarettes and experience of drug use significantly increased probability of their suicidal thoughts. Findings may be used for tackle the issues of suicidal thoughts among the Korean senior high school students.
There is growing evidence that substance use such as tobacco or alcohol consumption influences health disparity among adolescents. Previous research papers have shown an inconsistency in the relationship between socio-economic status (SES) and substance use in adolescents. However, little is known about socio-economic differences in unhealthy behaviors among Korean adolescents. The purpose of the present study is to explore associations between SES and substance use in Korean adolescents. The analysis was performed using data from the 2009 Korean Youth Risk Behavior Web-based Survey (YRBS), which included a nationally representative sample of middle and high school students. Drinking/heavy drinking and smoking/daily smoking behavior indices were used for dependent variables, and perceived economic status, family affluence score, parents' education were used for independent variables. Chi-square test were used to compare tobacco and alcohol consumption among 3 SES groups. Logistic regression models were used to identify statistically significant socio-economic factors after adjusting other covariates. Higher perceived economic status and higher family affluence were associated with higher rates of smoking, daily smoking, drinking, and heavy drinking, while lower level of parents' education was related to higher use of tobacco and alcohol. Socio-economic status significantly influences health behaviors in adolescents, and it may consequently affect health disparity in their adulthood. Therefore, there is a need of continuous monitoring and follow-up research of health disparity among adolescents.
Objectives: This study is designed to report the correlation between Body Mass Index(BMI), Heart Rate Variability(HRV), stess, drinking alcohol, coffee and smoking. Methods: From 1st January 2010 to 31st December 2012, We tested on 458 patients who hospitalized in Cheong Yeon Korean Medicine Hospital for reducing their weights, then we collected the statistical analysis with the result of their HRV and the special survey. Results: This experiment was studied on total 458 patients, 27 were men and 431 were women. The average of the age of men was $28.23{\pm}4.22$ and $24.31{\pm}385$ was women. There were significant differences in BMI, Low frequency(LF), High frequency(HF), stress score, frequency of drinking alcohol, smoking and drinking coffee followed by their ages. When we looked at the correlation between obesity with smoking and drinking coffee, we can see that the BMI increased, the frequency of drinking alcohol was decreased, however there were no statistic correlation in smoking and drinking coffee with BMI. Conclusions: With the result of HRV, we can suggest the BMI and stress score are correlated each other but we need further studies about passive stress relief by taking favourite food such as drinking alcohol, smoking, drinking coffee, etc.
This study was conducted to identify factors related to the problematic experiences of smartphone use among adolescents according to gender. The subjects of this study were 54,603 male and female adolescents. This study data was analyzed using SPSS 25.0 program. As a result of this study, the relevant factors for the problematic experiences of smartphone use among male students were academic performance, economic level, counselors, fast food consumption frequency, depression, suicidal ideation, suicide plan, happiness, subjective body image, stress, and smartphone usage time. Drinking and smoking were found to be significant related factors only for female students. Therefore, in order to reduce the problematic experience of smartphone use, an intervention considering the influence factors according to gender is required.
