The seven mitochondrial DNA regions (ND2, ND5, ND4, ND4L, ND6, ND1 and 12SrRNA) of Haliotis discus hannai were examined to estimate the availability as a genetic marker for the study of population genetic. The region with the highest genetic variation was ND4 (Haplotype diversity = 1.0000, Nucleotide diversity = 0.0108). On the other hand, ND2 and ND1 regions have significantly appeared genetic divergence between clusters (divergence of 90% and 87%). Also, pairwise $F_{ST}$ between clusters within ND2 and ND1 regions showed high values; 0.4061 (P = 0.0000), 0.4805 (P = 0.0000) respectively. Therefore we can infer that it is the most efficient and accurate way to analyze the region of ND4 with the highest variation in addition to the regions of ND2 and ND1, which formed clusters with high bootstrap value, for study of population genetic structure in this species.
This study was conducted to make clustering analysis based on major physicochemical characteristics related to palatability of 394 Korean rice land-races. The items investigated were protein content, Mg content, K content, Mg/K ratio, Toyo-taste value, ADV (alkali digestion value) and amylose content. The range of the physicochemical characteristics such as amylose, protein, magnesium, potassium was from 12.4 to 28.9%, from 5.2 to 9.9%, from 12.7 to 37.7 mg and from 60.0 to 125.9 mg, respectively. In this experiment, the grain quality, properties significantly associated with the estimates of Toyo taste meter, were protein and amylose contents and hot viscosity. Also, at the expected taste as a cooking rice, using Toyo taste meter, a total 16 accessions were selected as good taste as "Ilpumbyeo". Also, IT173444, IT008530 and IT006554 were selected as remarkable sources for the cooking rice, in terms of gelatinated temperature and Toyo taste meter value.
Portions of chloroplast genes(psbD and rbcL) were amplified from Pinus thunbergii(Japanese black pine : black pine) and Pinus densiflora(Japanese red pine : red pine) by PCR and digested by a restriction enzyme, HaeIII, respectively. Two species specific cpDNA markers were identified. With the observed cpDNA markers, paternal inheritance of cpDNA in pine hybrids was verified in an artificial hybrid family between black pine(Chollanam 37) and red pine(Chungchongbuk 3). On the basis of paternal inheritance of chloroplast genome in a hybrid, 2 portions of cpDNA amplified from 115 individuals of Pinus densiflora for. erecta were screened to detect any traces of black pine specific cpDNA markers in P. densiflora for. erecta which has been postulated as an introgressive hybrid between red pine and black pine(Hyun el al., 1967). All the analyzed individuals of Pinus densiflora for. erects revealed the identical profiles of HaeIII digested psbD and rbcL genes to red pine. This result suggests that there is no introduced chloroplast genome of black pine in Pinus densiflora for. erecta and that there is no concrete evidence of treating P. densiflora for, erecta as an introgressive hybrid between red pine(♀) and black pine(♂).
Cytogenetic characteristics of three Hemibarbus species (H. labeo, H. longirostris and H. mylodon) were analyzed based on erythrocyte measurement, flow cytometric estimation of cellular DNA content, and karyological analysis. Average nuclear volumes for H. labeo, H. longirostris and H. mylodon were 22.5, 21.7 and $26.0\;{\mu}m^3$, respectively. The estimated genome sizes of those three species were not significantly different from one another, being recorded as 2.51, 2.33 and 2.35 pg/cell for H. labeo, H. longirostris and H. mylodon, respectively. Modal chromosome numbers of the three species were the same as 2n = 50. However, their karyotypes and fundamental numbers (FN) were different among species; 16M+16SM+18T/A (FN = 82) for H. labeo, 18M+16SM+16T/A (FN = 84) for H. longirostris and 18M+24SM+8T/A (FN = 92) for H. mylodon.

Rhynchocypris oxycephalus and R. steindachneri show very similar karyotypes: 2n=50(EN=90), consisting of 12 metacentics, 28 submetacentrics and 10 acrocentrics with a gradual decrease in chromosome size, but with significant differences in nuclear DNA content of 2.64 and 2.52 pg/nucleus, respectively (P<0.05). Although the erythrocyte measurement and parameters of two species were similar, R. oxycephalus erythrocyte number was lower than that of R. steindachneri. Mode in karyological evolution within the genus Rhychocypris shows an increase of nuclear DNA without apparent changes in karyotype and erhthrocyte size.
We report mitochondrial cytochrome b (cyt b) genes from greenling Hexagrammos otakii (Jordan et Starks) and spotty belly greenling, H. agrammus (Temminck et Schlegel) within Hexagrammidae, two species of aquaculture importance. Of 489 bp of the cytochrome b gene, a little variation occurred between species (96% similarity). The pairwise distance (0.0342) between greenling and spotty belly greenling in term of the Neighbor-joining method indicated that two species was close in molecular phylogenetic consideration. These findings are applicable to aquaculture, fisheries genetics and molecular phylogenetics in the genus Hexagrammos.
Reciprocal interspecific hybrids between two bitterling species Rhodeus uyekii (RU) and R. notatus (RN) were genetically identified based on the partial sequence analysis of recombination activating gene-1 (RAG-1) gene. Out of 863 bp positions analyzed, 13 nucleotide substitutions were detected between the two parental species (RU and RN genotypes). Both the induced hybrids (RU female$\times$RN male; UN genotype) and their reciprocal counterparts (RN female$\times$RU male; NU genotype) displayed the double peaks (or polymorphism) of sequence chromatograms at the 13 diagnostic positions, indicating that those hybrids were actual karyogamy derived from the two parental haploid genomes. However, it was not possible to distinguish between the reciprocal interspecific hybrids.
This study was conducted to estimate the general genetic parameters, heritabilities, and genetic and phenotypic correlations on growth-related traits by studying multiple trait animal model in two Korean abalone species, Haliotis discus hannai and H. discus discus. The data was collected from the records of 3,795 individuals produced from 54 sires and 74 dams in Haliotis discus hannai and 399 individuals produced from 7 sires and 7 dams in Haliotis discus discus. The data was evaluated by the Genetics and Breeding Research Center, National Fisheries Research & Development Institute (NFRDI). Genetic parameters were estimated for two abalone species raised in Bukjeju branch, NFRDI, from May 20 to November 1, 2004. The heritability estimates for growth traits of shell length, shell width and body weight obtained from restricted maximum likelihood (REML) were ranging from 0.73 to 0.78 in Haliotis discus hannai, and from 0.87 to 0.89 in H. discus discus. The heritabilities for shell shape and condition factor were ranging from 0.17 to 0.20 in Haliotis discus hannai, and from 0.01 to 0.45 in H. discus discus. Genetic and phenotypic correlations were over than 0.96 between shell parameters and weight in both of abalone subspecies, indicating that breeding for weight gains could successfully be achieved by selecting for shell length.

This study estimated the genetic parameters and breeding values for the growth-related traits of the 1st generation produced in 2005. The heritability of body weight, total length, body height, body shape and condition factor of 180 days old olive flounders Paralichthys olivaceus, the 1st generation of selection, was estimated as 0.564, 0.590, 0.588, 0.306 and 0.332, respectively. And reproductivity of genetic evaluation for crossing superior flounders and inferior ones was tested using the subsequent generation produced in 2006 based on the breeding values of 1st generation. In the least-squares means of body weight and total length for each group of crossing, the values of crossing group between superior flounders ($S{\times}S$) showed $145.6{\pm}1.8\;g$ and $22.4{\pm}0.1\;cm$, respectively. The values of crossing group between superior and inferior flounders ($S{\times}I$) showed $133.2{\pm}2.5\;g$ and $22.1{\pm}0.1\;cm$, respectively. The values of crossing group between inferior flounders ($I{\times}I$) showed $114.0{\pm}2.1\;g$ and $21.08{\pm}0.12\;cm$, respectively. In the results, flounders are determined as appropriate selective breeding fish with the high heritability of flounders in early ages at 180 days old, and the reproductivity of genetic evaluation was also high.
