  • Objective: The purpose of this study is to understand how the experience of studying mathematics education for young children based on picture books is affecting pre-service early childhood teachers with their attitude toward mathematics and mathematics teaching efficiency. Methods: For this, a total of 39 pre-service early childhood teachers majoring in early childhood education at S university located in G metropolitan city participated in the study. 20 of them are randomly assigned to the experimental group while the rest 19 were assigned to the control group. The experimental group participated in the classes of mathematics education for young children based on picture books for 15 weeks, while the control group attended the normal classes of mathematics education for young children for the same period of time. By using SPSS 18.0 Program for the collected data, t-test was conducted for differences in the results of attitude toward mathematics and mathematics teaching efficiency. Results: The results of this study are as follows. Firstly, the experience of studying mathematics education for young children based on picture books had a positive effects on pre-service early childhood teachers' attitude toward mathematics, improved values and interest in mathematics, and reduced anxiety about mathematics. Secondly, the experience of studying mathematics education for young children based on picture books had a positive effects on improving pre-service early childhood teachers' mathematics teaching efficiency. Also, both faith in ability and faith in results have improved significantly. Conclusion/Implications: These results imply that the experience of studying mathematics education for young children based on picture books is an effective teaching-learning method in improving pre-service early childhood teachers' attitude toward mathematics and mathematics teaching efficiency.

  • In this paper, we studied into a qualitative research to see mathematical understanding of preschool and kindergarten's teachers such as feeling attitude, parents' concern, difficulty of math teaching in kindergarten field, teacher's role, type of feed back, beauty of math, relationship of real life, and self philosophy of math education. We selected 10 teachers whose career was 7~10 years. Because this research way is qualitative, we can new aspect that teacher want to break their ignorance for math. Moreover, they would like to learn about math practicality, application, and beauty from art in professional training. Therefore we assert that fusion math lecture would support in the professional training for teacher, preschool or kindergarten's president training, and remuneration training.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the experiences of participation in the educational community through cooperative relationships between early childhood teachers and researchers in early childhood mathematics education using storytelling, and to find out the meaning of those experiences. Reputable researchers began with the formation of the educational community on March 14, 2016, and continued until July 26, 2016, and collected transcripts of discussions of educational community meetings, reflective journal data of teachers and researchers, and transcript of individual interviews by teachers. As a result of the study, first, the experience of participating in the educational community in early childhood mathematics education using storytelling shared personal mathematics experiences and mathematical situations, understood and learned mathematics content knowledge through sharing, and communicated through the educational community. Second, looking at the meaning of the experience of participating in the early childhood mathematics education educational community using storytelling, learn together through mathematical errors and learn the direction of better instruction through sharing. Grown up as a teacher who enjoys the mathematics exploration process, and promoted joint practice through cooperation in early childhood mathematics education using storytelling.

  • In this paper, we explore about Korean early childhood mathematics education history. Actually, mathematics education history is mathematics education curriculum's history. Korean education curriculum has been influenced by the US and European prominent educators: Montessori, Piaget, Bruno, and Dewey, etc. We investigate how those philosophy and thoughts were adopted in Korean early childhood mathematics education curriculums from 1st to 2015 amended curriculum. Also, we can see that NCTM's content standards and Korean Nuri curriculum are the same in the basic concepts: number and operations, space and shapes, measurement, understanding of patterns and data collection.

  • This study is a result of experiment to recognize geometric and spacial conceptions for early childhood. This researcher had built up Mandala figures which was an intermediary between consciousness and unconsciousness, and then have studied about early childhood's geometric and spatial concepts by using Mandala figures. In this paper, authors have studied fractal art activities of early childhood as a follow-up study, since the structure of fractal art is similar to Mandala. As a result, three years old young children have significant correlation in four areas(figure perception, visual discrimination, position-in space perception and visual memory), but five years old young children have significant in three areas(figure perception, position-in space perception and visual memory). For five years old group, there is some difference between boys and girls, also they had described for their art activities like real models.

  • In Nuri curriculum, Korean traditional culture has presented by 'Our country's plays and arts'. Games in the traditional play culture for children include ones such as tangram, top-spinning game, game of slap-match, sabangchigi. In this paper, we analyse concepts of mathematics in Korean childhood traditional plays. In detail, we show that number concepts, geometric space sense, measure calculation ability and problem-solving capability through 15 Korean traditional games.

  • This research is based on Jungian psychology. The founder psychoanalysist Jung introduced the notion of unconsciousness. This researcher made Mandala figures as an intermediary between consciousness and unconsciousness, and then took Mandala figures a research starting point. Until now, Mandala has been used therapy tool for emotional stability. But, this researcher tried Mandala coloring to develope cognitive and emotional abilities for early childhood. This paper is a result of experiment to recognize geometric and spacial conceptions for early childhood.
