  • This is a cross-sectional study to evaluate the relationships between physical fitness, leisure time physical activity, and serum lipid levels in middle-aged male workers. Physical fitness was measured by a step test score, and leisure time physical activity was self-reported on a questionnaire. Serum total cholesterol was negatively related to physical fitness(r=-0.27), and positively to obesity index(r=0.27). But leisure time physical activity was related to total cholesterol negatively(r=-0.20) only in subjects whose total cholesterol levels were above 170mg/dl. High density lipoprotein(HDL) cholesterol was positively related to physical fitness(r=0.15), negatively to obestiy index(r=-0.22), and positively to weekly alcohol consumption(r=0.14). Total cholesterol/HDL cholesterol ratio was related to physical fitness(r=-0.23), obesity index(r=0.32), total cigarette index (r=0.13), weekly alcohol consumption(r=-0.13), and vegetable preference(r=0.13). Physical fitness was also related to leisure time physical activity(r=0.19) and obesity index(r=-0.18). In multiple linear regression models, physical fitness(beta=-0.23) and obesity index(beta=0.18) were significantly associated with total cholesterol, obesity index(beta=-0.25) with HDLcholesterol, and obesity index(beta=0.30), physical fitness(beta=-0.16) and vegetable preference (beta=0.14) with total cholesterol/HDL cholesterol ratio. In conclusion, as physical fitness has a stronger relationship with serum lipid levels than leisure time physical activity, and the association between physical fitness and leisure time physical activity is modest, physical fitness should be added as an important variable in addition to activity in future epidemiologic studies.

  • Monascus koji have been used as a natural food colorant and preservative in Asia countries for centuries. This study was investigated to the chemical properties of Doenjang prepared with Monascus koji. Four kinds of Doenjang were fermented with Aspergillus koji only and Aspergillus koji plus 10%, 20% and 30% Monascus koji of its amount, respectively, and the changes of characteristics were investigated during fermentation. All the Monascus koji substituted Doenjang showed lower protease activities than Aspergillus koji Doenjang over all periods of fermentation. No differences of amino nitrogen and free amino acids were found after 30 days of fermentation and reducing sugars and peptides were found during over all periods of fermentation in each other. The Monascus koji gave higher a-, L- and C-values and lower h-values than Aspergillus koji. Sensory profiles of color, flavor, taste and overall quality on the final products which fermented during 60 days, indicated that there were no differences each other. From these results Monascus koji suggested as 30% substitutes for Aspergillus koji in Doenjang preparation.

  • Ships in a seaway will encounter dangerous situation, such as slamming, stranding, and capsizing. The number of capsizing is small, but the loss due to them is very large from the viewpoint of human life, property, and the environmental pollution. The number of capsizing of fishing vessels is about 62% of total number of capsizing, and the half of them is originated from the operational mistake in a seaway. So the dynamics and the capsizing phenomena are to be studied, and the guide for the safe operation of a fishing vessel in a seaway are to be specified. The hydrodynamic forces consist of radiation forces (which are due to the motion of a ship), Froude-Krylov forces (which is due to the incoming waves), and diffraction forces (which is due to the wave and ship interaction). These forces are calculated by well-known strip method. Using the calculated forces, the motion of a ship in a regular sea is obtained. In the real seaway, the waves are very irregular, therefore the statistical analysis is very helpful. In this paper, using the results of the motion in a regular seaway and the wave spectrum, the motion in a irregular seaway are obtained and analyzed.

  • Purpose: Resonance Frequency Analysis(RFA) technique can be used as an effective method in measuring the implant stability and documenting the clinical results. This technique also determines how stable the implant is before performing a prosthetic practice. Having become one the guidelines of the implant therapy whose final objective is the immediate loading, the $Osstell^{TM}$ mentor is giving a lot of information to the clinicians recently. In this communication, experiments were performed to investigate how reliable the measured ISQ values by $Osstell^{TM}$ mentor are, and to see if those are also stable even after sterilization. As five objectives: 1) How stable measured ISQ values after fixation $Smartpeg^{TM}s$ for 400 times. 2) How stable measured ISQ values after 'attach-detach'$Smartpeg^{TM}'s$ for 400 times. 3) How stable measured ISQ values after clinical sterilization methods. 4) How stable measured ISQ values after repeatedly sterilization in autoclave for 10 times. 5) What is the critical temperature which is lost the magnetism of $Smartpeg^{TM}$. Materials and Methods: Clinical sterilization methods(Autoclave sterilization, Dentistar sterilization, Ultra violet sterilization, Vacuum dry unit sterilization, Boiling water sterilization, combined $H_{2}O_{2}$ and Alcohol sterilization).$Smartpeg^{TM}s$. D3 Block bone($3{\times}9{\times}2cm$). Osstem implant(${\emptyset}4.1$-10mm).$Osstell^{TM}$ mentor. Individual experiment was used 8 number of $Smartpeg^{TM}s$ and they had measured to ISQ values of before experiment and after experiment. Results: 1. The measured ISQ values did not change after fixation $Smartpeg^{TM}s$ for 400 times. 2. There was no significant changes in the measured ISQ values of 'attach-detach $Smartpeg^{TM}s'$ for 400 times. 3. The measured ISQ values did not change after the usual clinical sterilization methods. 4. The measured ISQ values did not change after sterilization in autoclave for 10 times. 5. It was impossible to exactly measure the critical temperature which is lost the magnetism of $Smartpeg^{TM}s$. But, the results was resulted to lost its magnetism in higher temperature than $150^{\circ}C$/10 minute. Conclusion: The measured ISQ values showed insignificant differences in case of no changes in the magnetism of the $Smartpeg^{TM}s$. It seems that the $Smartpeg^{TM}s$ can be used repeatedly in every measurement if the original magnetisms of the $Smartpeg^{TM}s$ can be recognized. There seems to be no significant changes in the measured ISQ values of 'attach-detach $Smartpeg^{TM}s'$ only if the screw pitches were unimpaired. The clinical sterilization methods seems acceptable because the result was resulted to lost its magnetism in higher temperature than $150^{\circ}C$/10minute.

  • This study evaluated the effect of 3 different compatible screws on the detorque values in a multiple implant-supported superstructure and single implant abutments. An implant superstructure directly connected to 4 implants was screwed to 6 experimental dental stone casts made by acrylic resin splinted impressions, using 20 Ncm. The detorque values of screws were measured twice. Three compatible abutment screws used in this study were TorqTite screw, Gold-Tite screw, and, Titanium screw. And, using single implant abutments (GoldAdapt Engaging abutments), the detorque values of 3 different screws were measured twice on 2 implants of 5 experimental casts. According to statistical analysis of detorque values using mixed model at a .05 level of significance, no statistically significant differences among 3 different compatible screws were found in a multiple implant-supported superstructure (p>0.05). But, in single implant abutments, statistically significant differences among 3 different compatible screws were found (p=0.0175). The detorque values of TorqTite(p=0.0462) and Titanium(p=0.0348) screws were significantly higher than those of Gold-Tite screw, but no statisticantly significantlydifferences were found between TorqTite and Titanium screws(p>0.05). Therefore, various compatible screws showed significant effects on the detorque values for single implant abutment, but, showed no significant effects for a multiple implant-supported superstructure.

  • The effects of roasting condition and storage time on rancidity of rapeseed oil were studied. Rapeseed oil from rapeseed roasted under different conditions were stored in the dark at $17^{\circ}C$. Volatile compounds of rapeseed oil were analyzed with an electronic nose (E-nose) and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). The data from the E-nose were analyzed using discriminant function analysis (DFA). As roasting temperature increased from 150 to $240^{\circ}C$ over 20 min, the first discriminant function score (DF1) moved from positive to negative. DF1 decreased with storage time and changes in DF1 were higher between 0 and 2 days and between 20 and 24 days. Twenty-four compounds were identified in rapeseed oil, and hydrocarbons, furans, ketones, acids, benzene, and aldehydes were detected by GC-MS. The number of formed volatile compounds increased as storage time increased, but no increase in these compounds was detected by GC-MS.

  • A frequently used bioimpedance analytical method in Korea is the segmental multi-frequency BIA (SMF-BIA) method, but it is not directly determined at a segmented impedance. This study was to compare SMF-BIA determinations with direct segmented determinations for accuracy and appropriateness of segment parameters. This study is to compare the segment parameters, accuracy and appropriateness of the multi-frequency segmental bioimpedance analysis. To this end, 108 elderly individuals were measured. Segmented bioelectrical measurements obtained from a SMF-BIA (Inbody S10) at 50 kHz and measured with a phase sensitive single frequency device (SF-BIA, bia-101, RJL / akern systems) were compared. The significant difference (%) was demonstrated between single - and multiple frequency determinations of the right upper limb (R = 35.5 ± 6.2%, P < 0.001; Xc = 2.7 ± 7.6%, P < 0.01), left upper limb difference (R= 33. 9 ± 6.0%, P < 0.001; Xc = 2.8 ± 8.3%, P < 0.01), right lower limb difference (R = 18.6 ± 4.3%, P < 0.001; Xc = 25.8 ± 10.0%, P < 0.001), left lower limb difference (R = 18.0 ± 4.7%, P < 0.001; Xc = 31.8%). Of the results determined with the two BIA methods, the impedance measurements of the limbs and whole body showed a high correlation (RA: R = 0. 950, LA: R = 0. 949, RL: R = 0.899, LL: R = 0.88), and in the agreement test, the impedance values of the upper limbs and whole body also showed strong agreement (ICC > 0.9), but in the Xc, the correlation was weak. In conclusion, it was found that although bioimpedance devices had significantly different characteristics and inconsistent cross sectionally, there was a high population level agreement in the upper and lower extremities in determining segmental resistance value changes. But a large error was found on the trunk. Further studies were needed for reducing the error.

  • Class III malocclusion patients can be approached with many different types of treatment methods, and thus, each patient's problems must be accurately evaluated to allow selection of the best possible treatment method. Cephalometric analysis is an essential part of diagnosis and treatment planning of orthodontic patients, and it would certainly be helpful if reliable cephalometric guidelines could be set. The author divided 482 Class III malocclusion patients(253 males and 229 females) into fourgroups according to different types of treatment methods they have received to correct imbalance between upper and lower jaws: 1) orthopedic appliance (face mask & RPE), 2) camouflage treatment with fixed appliance, 3) surgical-orthodontic treatment, 4) cross-bite correction with removable plates/ functional appliance. Cephalometric values at the time of first clinical examination were compare among the four groups. Cephalometric analysis indicates the following results: 1)the amounts of antero-posterior and vertical skeletal discrepancies and dental compensation were greatest in surgery group 2) SNB, Wits, distance from Nasion Perpendicular Plane to point a facial angle, facial convexity, and APDI were greater in orthopedic appliance group than fixed appliance(camouflage) group, but there was no statistical difference 3) removable plates/ functional appliance group showed least amounts of skeletal discrepancies and dental compensation with statistical significance.
