Global Behavior Analyses of Structures with Damages Using a Modified Second Order Damage Tensor (수정된 2차손상텐서를 이용한 손상된 구조체의 거동해석)

  • The objective of this study is to develop a damage model based on damage mechanics that can be used to analyze the mechanical behavior of structures with defects and the global behavior of damaged structures. A modified second order damage tensor that can be applied to finite element analysis is used to reflect the effect of damage. The damage stress computed from the effective stress is considered as an additional loading term acting on nodes and can represent the effect of crack surface. The accuracy of the proposed algorithm is verified by comparing the analysis results with the experimental data from other studies and the analysis results based on transverse isotropic theory. The developed damage model is applied to the analyses of structures with cracks under linear elastic condition. The comparisons confirmed that the quantitative analysis of the structural behavior due to crack orientation and multiple sets of cracks is possible. Also, the damage caused by rock excavation and fault zone is analyzed. The results also showed that the developed model can effectively analyze the global behavior of damaged structures.

Evaluation of the Shear Strength Component by Circular Transverse Reinforcement in Reinforced Concrete Columns (철근콘크리트 기둥에서 원형전단철근에 의한 전단강도 산정)

  • Current design equations for shear strength of reinforced concrete columns generally overestimate the shear strength contribution by the circular transverse reinforcement. This is due to the simplification of the discrete distribution of the reinforcement to the continuous one and the imprudent application of the classical truss model to the circular section, which is different in shear-resisting mechanism from the rectangular section. This study presents a rational model for the prediction of shear strength contribution by the circular transverse reinforcement considering the starting location of a diagonal crack, the number of transverse reinforcing bars crossing the main crack and the geometrical strength component of the transverse resistance. It was found that, for lower amount transverse reinforcement, the crack starting point and the number of crack crossing bars greatly influence the shear-resisting capacity. Proposed model leads to a reliable design equation which is derived using a linear regression method and is in good agreement with the lower bound of exact strength curve.

Vibration Characterization of Cross-ply Laminates Beam with Fatigue Damage (피로 손상을 입은 직교 복합재료 적충보의 진동 특성)

  • A new non-destructive fatigue prediction model of the composite laminates is developed. The natural frequencies of fatigue-damaged laminates under extensional loading are related to the fatigue life of the laminates by establishing the equivalent flexural stiffness reduction as a function of the elastic properties of sublaminates. The flexural stiffness is derived by relating the 90-ply elastic modulus reduction, and using the laminate plate theory to the degraded elastic modulus and the intact elastic modulus of other laminates. The natural frequency reduction model, in which the dominant fatigue mode can be identified from the sensitivity scale factors of sublaminate elastic properties, provides natural frequency vs. fatigue cycle curves for the composite laminates. Vibration tests were also conducted on $[{90}_2/0_2]_s$ carbon/epoxy laminates to verify the natural frequency reduction model. Correlations between the predictions of the model and experimental results are good.

  • The model experiments, which employ a charge hole and guide hole, are simulated to examine the effect of the guide hole on the crack propagation control in blasting. Crack patterns resulted from the analysis models, which consider the distance between the charge hole and guide hole, were compared. From the simulation analysis for the model experiments, it was revealed that all the guide holes used in this study were effective for controlling the crack propagation in blasting.

  • 철근콘크리트 부재가 하중을 받을 때, 응력교란구역에서의 힘의 흐름은 스트럿-타이 모델을 이용하여 효과적으로 표현할 수 있다. 그러나 스트럿-타이 모델을 이용하여 철근콘크리트 부재의 해석과 설계를 하기 위해서는 큰크리트 압축스트럿이 가지는 유효강도를 정확히 산정하여야 한다. 본 연구는 철근콘크리트 부재에 휨과 전단력이 동시에 작용할 때 발생하는 대각선 균열이 콘크리트 압축스트럿에 미치는 영향에 대해 설명하고 있다. 대각선 균열의 발생 메커니즘과 이로 인한 콘크리트 압축스트럿의 강도 저하를 이론적으로 설명하였으며, 그 결과를 철근콘크리트 보의 강도 산정에 적용하였다. 최종적으로 철근콘크리트 보의 강도 예측값을 기존 연구자들의 실험결과와 비교하여 제안된 이론의 합리성을 검증하였다.

Realistic Prediction of Post-Cracking Behaviour in Synthetic Fiber Reinforced Concrete Beams (합성섬유보강 콘크리트 보의 균열 후 거동 예측)

  • Fibers play a role to increase the tensile strength and cracking resistance of concrete structures. The post cracking behavior must be clarified to predict cracking resistance of fiber reinforced concrete. The purpose of this study is to develop a realistic analysis method for the post cracking behavior of synthetic fiber reinforced concrete members. For this purpose, the cracked section is assumed to behave as a rigid body and the pullout behavior of single fiber is employed. A probabilistic approach is used to calculate effective number of fibers across crack faces. The existing theory is compared with test data and shows good agreement. The proposed theory can be efficiently used to describe the load-deflection behavior, moment-curvature relation, load-crack width relation of synthetic fiber reinforced concrete beams.

A Study on Effects of Axial Gas Flow in the Gap and Fuel Cracking on Fission Gas Release under Power Ramping (출력 감발 조건하에서 핵분열 기체 생성물의 방출에 대한 축방향 기체 유동과 핵연료 파손의 영향에 관한 연구)

  • The fission gas release model used In the SPEAR-BETA fuel performance code was modified by use of effective thermal conductivity for cracked fuel and by laking Into account axial fission-gas mixing between the fuel-clad gap and the plenum. With use of this modified model the fission gas release was analyzed under various power ramping conditions of P$_{max}$ and $\Delta$.fP. Effective fuel thermal conductivity that accounts for the effect of fuel tracking was used in calculation of the fuel temperature distribution and the Internal gas pressure under power ramping conditions. Mixing and dilution effects due to axial gas flow were also considered in computing the width and the thermal conductivity of the gap. The effect of axial gas flow w3s solved by the Crank-Nicholson method. The finite difference method was used to save running time in the calculation. The present modified fission-gas release model was validated by comparing its predicted results with experimental data from various lamping tests In the literature and calculated results with use of the models used In the SPEAR-BETA and FEMAXI-IV codes. Results obtained with use of the present modified model showed better agreement with experimental data reported in the literature than those results with use of the latter codes. The fuel centerline temperature calculated with introduction of effective thermal conductivity for centerline temperature calculated with Introduction of effective thermal conductivity for cracked fuel was 200 higher fission gas release predicted with use of the modified model was nearly 6% larger on the average than that calculated by use of the unmodified model used in the SPEAR-BETA code.e SPEAR-BETA code.e.

Fatigue Crack Propagation and Fatigue Life Evaluation of High-Performance Steel using Modified Forman Model (수정 Forman 모델을 이용한 고성능 강재의 피로균열전파와 피로수명평가)

  • Fatigue crack propagation behavior and the fatigue life in-high performance steel were investigated by means of fatigue crack propagation tests under constant loading conditions of 'R=0.1 and f=0.1 Hz', 'R=0.3 and f=0.3 Hz', and 'R=0.5 and f=0.5 Hz' for the load ratio and frequency, respectively. A modified Forman model was developed to describe the fatigue crack propagation behavior for the conditions. The modified Forman model is applicable to all fatigue crack propagation regions I, II, and III by implementing the threshold stress intensity factor range and the effective stress intensity factor range caused by crack closure. The results show that predicted fatigue lives of Forman and modified Forman models were 8,814 and 12,292 cycles, respectively when the crack propagated approximately 5.0 mm and the load ratio and frequency were both 0.1. Comparison of the test results indicates that the modified Forman model showed much more effective fatigue crack propagation behavior in high-performance steel.

Leak-Before-Break (LBB) Assessment Method Considering Crack Nonlinearity Using Effective Elastic Modulus and Material Nonlinearity (유효탄성계수를 이용한 균열 비선형 및 재료 비선형을 고려한 파단전누설(LBB) 평가 방법)

  • With the increase in the thermal power output of recently developed nuclear power plants, the applied forces and moments are increased in some piping systems, so that the leak-before-break (LBB) application criteria would not be satisfied in those pipes. In this paper, we present a method for obtaining the additive LBB margin in the pipes by considering the nonlinearity of the crack and material properties. Finite element analysis and the moment-rotation equation of beam theory were used to calculate the nonlinearity of the crack and material properties. Moreover crack stability analysis was performed using the method proposed in this study. The LBB margin was increased effectively through consideration of the nonlinearity of the crack and material properties in the pipe.

  • Recently, the composite materials have been researched actively by many researchers because of its useful properties. Especially, an interface crack on the dissimilar material exposes the behavior of the mixed mode crack even though under only the tension stress. In the previous papers, crack energy density(CED) was shown as the crack behavior evaluation parameter which can be expressed consistently from the onset until a final fracture. In a present paper, the basic properties of CED on the interface crack are examined because the results by CED at the homogeneous material above are also expected to be held at the dissimilar material. And we proposed that the contribution of each mode of CED can be separated and be evaluated. Furthermore, the total CED and contribution of each mode are evaluated by domain integral through a finite element analysis at the elastic crack model and the basic examination are carried out.
